Great

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Our aged boxer is no longer with us, but his last days were made much happier because he was able to get out and run up until his last day. Champ's hind legs were giving out on him and walking was very difficult because his paws turned under and his toes scraped the ground, often bleeding. By wearing the Ruff Wear boots, his paws were protected and he was able to go walking outdoors and check his "peemail", the highlight of his day. I thought the price of the boots was high, but they were well worth it.

OUTSTANDING!!!!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My dog is 10-1/2 y/o and has Wobbler's Syndrome. Sometimes, he cannot walk without slipping all four legs and scraping the fronts of his paws. We tried these boots on tonight, and THEY ARE AMAZING! He is walking on our tile floors without the slipping, and the front of his paws are protected on the concrete. His Vet that is doing Hydrotherapy with him said that these are the best boots for dogs. Getting the correct fit on the paws are the key to their success. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE BOOTS!

love them

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My dog loves them ..runs faster and is happier with them on knowing his feet are safe from prickly/hurtful things. He as had stiches in pads several times ..these have saved the day. He's a big boy I thought would need XL ...he is L in front and M in back. Bu y two sets one size apart for front and back (a good guess) and then you have two sets in case you lose any. Tie them up tight ..they are not uncomfortable when you do (I can tell) to keep them on. How tight the velcro strap is, is almost more important than size ..but you don't want them too big to avoid 'spinning' ..front ends up on bottom and bottom on top. The pros far outweigh the cons ..I can't think of cons ..we just love them and my dog tears it up outside ..a total athlete. They don't even come off in icy snow when he's tearing it up! Love 'em

Contrary to some other comments I have found that these run true to fit. They took her a little getting used to, but now she is confitent on steep and rocky terrain. They also work very well in snow; we haven't had any issues yet with them coming off.

Great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Tried several other brands - useless. Then tried these in med size, better, but still tossed off one or two each trip - and sometimes had a blister or tender spot that he licked. Finally read the instructions, measured and now have all large size, With the boot liners - critical! HOWEVER, first round with the liners and they were too short...ended up stuffed down at the toes. So, added a 2 inch knitted cuff to the tops of the liners - Perfect! Just fold the cuffs over the tops of the boots. No problem since, and Biscuit dances about until he's sprung to run up and down our 1 mile steep, windy mining road - complete with lots of sharp rocks - n snow.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My dog has very differently sized front/rear feet. 2" rear, 2.5" front. The rear came off almost immediately and in deep brush so they are gone. The front however worked very well. My recomendation is to purchase separate sizes if you have this situation. Also keep dog on leash so you can monitor the fit/fall off for the first few times.

Design change has not suited my dog, too long. Can you please give some feed back to the reviews written, as I seem not to be the only one who has found the new design too long. Several people have asked for several length to be made available. The companies view would be nice, do you actually read and act on these comments.Great boot and would be even better with the old length and new.

I purchased the boots with the socks after reading several reviews. Both were easy to put on however the front two kept spinning around on our initial walk. Once I tightened the straps they stayed in place. As soon as my dog took off running the back two boots went flying...but once I got them back on and tightened the straps better they worked like a charm! My dog rips up her pads really bad and she was able to run really hard for over an hour with her new dog shoes just perfectly! I am looking forward to taking her up to the mountains where there is much tougher terrain with her Ruff Wear boots so she can enjoy running without ripping up her pads anymore! My advise is to make sure the straps are really securely tightened and the boots will work great! Awesome traction too. Worth every penny!

The shoes was as advertised. They were easy to put on and stayed on my dog's feet. They have been tough enough to protect my dog when she runs all day over rough terrain. I'd strongly recommend some type of sock inside the shoe. While I purchased the socks specifically designed for the shoe, they are too short & work down. Think I'll try a toddler's knee-high sock.

Please bring back the old sizing and need to look at the material on the tongue bit. A friend who I had recommended them to has had the same problem with the tongue ripping.Few issues but they are still the best design out there:-)

The design and function of the Bark'n Boots Grip Trex seemed great when I put them on my Labrador. After a day (6 hours) of hiking rocky and uneven terrain they stayed on protected his paws. However when I removed them at the end of day, both areas under the front dew claws were raw! Ruff wear should strongly recommend buying the socks to prevent this form happening.

The Grip Trex hiking/running boots are of high-quality. They are considerably easier to put on my dog than other performance outdoor dog boots I've been using. I do wish they were sold as pairs instead of 4 packs. (Local retail stores do not carry singles.) Back paws are typically one size smaller than front paws. I also wish there were other color choices, such as a heat-reflective color, similar to the outstanding Swamp Cooler.

Czar looked like Spider Man going up our mountain trail weaving and scaling large boulders all the way up never once slipping or falling off the rock. These shoes are simply amazing, I was a little hesitant to get the extra small after sizing his feet but they were the perfect size. Highly recommend the socks as well. We were scaling a path of nothing but rocks and large boulders and not once did the shoes come off as others have reported. If you like to run/hike trails with uneven ground or downright insane trek - get these!

The shoes are simply the best, they protect my dogs paws very well, so she has no more sore paws and bloody blisters.. we use it for runing on rocky terain and hiking..we have diferent sizes for back and front paws and on longer runs use socks on front feet because of the fifth finger.. Have to be carefull to put them on well so they don't turn and cause sores.. Love the shoes and Biba loves them even more than I do :)

New design a better fit. Old design didn't fit. Yet still not great. Dew claws get caught on front feet, and as well trained and accommodating as my guys are, they just don't like them, they tire quicker with them (= sore feet?), and I could go on. I'm moving on to other brands - what a waste of money. And how can the sizes be so different old to new. I get other reviewers size wise though - my labrador is in the S and XS - (so I need the length), but how do small dogs get on... Something is fundamentally wrong....

I bought these so my 15 year old could get some traction on our hardwood floors. First, I'll say that he would have a very hard time getting around without these, so they have helped. On his back paws, the boots are great! But, I have two chief complaints about the fronts: 1. the velcro straps cinch right where his dew claws are - at times they have popped out and I wonder if he ever dislocated them. 2. I've also had to limit the use of the front boots as they rub the area around his dew claw raw as they spin around his paws when he tries to get up. The boots would be better if there was some kind of grip inside. I'm sure the sizing is correct. I bought Med. for his back paws and Large for his front. The medium are no better on his front paws.

I have had a very tough time finding boots to fit my dog. I had tried the Bark n' Boots before, but my dog doesn't have flat feet (they are high and tightly knuckled) so the closure strap always fell right across my dog's 'wrist' bones in an uncomfortable way. Now the boots are are longer and work much better for my dog. It took a try or two to get the sizing right, but now that they are they are working out wonderfully. I love that I am able to buy the boots individually to accommodate my dog's smaller hind paws too. I have had no trouble at all keeping the boots on since I've had the correct size. I'm very pleased.

Old style were prefect for my dog. New design came up much bigger and longer. Changed for the size down as the company I brought them off seemed to think the extra small is the same size as the old style small, not so sure. They are still a bit longer and not sure on the width. Think I have wasted my money. Please bring back the old style or make the new design the same sizing. New style goes above the carpal pad.

Brilliant!

That was my first impression (why else would you spend that kind of money on dog boots??), then reality kicked sank in. The boots are impossible to keep on when you don't get the size correct, and when you do, they don't stay on the dog at anything faster than a trot. At a sprint, no matter how tight you cinch them up, you'll see them go flying (if you're lucky) or they'll vanish in the snow. That's right, I tried the Bark'n Boots, then I tried the Polar Trex Winter version. The fit is the same, as is the review.

The old style helped my special needs dog have a wonderful life full of adventures - she loves to run by my bike with her Grip trex boots on. Unfortunately now that the design has changed she will no longer be able to join me on my adventures once the old style boots wear out. The new ones are far too large. I just don't understand why they were changed so radically in size & length. I have had custom boots made & nothing else worked as well as the old style boots. I'm really disappointed & so will my girl be when she is left behind in the future. Please consider bringing the old style back.

Very quick to use with the sock and velcro strap, and the new sole is as tough as the Lewis boots I have used for thorns, with better grip. Our dogs have compact feet, and these boots are staying on well so far, though we only use them on the front feet.

HUGE improvement over the old style

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is the first pair of boots to actually stay on our dogs feet as they chased us downhill on our mountain bikes. The old style was too short and would fly off when they were running at any speed. The one big downside to these boots was that the strap closed directly over their dewclaws and tore them apart, something that didn't bother them at the time, but made it impossible for us to comfortably put the boots on the next day...A boot that came up slightly higher would fix this for us, as the shorter ones always flew off, thus tearing up their unprotected pads (our dogs have low dewclaws, and use them on a regular basis)

Our beautiful and loyal canine friend had a accident spring 2010. He was paralyzed from the middle to the back. Before he was very sporty dog, we did agility and made long walks (20km). By keeping him calm in his bench for 6 to 7 weeks and carrying him around 4 times a day he return walking again. The only thing is that his back feet touche the flour with his nails. This is the reason he wears ruffwear grip trex shoes on his hind legs. This summer we walked up to 3300 m high to the pass des chevres near Arolla switzerland. You understand that we are (including our dog) very very happy with that. (the only minor point is that the tibetan terrier has flatfoots and the front of the shoe is the first part that is worn down and his nails start to stick out). Still we want to thank Ruffwear for the wonderfull shoes!

I really like these boots! I'm a rock climber and spend a lot of time on hot rocks throughout the summer and my poor dog kept burning her pads. Finally I decided to try these and couldn't be happier. Sometimes one or two of them will twist around after she swims in them but besides that, they stay in place throughout long hikes, climbing and swimming. I have the liners for them but have not tried them on her... maybe that would help to keep them in place while she swims. An added bonus, she looks adorable in them :) Regardless, we love them. THANKS!

I recently bought these boots for my pup cause his front paws would get torn up from running on pavement. He is pretty big dog and I got him the Mediums without knowing how big his paws were. After they were here I measured him to be a size Large, (whoops) but they still fit and never come off. He has been getting a few spots rubbing one on the top of his left toe and another spot which is above where the boots sit so its weird to me that he is getting rubbed there. Overall they do the job though and now we can run without him leaving a trail of blood coming home.

He clumped around in them until he reached 15 1/2 years of age.

Living in Arizona, our summers are very hot, the sidewalks, sand and rocks can be scorching hot by the afternoon, the mountains have lots of sharp edged lava rock and cactus's are everywhere. Our girl tore up her paw-pads on our first hike and she was laid-up for a week. For us, these boots are a MUST HAVE. They are well made and durable, our pooch did a short "bootie dance" the first time but we immediately took her on a hike, she got used to them quickly and in less than 20 minutes she was walking/running normally with them on. We also got her the boot liners, they are helpful when dry but if she goes into water, remove the liners for the hike back, wet socks can cause blisters too. Just be sure you make them nice and snug and watch to make sure they stay on, esp when hiking in the woods or in mud. Overall, Great product!

We went on our annual camping trip to the dessert this time last year, the weather got the better of our poor pooch, not wanting to put him through the same duress again, we needed a solution and that's when we found the swamp cooler. It was a great success! he was able to be as active as he wanted to, he's a very sociable dog and makes more friends than we do, he was able to be a happy camper and run around with liberty in the heat of the day, a marked improvement from last year's trip. As one of the other customers mentioned it would be good to see a version with a more technological fabric so re-soaking is less frequent, but that's not an imposition in order to keep our dog comfortable in the heat of the dessert sun Thank you Ruffwear, our boy is very happy with his new coat :)

Disappointed

Would you recommend this product?.: No

This is my second pair of these dog boots for my golden retriever. The first set I got was of the old design which I absolutely loved because they stayed on throughout any activity, even hard running, but the boot sat right below the dew claw which was the only con (but it didn't cause my dog any discomfort or issues). I was excited to see when a re-designed boot became available that sat above the dew claw so I ordered them. Unfortunately I am very disappointed in them. The fit is different and the velcro strap actually sits right on the dew claw which puts constant pressure on it and has even caused hair loss. My dog is unable to wear these boots for longer periods of time and for running activities like he was able to in the older design (because of where the velcro strap sits). I wish the old design would become available again because they were overall a better product even though they sat below the dew. The only positive I can say about these boots is that the materials used are still of Ruff Wear top quality but that doesn't exactly matter if my dog can't actually wear them.

This is our second pair of bark'n boots the first pair was fantastic, but this pair has a very poor fit and does not stay on properly. They are much too tall/long to be secured on a dog's paw. Also, the top mesh does not provide enough ventilation and is too delicate -two shoes have holes after wearing only twice.

Not At All Satisfied

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I can see these boots being great for any dog that is as big or bigger than a collie or boxer. However, they are useless for breeds smaller than that. The problem is that although the widths of the boots are adjusted for size, there is no corresponding adjustment for length of the paw. This creates a fitting issue in that the boot securing straps end up far above the carpal pads on the front paws, making it impossible to secure the boot to the paw. I checked some of these boots at a store near me after I returned the two pairs that I bought from the website here, and sure enough, the boot length difference between the XS and the M boots was minimal. Based on Ruffwear's sizing, my staffordshire should have been an XS, but these came off her front paws within a dozen steps. I then tried the XXS boots I got for my mixed breed on my staffordshire, and these also came off the front paws very quickly. I have other Ruffwear products that perform great and that I love (i.e. Approach pack), but the design of these boots needs a lot of work for the smaller breeds, namely in the length/width ratio.

These are simply the best high performance boots for dogs! I take him on mountain bike rides for 1 to 2 hours. With out these boots his feet would be torn up from the sharp rocks. They stay on just fine and he can run harder and longer with this stuff! The only thing to remember is to keep your pups nails short!

My dog works daily in 115 degree heat with pavement temperatures reaching in excess of 130 degrees. Ruff boots have been awesome! They stay on his feet, provide excellent paw protection, and he seems to like them. I will buy another set when these wear out but they are holding up well.

Bark'n Boots Grip Trex are for people that get out and get things done. These boots come in handy in a variety of ways. Our first set was before they hooked up with Vibram. Back then the sole was like a simple grip tape kind of stuff (still awesome). And now the combined effort of Ruff Wear and Vibram really puts a nice system together. I tend to use these whenever the terrain is going to be tough. If I bring my dogs mountain biking I tend to use these so they don't hurt their feet while running like dogs to keep up. I've also used them while kayaking and they are able to stand on the kayak with traction (before they would just slip all over making them nervous). These have gotten a lot of use over the years.

Bought them because the desert at 100+ degrees has ripped off her pads before.. She loves her new boots ( once she got used to them..a lot of high stepping at first!!) glad I got them in red so if one falls off it is easier to find as long as the red lands up!! Last week were climbing a lot of mountains and her back boots kept turning completely upside down so the tops are pretty snagged and a few holes. They don't even come off in the water which is awesome. Can't say enough great things about them !! Thank you :0)

Our dog Taz was diagnosed with Paresis in July 2010. At the time our vet expected Taz to lose his ability to walk (and therefore need to be put to sleep) by Christmas 2010. The vet said that if we can exercise Taz as much as possible, we'd be able to extend the time that he had left. Not long after his diagnosis, Taz became unable to walk outdoors without damaging his rear paws due to the fact that he had begun to shuffle everywhere so after trying and rejecting several different boots, we bought a set of these boots without trying them first. We've never looked back. It's now July 2011 and since we bought these boots, we've walked Taz every day. The boots coped through the coldest winter the United Kingdom has seen in 30 years right through to this summer and I'm happy to report that Taz is still walking and he's just about worn out his set of 4 boots even though he has shuffled in them for the entire time he's walked in them. Whilst his condition is still deteriorating and we don't think we have much longer with him now, I can honestly say that I believe we would have lost Taz months ago if we hadn't been able to exercise him as we have done and we wouldn't have been able to do that without these boots. The boots have allowed us to give Taz some extra months and we have some extra memories that we wouldn't have had without them. For this reason alone, these boots are priceless. I cannot recommend them enough.

My dog has a nail disorder, so I need boots to protect his front feet. The quality of these shoes are good, but they do not fit well and come off after five minutes. I have the XS and have to constantly adjust them over and over again so a two block walk takes twenty minutes. Terribly frustrating and wish they were a better product.

My dog peggy has a blood disorder that causes her blood not to clot, and when she falls down or bumps things she gets really bad contusions. We have tile floor so it was difficult for her to get up and down without falling so she didn't move around very much. The shoes have basically saved her life. She can get traction now, we have less problems with her bruising. She gets up and plays with the others now. They have improved her quality of life. I did have a problem in the beginning with the dew claws, but I bought baby socks with grippers on bottom and no problems now. I will diffently buy more. Thank you.

Great functionality and built quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These boots are very good for protecting my Aussie’s paws when we go hiking. They do take some time to break in, so plan on using them gradually with your dog before going on a long hike. In this way you’ll prevent possible hot spots caused by rubbing when the boots are too new. BTW, my Aussie wears size M in the front and XS in the back. I would only recommend these boots for dogs that don’t have dew claws because chances are that dew claws will get in the way and cause all kinds of rubbing issues. The only issue I have is mostly with the boots in the back. My Aussie likes to tackle the trails aggressively when we go hiking, and a lot of tiny rocks and dirt will always get into his back boots. Would be nice if you offered some kind of boot cover to go over the leg and the upper part of the boot to prevent debris from getting inside the boot. Will be looking for these in the future :-).

I recently purchased the Grip Trex boots for our dog due to the hot sidewalks and pavements in Phoenix during the Spring/Summer months. They provide a durable barrier between paws and broken glass, etc. that is often found in the desert landscaping typical of this area. I have purchased other brands before and have not received the quality these boots provide. The tailored fit of the boot allows it to stay in place allowing for greater fit and comfort. I am very pleased with the product!

My dog did loose one boot the first time she wore them, but after that I learned how to tighten them just right and now they stay on. She runs through the woods and all over and has not lost another one. I bought them because she seems to be a little tender footed at times and these work great. I have had them for 3 years and she is has just now worn off the tread. I only use them on the front feet. They are perfect for mountain biking as dogs seem to wear their feet pretty good with this activity. Highly recommended!

Ongoing Improvements needed

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Love the tread, but as far as the fit of length and sizing is still far from perfect. My 3yr GSD seems to have long paws and even after waiting for the .5" longer new version smaller sizes it still seems a bit short. The boots still come off with aggressive running and is a disappointment. 2" size barely goes around his front paws only to come off, as stated above. The rear paws aren't quite small enough, but there aren't any smaller sizing to accommodate this. I'm simply dumbfounded that a 3yr old GSD would wear the smallest size boot. Good concept, but still needs reworking and hope the team at Ruff Wear continues to pursue it. My Jacko loves to runs and does these "Burn outs" in the transition from asphalt to grass;he knows I let him run all out on a long stretch of grass, but won't slow down long enough for me to get my bike there.

Great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased these boots because my great danes back paw pads rub raw and start bleeding when we walk any longer than 2 miles. I recommend the liners, they make getting the boots on ALOT easier! In the house he loses them all over the place when he runs around. He would probably loose them if he runs with them outside too. As far as just long casual walks they work great! They stay on and he no longer has bleeding pads! He has front dew claws but his feet are long enough the boots ride about half an inch under them with no rubbing! He wears XL in the front and L in back.

Bought because it was made of strong materials. I was careful to buy the correct size and tightened them as tight as I could but lost two in the woods after only 15 minutes. They would be good for dogs that are on leash by your side so you could see the boots when they fall off but not for the off leash hikers.

I bought these shoes for my dog when he is out running behind my mountain bike on single track, the pros are I dont have to worry about his pads getting cut up during the day, cons are they do come off sometimes when he is running full bore. These shoes are very good when they stay on but are a real pain when they come off, I am not sure if they are worth the money.

Very beneficial

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have an 8 year old black lab, and within the last year she began having trouble walking on our hardwood floors. It was so bad that she would get trapped in the middle of an open floor, and wouldn't be able to move because she was afraid that her legs would slip out from underneath her. I tried several solutions until I came across these boots. I ordered a pair, put them on her, and they were like magic for her. The boots actually make her a different dog, and when she is not wearing them, she goes back to her old ways. The only downside to the boots is that it doesn't take long for them to begin smelling pretty bad, but you can take care of that in the washing machine. We are on our second pair and I have just ordered another pair. They worked great for my problem and I would highly recommend if your dog has a problem with traction.

These boots rock!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I use these boots on my Shepherd mix who is partially paralyzed and knuckles her feet so these boots protect the top of her toes.I realize that this is not the intended purpose of the design but I feel that with a few minor modifications these could be perfect for all the knucklers as well.I have been using these boots for 5 years, they were the only boots that held up for more then a few hours with my dog, this is no exaggeration. You need to get the sizing right or the boot will just spin on your dogs feet and you need to pull the velcro tight, tighter then you think or else they will come off. For a normal walking dog I imagine that these boots will last for a few years for knucklers a few weeks.

LOVE THESE!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have a service dog who was trained in a cold climate. I live in a warm climate. When he was brought to me, he struggled to work on warm (not even hot) blacktop and concrete. When I put on his Bark N' Boots he loves to dance and is so happy to work on blacktop and concrete then. If he doesn't have his boots on, he won't move. So he is a die-hard fan of his boots! I did have to learn to put them on so his boots wouldn't fly off if he was walking, running, or hip-hoppity dancing. On his front paws, I do a check and allow about one finger to tuck in behind the boot. On his back paws, I have to put the boots on really tightly. I don't allow even one finger to tuck in behind his paws because that signals me that the boots will fly off in an instant. Thanks Ruffwear for making my boy happy!

well made but can't keep them on

Would you recommend this product?.: No

These might work for a leisurely stroll down the road with an overweight pet, but are not suitable for the fast 90 degree turns, slides, and sudden accelleration of a herding dog doing a job. I needed boots to move sheep down a gravel road bed that is known to tear up the feet on the border collies, and within 5 minutes had boots twisting, and flying off. The socks slipped down and bunched up in the toes. Also the 3 day Fedex delivery took 6 days. I don't recommend this product for a working dog that makes quick turns, and I don't recommend Fedex if you are in a hurry!

new sizing much better!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The new sizing works for me, the old sizing didn't! Molly is 30kg and fits XS on back and S on front. Old sizing due to length had to be M, which meant we didn't use them (waste of money) as too wide for her and tripped over. Same principal for Toby. He's 35kg and fits the new S on the back, and a Medium on the front. So new sizing is great - I just wonder what those smaller dogs are supposed to do.... Dew claws may still be an issue.

At first I thought it would be too much of a hassle to have separate sizes but it makes a big difference in their comfort.
