- Choose a water environment that matches the capabilities of your dog
- Consider personal experience, your abilities and the abilities of your dog, along with the environmental conditions at your water adventure destination. Inexperienced dogs should always wear a canine life jacket such as Ruff Wear’s Big Eddy Float Coat™ or Portage Float Coat™. Dogs with limited water exposure should avoid fast moving water until they are more experienced and comfortable in the water.
- Prevent ear infections
- Dry out your dog's ears after he or she gets out of the water to prevent ear infections. If your dog is prone to ear infections, check with your vet before your next water adventure. They may be able to offer solutions to reduce the possibility of future ear infections.
