Overall great product

Would be great if sold in sets of 2 instead of 4 as Colby's feet are bigger in front. They allowed him to hike with us thru the Cholla and other desert plants.

Excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Once again it is Ruffwear to the rescue! Our 16 year old beauty lost feeling in her hind left paw and as a result she drags / grinds down her nails causing breaks and bleeding. We were putting infant socks on but that was cumbersome and the socks needed to be taped to stay on. The Grip Tex boot is the perfect solution and because she was used to having something on her foot it took her no time at all to get used to it. I was afraid it might be too heavy and inflexible for her but just the opposite, it is lightweight enough and does not bend (like the socks did) so she is stable while walking. Easy on, easy off, and stays in place beautifully. Another fabulous product to help our senior dogs live a comfortable life!

Very good to excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I needed something that would resist the fine cactus too small to be seen clearly by me or my dog. These boots protect her feet from hot sand/stones, and they stay on her feet if I snug them down properly. I started by putting her tracking vest on. She knew it was time to go to work so she knew better than to object much. She resisted the boots only minimally. I think the vest helped. Once outside, after some amusing dancing around, she found that she could walk on the crushed rock comfortably and then ran around the yard like it was new ground. She then went to the street and walked around like it was wintertime - not like September at 100 plus degrees. Later, I took her to the desert. She ran around like she would be expected to at the dog park. It wasn't long before she stepped on a cholla cactus and froze. She had seen these before. She stayed put while I pulled it off the tread and set her foot back down. She then started watching for more cactus, but she didn't freeze up or head to the truck as she had done on other outings. She finally managed to throw a boot. Once she felt the hot rocks, she stopped without moving while I fetched it for her. I chose red for just this reason; I can find it. She waits now while I snug up all the velcro lashings and give her an "OK". Now I have to be careful because she is willing to go more places than I am. These boots are really tough. With her 65 pounds, she can step on broken glass or hot rocks, and yet still climb over the rough stuff. I think she knows they protect her feet, but she still avoids cactus of all types. I'm hoping she doesn't take any cactus spines through the sides. I think she pays enough attention to bypass the bigger ones. So far, she will sniff cactus, but she knows better than to touch them. I continue to watch her whether on or off leash, but I feel much better having her feet protected. And a plus is that I can replace one boot at a time if necessary. Let's hope I don't need many replacements.

CUTE and FUNCTIONAL

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Dream hopped around the living room almost as if she was telling me... "Mom, what's this?? They are cute and all, but really??" LOL! After about 15 minutes around the house she was walking normally and the shoes were flexing well for her feet. So, we went for a walk. Hop Hop Princess Walk goes Dream... lol and after about 20 minutes, she was a PRO! :) The next time I put them on, Dream didn't even RESIST! So that tells me that she at the very least doesn't mind them. The third time I put them on, she was hopping around getting all excited about going for a walk - BEFORE I put them on! She stayed still for me to put them on, and was a total natural. Everyone on our walk says she looks adorable!! And... ask how'd you DO that!! My answer is always... Dream just makes it easy! Last and most important review... I am not nervous anymore about Dream burning her feet on the crazy hot California payment and sidewalks, I don't worry about her stepping on glass shards...etc. I will say this however, time will tell if she needs to grow into her size a little because the shoes don't stay forward facing when she RUNS to catch a frisbee. But, for walking, excellent!! :) Love them!! Perhaps when she grows into them a little better... she's still a puppy, she'll be able to run in them.

Excellent in all respects

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Start with Customer Service helping via email to get the exact right measurements. Their fitting video was excellent. The Construction: Soles: Durable rubber gripping soles. Were not talking that cheap plastic with markings like tread from other companies. This stuff GRIPS!. The Construction: Velco: The hook & loops used on the Velcro straps is great quality. Ruff Wear did something a step better than a simple velcro band. They added a reinforced section at the end where you grip to pull the velcro. This will aid in preventing frying with each use. The Construction: Stretchable opening. This is the one part of this boot that I feel keeps the boots in place. Once you have your dogs paw in this boot, you have a flexible tongue piece that folds together, before strapping the velcro in place. This really give a super fit. The Construction: Fabric: The fabric is breathable. Reminded me of running shoe material. You can actually put your mouth to it, and feel the air move through, but also keeps the moisture out. The Construction: Reflectors: These boots have reflectors in all the right places. The tips, the sides, and they added the reflectors in such a way to add a stylish look. The Construction: Cosmetics: Ruff wear added some flair to these boots. Little yellow Ruff war tags, and rubber markings. Not only does it look nice, but it helps the owner watch the way the dog is walking in his boots. Great for training Dog's opinion. It took our Dobe just one one around the block to get settled into the boots. We learned that these boots do not need to have the velcro pulled tight. Also, you should stop after a few minutes of walking and readjust the velcro until you learn the right tighten level. Trainers/SD Handlers: These boots we have found have aided in training. No longer do you have your dog slipping when going into stores, and on wet surfaces. Now our dog can focus on the training we want, and not get distracted trying not to slip on surfaces. Great for in the van also. Helps prevent slipping around the cabin. Summary: Quality 5 stars. You get what you pay for. If you want no nonsense. You want quality, you want the best for your dog? you can not go wrong with these boots. One last note. Ruff Wear sends you a storage bag for the boots with your order! So keeping track of them is easy, and you can close the bag, and wash the boots with ease. NOTE: DO NOT put in dryer! Great job Ruff Wear!

Love These Boots

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We bought these boots for Tank and Bella to protect their paws during the summer when we hike with them, the winter when there is a lot of salt on the sidewalks and when we are in stores. You see Tank and Bella are Service Dogs and we often take them hiking in the summer; however, where we hike there are often broken bottles as well as thorns and broken branches. We took the dogs to a local car show this weekend and although it is getting to be late summer early fall the pavement was very hot and these boots did the job keeping their paws from getting burned and keeping our dogs working while other dogs were having to be carried. When these boots wear out we will be ordering another set for the dogs. I was amazed at how much dirt and stuff the soles of these boots picked up that normally would have ended up in the dogs paws. Although a lot of people laughed at us we knew we were doing what was best for the dogs paws and their health.

Fabulous Shoes

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These are the best shoe We've found. My 15yr. old dog is still full of life but no one told her body. She has nerve damage in her spine which causes occasional partial paralysis in her hind legs and she drags them which opens up0 and causes wounds on her feet. We have tried several different shoes and none have been sturdy enough or had the RIGHT FIT for her girlie paws. These booties (with the same tread as MY hiking boots) are FABULOUS!! They protect her feet from road rash the nice thick sole raises her up a little and she's not dragging them behind her. I can't wait to get to the country where she can run around and her paws will be safe !! Great design and the detached adjustable Velcro is helpful in getting the perfect fit. I use baby socks with them She is a petit 44 lbs with little paws.

well-built and do the job well!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I got these boots so my guide dog could walk across hot pavement safely along with keeping her paws protected from salt and ice in the winter. She wasn't thrilled about them at first, but she's gotten more used to them and doesn't mind them too much anymore. My only issue is that when I put socks on her front paws to protect her dew claws, the boots slip down her foot and make it harder for her to walk normally, especially up stairs. Though I do have generic baby socks, which are a bit loose, and that might be the issue.

Outstanding!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased my service dog's boot over 4 years ago now. The still look brand new!. Nathanael has front dew claws so I got baby sox and cut the toe off and made a cuff to cover his dew claws on his front feet. Nathanael wears them in airports, theme parks, hot asphalt, the beach, flying in planes, and the entire time we were in Geneva Switzerland. We get a lot of looks and comments. I am so impressed with the workmanship, and quality of these. Nathanael wears them when needed, we do not use them on a daily basis. He does wear them on a daily basis when we are in hot areas and when we visit Disney and Universal Studios. He has his own Facebook page and you can see him working in his gear!. I love these and I have recently purchased another type of boots so people can see his feet and stop stepping on his front feet. I highly recommend these for any service dog or a very active dog.

ok but....not with dew claws intact

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I purchased these from a shop in chitown. even bought the socks to go with them for added comfort. although they do protect from burning salt on the road I have found THAT IF YOUR DOG HAS DEW CLAWS these do not work. The blistering from compression on front dew claws was intense. tried all ways to relieve this including wrapping dew claws first, adding padding in area, etc. no go. was happy at first for the protection but not the pain my dog felt wearing them after I noticed the rawness and wound. This is not a matter of to tight or improper use..they just don't work for front dew claws. tried on other dogs with dew claws, same thing. perhaps a change in strap placement (I tried) or another recommendation from RuffWear. OUCH. PS_must secure tightly or they will come off during a run_more so the back boots..and check often..which means don't rely on them staying on unless oyu have a constant eye on him. as far as winter salt..i simply reverted back to PAWS and reinforced those around toe and bottom with clothe medical tape for traction on ice. Was hoping to use on hot pavement/beach..not an option any longer. also, could use some more flexibility

Absolutely fantastic

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Love love love these boots. The difference between these and others on the market is huge. They fit great and the quality is awesome, great attention to detail. Little tip though, they fit great alone, but with the boot liners (or socks) they fit even better. With them there is no movement or slipping even after a long day on the job. The socks also prevent any dew claw rubbing. Across the board great product. I've tried a few brands and these are my top choice by far!

Well worth the money!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

As a dog trainer I have seen and gone through hundreds of dollars worth of dog gear, I have seen boots tried and failed but I could not be happier with these! At first I was a bit concerned because my dog has very skinny legs and hey kept falling off but after a few tries we got the hang of it and they haven't come off since, I bought them for my Service Dog in Training because her paws were getting burned by the hot pavement and she was slipping all over the floors at the mall but those problems are now a thing of the past! I can tell they are comfortable and super durable even with Daisy, who just loves to tear up the track! I recommend them to all of my clients! Now if I could just get her to pick up dropped objects in them!

I've been a huge fan of Ruffwear since the day I was introduced back in 06’. We have bought many products and of all sorts from Ruffwear. The Grip Trex was the very first purchase we made and haven’t look elsewhere. We're an active family and live around a lot of pavement, glass, and other dangers surfaces. These boots have saved my pups paws. They offer unparalleled traction and stay on even when my girls are in an all-out dash playing and chasing each other. I have referred these boots and Ruffwear to numerous friends and NONE have had any regrets. Based on referral, there is even a pair on a pup in running the sands of Saudi Arabian desert. One last thing, we run an assistance dog program called Freedom Fur and we require all of our puppy raises to own these, especially in the summer. If it too hot for your feet it’s too hot for theirs!! I wouldn't own another boot we love this company!

Great for keeping paws clean and healthy

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought a set for my pup as our walks down our street are roadside (without sidewalks). In winter, we have lots of salt everywhere which leads to painful paws. The boots are built well, and cinch up great. The only thing to watch out for is proper sizing! As front and back paws of most dogs are different sizes, you might have to get different sizes to prevent boots that are too large from spinning around. I had that very issue with one spinning around causing some of the stitching to prematurely wear out. Ruffwear graciously covered it under their warranty and replaced a pair with the size smaller. Great boots. Great customer service.

well made, impractical

Would you recommend this product?.: No

Bought these boots for a working dog, they are well made but they don't work very well. The size measurement was done with the correct chart and a set of veneer gauges(for measuring down to thousands of an inch). The problem is the dogs work livestock and they turn 180 degrees up to a thousand times an hour. Yes that's right, the boots on the back feet spun around and were upside down within minutes. I tried tightening them right up but ran out of Velcro on the strap, as these dogs have big paws and narrow wiry long legs.I managed to get them to stay on the front feet O.K. My older dogs couldn't cope with them as they jump over rails all day and it threw out their balance as they hit the top rail on the way over and reboost their jump. Anyway they have helped the front feet a bit from damage but simply cant use them on the back feet and these are the work legs so I wouldn't recommend them for full on working dogs unless you want to just protect the front feet and the dog is young and can get used to them.

Life Saver

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We live on our bikes at the shore, and take our dogs with us throughout town. Between the sand on the asphalt and the heat we have to have shoes to keep their feet safe. They are hard runners and go through a pair of shoes a year. The socks are a must-have. One of our dogs has dew claws, so we invest in vet tape to eliminate any rubbing from activity. We tried some cheaper brands over the years, yet keep coming back to Grip Trex due to the superior quality and fit. This winter was a tough one, and the shoes were a godsend to keep their feet free of snow and ice balls. If they went out without their shoes they wanted to come right back inside. So after 7 years, we still love these shoes and will always come back for more!

LOVE THEM - saved Caesar's Paws!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Caesar has contact dermatitis and an allergy problem effecting his feet. He would knawl at his feet and chew them raw. He would have to go on steroids and medicated foot washes, which he hated. At the urging of our vet, we tried booties. Caesar didn't like them at first, but now it's part of his routine.Ever since we started using the boots, he hasn't had any problems or issues. On one of his boots, the velcro wasn't sticking and I contacted customer service. They replaced all 4 boots - in a snap. They are awesome. These boots really saved Caesar's Paws and are quality construction. They were very helpful after the horrible winter we had on the East Coast and with all the sand and salt outside, his feet were protected. You never notice all the "crap" dogs step in until you see the bottom of it on the shoes. These boots are life savers!!

I am very impressed with the Quality of the Grip Trex, they are extremely well put together. They are also very easy to put on correctly, and fit over my dog's paws well which is important since I have limited mobility in my hands. However my dog has dew claws and has an issue with the top of the boot rubbing his dew claw. I ordered socks which seems to have solves this problem. My only other issue with these boots is that they tend to turn around without the boot liners. My Service dog hasn't worn them enough with the liners to tell if the turning is going to be an issue or not.

Yes, Finally!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I went through many different dog shoe brands. Some of them would be too small-too big (too large of gap between sizes), some would fall apart, some would twist/turn on the paws and others would completely fall off. After much frustration I found out about Ruffwear (I got the granite-gray; nice neutrality) from service dog companies. The will purchase no other shoes besides ruffwear grip shoes. Now I understand why! They are very durable and many of the service dogs will have these shoes for literally about 4 years before having to replace (thats better than the human ones LOL). There are so many great features of this shoe, too may to mention BUT I will say that these shoes are protective and worth EVERY dollar spent. They are also fitted and created properly so that the dogs can run, etc. safely. PS: The dogs seem to adjust quite quickly with this brand. :-)

Love it!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Aslan is my Service Dog, and needed this type of protection for his paws. I love these shoes, because: 1. They are very easy to slip on him 2. They stay on pretty well 3. They protect his paws from glass and extreme pavement temperatures. I would recommend them for any dog that is active, especially in extreme temp environments!!

PAWSOME!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These shoes have literally saved Delilah's life. She has arthritis in her spine and her back legs are weak...and that weakness causes her legs to slip out from under her when on hardwood floors. She does well outside on "grippier" terrain so she just wears them on her back feet. At first it was rough and she didn't like to have them on...but we persevered mostly because we didn't have any choice and I just knew once she got the hang of them it would be great. She know runs across the floor with excitement and confidence. We have a routine when we put them on and it is not a hassle at all. It just took patience and practice. The sizing tips you gave were perfect. She is so darn cute in them and the shoes give her confidence, comfort and mobility; which gives the humans some peace of mind.

I bought these today for my 5month old puppy, he took less than 5 minutes to get the hang of walking running AND hiking in these boots. Since he is only 5 months and still growing I got him boots that are just a little bigger. He did GREAT but since the boots were big the socks kept sliding down and one front paw boot kept almost falling off, and my puppy kept wiping out, tumbling down little hills. I keep saying 'puppy' but he's like 25lbs. At this time I can't give a full on review since it was his first time, when I took his boots off there were lots of rocks in them, probably because they were A little big, I think they'll be good once he gets used to them.

I wanted these boots because they are well made and provide good protection for my girl's paws. They do. She did a slight dance when I first put them on, but unlike other boots we tried, she seemed comfortable, didn't chew at them or try to take them off. She always seems comfortable. She also gets a lot of complements too. What began as protection seems to be stylish or cute to other people. Go figure!

My lab Tucker is my service dog and thus goes everywhere with me. We own both a red pair and a gray pair. These shoes have been through rough OK summers, many miles on pavement, in snow, rain, fields, on planes, escalators, you name it. They hold up to everything we put them through. One thing I don't understand though is that his back shoes have a habit of flipping over the more he runs. Other than that, they have handled everything like a charm, even when our Corgi stole one shoe he didn't manage to tear anything up.

Cooper is very sensative to the city salt on our sidewalks. These boots have worked great for the past 2 winters. He's been able to run and play in them without incident. Good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These boots work well in winter but with some modifications could be mush better. For what these boots cost Ruff Wear should make these simple modifications. First, a better quality velcro would help. I need to use duct tape each time we go out in deep snow because once the snow packs onto the small strip of velcro it releases and the boot falls off. We have lost 2 boots this winter and will find them in the spring after the snow melts. The second issue is that there should be a left and right boot. As designed the right foot boot catches the velcro of the left boot and it pulls the velcro off. Again, boots come off. Come on Ruff Wear. Listen to your reviews and make these simple changes and them you will have the best dog boot available.

She has worn these boots for 5 yrs, they finally needed to be replaced. You originally sent the new, lower cut , style. They fell off her dew claws and came off. I returned them for a pair (4) of the old style. They are great. My dog is a Therapy Dog and she is out a lot. Side walks in PHX get very hot. The dog loves the boots, she sits and lifts her paws to have them put on! The new style is not good. If it was cost saving on material, bad choice. I will 5 star and highly recommend the old style!

I originally ordered these shoes for the guide dogs I puppy raise for. When training a guide dog they go everywhere with me. When we would go to the zoo and Disney the pavement would be too hot for their feet all day so I thought these shoes along with the boot liners would help that. They protected the dogs paws although even with the boot liners they rub the dogs paws like crazy. The dogs paws would have horrible blisters and would have sores on them. For the price of the shoes (which is expensive to begin with) they just cause more problems. I was going to return them but its $10 to ship them back. To say the least I think they are over priced and don't work

Great for winter!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Chose these boots over the other styles because I was concerned the other taller boots would be harder to get on, especially on a dog with dew claws. These are indispensible in Wisconsin winter weather. For example, when its -13 F outside, Kota's feet get cold and she would alternate and hold one up at a time or even sit down to get off her feet. With these boots on, she enjoys her morning walks and wants to keep going! If they are put on properly, they don't fall off, and snow should for the most part stay out. I was surprised for a 65# dog she needed the small size. Make sure you follow the sizing instructions. Love that they sell single ones in case we potentially lose one in the future. Also good for rainy weather to keep muddy feet from being tracked inside. We have not tried these for hiking and cannot comment on how comfortable they would be for extended periods of time, we use them for 15-20 min. walks.

Like the easy on and off. Your product with the sock attached was very difficult. Can have both dogs put together and out the door in 2 minutes. The younger one took to them right away. The older one has taken a bit longer to get use to them. Use them mainly in cold winter weather. Keeps snow and ice out and saves the paws from freezing. Also saves time getting the dogs in and out of the house. We just went through some really cold (-25 degrees) weather and the dogs could stay out without any injury to their paws.

Not always reliable at staying on, too bad

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Our dog adjusted easily enough. However, when walking trails, streams and muck the velcro collects grasses and then does not sealy. Very difficult to clean out and make the boot stay on. In winter, I only use in a controlled environment, on the street so I can see if they fall off. Perhaps they can use straps like snow MSR snowshoes or something that make the stay on all the time. Today it is 0 degrees, would love to let them run free but find I always have to look to see a bootie came off, so a less enjoyable walk for me and then some $ for replacement Recommended with caution, depending on your dog and how much they like to run into the woods vs. staying on a path and strolling.

While aton a walk coming across a beach, these shoes provided protection from the hot sand, but do get her feet hot and need to be taken off. In the winter they are great protecting her from Chicago's icy cold cement. She hasn't learned how to run in them correctly yet. My guide dog school provided us with one pair of shoes, but bought another pair in a different color. I get a lot of questions about these boots, people have never seen a dog wear shoes before. They also provide some protection while riding a crowded city bus.

Don't buy for dogs with dew claws.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These boots are sturdy and reliable. They're made with the same products I use (Vibram soles!) but there are two huge design flaws. 1. If your dog has dew claws, it can't wear these boots, specifically on the back paws, because they strap up right on the claws and it irritates Loki a lot. 2. Dogs' back feet are smaller than their front feet, so the boots fit perfectly on the front paws and are huge on the back ones. I am keeping them, and might end up ordering a second entire set that are sized for his back feet, because he can get them off and I'm sure I'll be losing a couple here and there anyway. They are great for snowy weather as well as hot pavement, and once he got used to them, he doesn't even notice they're on. It is slightly disappointing that such a dog-savvy company would sell boots in singles or four packs, but not two packs so Loki can wear the right size on all four paws and I didn't have to spend $160 on boots for a dog.

Great Quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have a 67lb 7mth old Mastiff pit bull mix named Gideon and I bought these along with a pack to give him a job. He had never used booties before, but these have been amazing for him to learn in. They are easy to put on, especially with him being a squirmy hyper kind of dog. I originally bought them because our normal walks are on a lot of hot concrete and I could tell that the heat was hurting his feet, but I have found that these boots work well for the beach and hikes. The only thing I would suggest would be measuring both the back and the front feet. Gideon has extra large front feet, but his backs are only a large so his back booties are a little big. I know that Ruffwear sells individual booties, but it would be nice if they could do groups of two just incase there are dogs with feet like Gideon's. Other than that, these booties have been wonderful and Gideon will actually bring them to me when he wants to go for a walk.

Great!

So far I'm pretty happy with them! I got them because we enjoy hiking and Tigger has had issues with tears in his pads and hot trails. I had him wear them a bit around the house/town just to get him used to them. We used them for the first time on a hike this weekend when we did White Mountain, a California fourteener with a lot of sharp rocks on the trail. He wore them for probably 10 miles. I'm happy to report that his pads were well protected. He was dancing at home when he wore them, but I think on the trail, he realized how much more comfortable it is to have them on. He had fun darting ahead and kicking up the snow. The only downside is that he did have some issues with rubbing where his front dew claws are, leaving the area a bit red and raw. It may be because his dew claw is very close to the strap. He also has rear dew claws, but during our hike, I purposefully left one tucked into the boot and one out. The one tucked in had some rubbing issues, the one tucked out did not. Now we know. I bought the bootliners/socks too and will try those to see if it helps the rubbing. Will also try taping with vet wrap. I'm pretty confident that the rubbing issue can be fixed and I'm glad to have these boots for him! Over all

Also great for protecting paws from glass that can be found in outdoor restraint grass areas. Ive had no problem at all with using these boots on any ground from rocks to sand. The only problem is it has rubbed the tops on my young boxers paws but easy fixed with ruff wear liners, custom socks or vet wrap. The rubbing my go way in the next few years as she continues to grow because as of right now her paws are higher then normal adult dogs. But if not she dose not mind the socks or boots. Monkey has Addison's disease and this seems to have caused her paws to become real sensitive. I usually have to muzzle her to look at her feet. So I wanted to give these a try. While being entertained with her toy I put them on her. She hopped a little and tried to kick them off when not distracted. But once she realized that she could walk on the gravel and not hurt she just ran and played freely. Even though she has small legs above her paws and plays hard she kept them on. I was so happy to see that these worked for her and that she could be the dog she was meant to be.

We hiked in the granite of desolation wilderness at tahoe. While the booties definitely saved his bacon, there were two things (as a pet professional) that I noted: 1) when the sock liners were used with the booties, his gait was altered such that he looked like he didnt know which foot to limp on. We made sure there was no bunching etc...everything fit fine. We took off the sock liners and his gait immediately returned to normal. But, after a few miles he stopped and licked at the cuffs of the booties as they were obviously bothering him. All in all, the booties did their job but an improvement in the design would be great if there could somehow be a softer cuff area (neoprene?).

Sturdy, but also great looking.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Bought these for hot asphalt surfaces that my service dog, Brody and I will have to cross at different school sites during the hot September afternoons not realizing it was going to turn hot early this year. Easy for me to put on/take off, which is key. Did have to size up due to his webbed feet and "clenching" during measurements. So have 2 pairs, one too small and new (should have kept that receipt, but trial run on carpet fit since he still was clenching his paws), one perfect and being used.

Dog's Best Friend

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased 2 other pair of dog shoes from Petco and Petsmart, each at 30.00 + a piece. The first pair, ripped in 10 minutes of use. The second pair, wouldn't even stay on and the soles ripped to shreds with regular wear. My husband researched online for durable shoes for my active German Shepherd/Rotty and came across Ruffwear. The price is up there, more than what I pay for my own shoes, but we decided to give them a try. They shipped very quickly after a holiday weekend and once I received them I was amazed. They were clearly very durable and of high quality. Extremely easy to get on as well. My dog is a sprinter and a jumper-- she will sprint and slide to a stop with no regrets. I needed to find a shoe that can put up with her insanely active lifestyle. Ruffwear is it. She LOVES her shoes. When I bring them out of the shoe cabinet her eyes light up and she gets extremely excited to put them on. The original purpose of buying dog shoes in the first place was due to her ripping up her paw pads very badly. It amazed me the difference of her attitude and energy from when she was lounging around the house in pain, barely walking, to putting these on 5 minutes later and running around again. I am very happy I bought these, as is my little Lennox, and I will continue to purchase them as she grows and requires larger sizes. Thank You!!!

We have used the griptrex on two of my service dogs now, and nothing else compares. What I love about griptrex is that you can use them in heat and cold. I was concerned when I got Rhodey that his double dewclaws on his back legs would cause a problem with the boots. A friend sent me 2 of the boot liners and they cover them perfectly! It didn't take Rhodey long at all to adjust to the boots and I am glad to know that his feet are safe from the hot socal summer heat! I wear vibrams so I know that he's getting the same comfort and feeling the same thing I am.

Love!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Let me start with the fact that i was raised on a ranch and any article of clothing that is put on a animal outside of function is not cool. Well this is my first summer having Breck here in the valley of the sun. I remember when i moved here a few years ago i had a pair of old navy foam flip flops and left them in the sun while in the pool and it they shrunk from a size 11 to about a 7. The heat here is unreal for a few months out of the year. Well Breck is super active (the Border Collie in him) and did not want to have his paws blister when we go for our runs/walks/farmers market. I saw him wince the first few 100 degress day we had when he stepped off the grass. So I knew i had to find something to keep him active so he does not go stir crazy or tear up the house. It is pretty hilarious watching him walk the first time you put them on, be sure you have a camera! I suggest you let your pup master flat land before you have them go up and down steps as the sensitivity of their paws are not the same. They could stumble or catch a foot where they normally would not if the shoes were not on. Associate the shoes with fun and your dog will adjust in no time. Just be sure to check thier feet after wearing as it is not NATURAL for them to have shoes on and they could develop hot spots (think of breaking in a new pair of hiking boots) until they get used to them Over all pretty happy and some people have commented on them. This is my 5th (2 collars, 2 leashes, and shoes) ruff wear product and this stuff is well made

The Grip Trex work great on Kaline, my young Doberman. He got used to them very quickly and they fit nicely. With Juno, my Doberman mix, despite measuring her feet before ordering the front boots were too small and rubbed little raw spots on her feet. I have since ordered one size up just for her front feet because the back boots are fine. The Grip Trex are super easy to put on, especially compared to the Skyliners. I like those but it would be easier to put them on if I had three hands instead of two! Grip Trex look awesome too, very sharp. We have grey ones but a friend's Boxer has the red ones, and she gets compliments on them all the time.

We purchased the smallest (2.0") for our 23lb doodle. The fit seems ok--when trekking on dry outings. But on wet days--the Grip Trex absorb and collect water, increasing their weight, and often slipping off on the trail. We regularly have to keep an eye out for the "lost" boot and have to keep re-donning for the poor boy. With all that said, he seems to be comfortable wearing them, and the protection benefits are worth the hassle (on wet outings).

We bike while running our dogs during the summer down the shore - hot asphalt and sand are like glass on their pads and during the winter when the salt can be iritating. These shoes have been a godsend. One of our dogs has dew claws, which was a problem intiially, however now we wrap them up with vet tape, socks then shoes - no rubbing! We are on our 5th pair for our oldest, 3rd for our youngest. but that doesn't mean they aren't holding up - the dogs run hard on hard surfaces, so they're going to put them through the ringer! We like the tread vs. the smooth bottoms - gives them a little more traction on their runs. I do miss the old sizing, however, as I knew I needed Mediums, now am not so sure which size to get...

We have a Puggle (Pug & Beagle) that has the drive a Beagle, but his pads can't keep up. We went through several pairs of other brands and rubber booties only to have been shredded, duck taped etc. before we found these. Grip Trex is awesome, and in works superbly on pavement exercise! Until the shoe forms to the feet, it might flip over, but I found that if I strap it more snug, it will stay true. Also, I did find him tripping a few times over his feet due to the heavier weight of the shoe, but he adjusted fairly quickly to the weight. Before workout, he will repeatedly lay down on all fours, but there's no stopping him from fetching the ball once the game is on. We love these! Reilly, 22lbs., small shoes

Our dogloves the snow and we live along a woods trail but he quickly gets painful snowballs in his footpads. I tried trimmming the fur, vaoline and oil and a pair of boots that just made him slide on the ice. Then we found the Ruff Wear grip tex. This is winter 4 with them and they work great for performance and comfort. Maki gets excited when we take them out and all the other dog owners want to know where to get them. Tips : fit them right (we thought our dog had large feet but he was a medium), they have to be on pretty tight to stay on and not spin over, the socks are a must to prevent rub spots, keep the velcro clean.

These are fulfill what we needed them for. We use them when we walk our 165 pound saint bernard on the asphalt. He tends to scratch his hind legs towards the end of a walk. On grass or softer surfaces this isn't a problem. However, on asphalt/concrete the scratch has continually rubbed his nails to the quick. Before these boots his nail would be bleeding when we brought him in the house. We were either going to walk him much shorter like 8 minutes or get these boots so he could go for his typical 20 minute walk. He is happier because he gets his good walk/workout and we are happy cause his nails aren't bleeding. I would have given 5 stars if they offered a shoe size bigger than the 3.5. But the 3.5's work, not perfect size, but the biggest ruff wear has, so it will have to make due.

We bought these when our dog got old and the arthritis in his back legs made it hard for him to walk on wood floors. They work well; he has traction again. On the other hand, these boots are constantly turning upside down. That's not a big deal, as he doesn't slip that way either. But the loop for the velco strap broke after just a few months, presumably from being walked on in the upside-down position. I replaced them with another pair, because I don't think there's anything better out there and shoes for dogs is probably just plain hard to do. I would give it 5 stars if they could find a way to keep the shoe on right-side up.

Started wearing the grip trex bark'n boots when my 14 year old was having trouble walking, dragging his paws, and falling. With gradual use and increasing use and exercise, he was back to walking 2 miles/day. They worked great when hiking in the hot summer heat to protect his paws, as well as in the snow. They helped us keep each other together longer, till he passed away of old age at 17 years of age. Once he realized how they benefited him - after the first 2 or 3 times wearing them, I had no trouble with him trying to remove them. Highly recommend them to protect paws and keep older pets exercised and provide grip protection! I even bought myself a few pairs of vibram soled shoes and love them!

pretty darn good!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Shadow has recently developed a sensitivity to ice/ snow/ salt. Sizing info provided for how to measure was "spot on". It only took part of a day for him to adjust to walking correctly in the boots. And although he really doesn't like them yet and only wears them in the ice/snow... he seems to understand that they're helping. My only downside comment is going to be that they're a little difficult to keep them on the front feet.... b/c they hit right where is dew claw is.... so I have to keep a close eye on him or they get flipped off. At night in the snow.... that's kind of hard to do. I'd give these a 3 1/2 star rating. (Maybe raise the boots up higher so they'll go over the higher claw?)

I like the overall design of the boots, yet the strap still lands across the duclaw... as all dog shoes seem to do. Some designer should start taking this issue into thought. I left a message for the product manager, who never returned my call. I am going to try one size larger and realign the strap higher to prevent rubbing on his upper nails. Hopefully that will do the trick. Again, I like the product, but not all dogs have their upper nails removed at birth. Please consider redesigning the boot for the dogs who still have them.

The Bark'n boots are fantastic. The dog loves them and just want to run everytime he wears them. They are ideal on rough, rocky, dusty ground like we have out here on the island of Tenerife. Most of the surface here is volcanic which is very jagged and can cut the dogs paws very easy. He uses them also for access over rocks and boulder to go for a swim in the ocean. These boots keep her from slipping. They are like sneakers for dogs. The sold is high grade rubber and they are very durable. She wasn't too happy about wearing them at first but I think she'll get used to them. The socks seem like a good idea if they are worn a lot so I'm going to order them. It was helpful to start her wearing them for short periods and then increase time on each day.

Well...I REALLY like the 2 that fit his front paws perfectly and have AWESOME traction! They dont come off, or loosen or make him miserable. His back shoes however, leave something to be desired. I cannot get them tight enough for him so that they do not come off and they constantly twist so that the sole is on top. This only happens on the back shoes though. Maybe its just MY Spoo or maybe it is the shoes but I wish they came in pairs instead of fours, that way I could get more specific in sizing for him.

My terrier/hound mixed breed dog loves to run in the snow but his warm feet easily pick up painful ice balls. I've tried all 3 styles of Ruffwear's boots on him. I haven't worked much with the Polar Trex but had trouble keeping them on so far. The Grip Trex have been the most successful so far -- I wrapped the fastener with self-adhesive medical tape to keep snow out of the hook-and-loop structure and had no problem keeping all boots on. (We use the socks under all boots.) I'm going to try the tape on the fastener for the Bark'n Boots when I get a replacement for the one lost a couple days ago. I think he has better winter traction with the Bark'n Boots but the fastener does get full of snow and stops holding after several minutes in deep snow. Sunny seems to enjoy winter even more with boots on -- his feet stay warmer and no ice balls! He is extremely active in snow generally and gallops almost non-stop with boots on. Great products -- we're going to try the Polar Trex again to see if I can make them work.

Excellent for normal wear

These boots have given Tori a new lease on life. She has Degenerative Myolopthy and drags one back leg so badly that she was tearing up her paw on the pavement. She was also unstable on my hardwood floors. She is not slipping on the floors anylonger and is able to walk outside again. She lies down and puts her paws out for me to put on her boots each morning. Only problem was her wearing thru the tops of the boots within 5-7 days. Customer service was most helpful with a suggestion after I let them know I had glued two boots together to provide rubber on both sides. Prompt and most helpful service

My dog plays hard, likes to play basketball on the court, go hiking, walks on hot payments, etc. He rubbed his pads off twice. I felt so bad and was thrilled to find these boots and purchase them. He can now be real active again. There is no problem with them falling off. He walked a little funny at first, but does not mind them. He can climb rocking areas now and his feet are protected. No regrets buying these. I totally recommend them. He actually looks cute in them.

These boots are great! I have owned others before for my dogs, but they have never been that good and dogs didn't necessarily care for them. These boots on the other hand are perfect, they are well built and high quality (heck, they have a Vibram sole like a high quality hiking boot!). After about 15 minutes wearing these, my huge (100 lbs) Lab was use to them, and I could tell acually more comfortable with them on. We do a lot of hiking and backpacking, and the ground can be very hot and/ or rocky. I feel a lot better now knowing my dogs feet/pads are well protected with these on! The other great thing is... they actually stay on! Would highly recommend!!

I was so happy that he was able to do that without his feet getting tore up, they work great, fit great, and are a real plus for tender feet!!

We did a fourteener and my dog has cut his feet in the past. I put the boots on Cooper and he didn't like them at first, but he eventually got used to them. I used a little gorilla tape to make sure they didn't fall off and it worked well. Great product and it saved his feet or i don't think he would have made it. Only bad thing is the booties came a little unstitched and I don't think they would last for another hike. Can I send them back for replacement?

Our dog loves to run but asphalt is hard on his pads, so we tried these booties. He does not mind them at all. They are great for trail running & riding beside bike. I'd recommend ordering smaller size if in-doubt, as he has "turned around" the rear booties when he's really playing (vs. more straight line running). They are very well made & durable. Maybe slightly smaller size for rear feet would be an improvement, to help them stay on better?... right now all booties seem the same size.

Great product, I got the socks as well and use them to run with my dog because he hurts his paw pads on rough dirt and pavement. My only issue is that although I measured my dog's paws according to the size chart, the shoes that I received still ended up seeming too large once he started running with them, and by that time they were too scuffed to return. Now I have to order another pair that will hopefully fit correctly

I bought these shoes to keep her from getting injuries on her feet and they worked amazingly. I had to buy a slightly bigger size because she has arthritis and swelling but she doesnt limp because the ground is rough or rocky. These saved her feet and her running. Plus she thinks shes the queen with them on!

Hard for me to determine what part of the boot it was, but I believe the soles were too long for my Corgi. She had a hard time walking in them on carpet 20% of the time; the other 80% she flat out refused to walk around on the carpet. I bought the 2.0" size after properly measuring her, but they didn't fit her Corgi legs length-wise. That, and she had found out how to get the boots off herself after 90 minutes of wearing them by standing on her paws... Interesting product, but overall didn't work for us.

Poor Fit. Not Long enough.

Would you recommend this product?.: No

Poor fit and won't stay on. They are not long enough to come up over, and stay over the dew claw. And had to buy a full set of medium and two singles in small since front and back paws are different widths. A serious flaw in their design and merchandising. Only way to get them to stay on is to use vet wrap as a pre-layer and then duck tape boot to vet wrap. The idea of boots is great but Ruff Wear needs to redesign the boots to make them longer, or at least offer longer boot as an option.

When we were transferred to Colorado I knew I needed to trade in Mesa's fashion shoes for something more durable. He is very particular about his feet and will not walk in snow....he will just roll over and cry. These boots fit the bill perfectly. I purchased the socks to go along with the boots and have had no problems with them turning or coming off. Mesa has been wearing shoes his whole life, so it was no big deal for him, but Izzie had never had shoes, but again no issues she did the whole high-step thing at first, but warmed up to them very quickly. We have taken them out from snow to the very hot hiking and climbing of Moab and have loved every bit of it. The boots work great, fit great and get the job done. They know when the boots come out, an adventure is on. Only small complaint is that the socks are breathable and their feet get a little sweaty in the heat.

Not right for us

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I got these booties as my white husky has issues with her front paw pads peeling while urban mushing. She runs about 50/50 on drough dirt and sidewalk. The first set of mushing booties I got wore out very quickly and got holes so I decided booties with soles would be a better idea. Problem #1 is that as she runs, dirt gets into them. I made sure her paws were clean before putting the boots on and I wiped out the inside of the boots too. We got there and in the bottom of the boot was a pinch of gritty dirt. What happens when she has dirt trapped in her boot? The grit grinds and cuts into her paw pads. They are now much worse than before using the booties. Problem #2 is that they rub off her fur. After every run there is fur gathered at the bottom of the boot. Problem #3 is that she trips over them. That could honestly be a sizing issue but overall the fit is fine. Problem #4 is that THEY ARE WEARING OUT after only SIX MILES. She's worn them TWICE. The fabric on top is already worn and fraying. The soles are fine though. These boots may be fine for a dog who is walking, but not for running on dirt.

We love the idea of the shoes for older dogs who need traction control on slipper floors. We found that the shoes twisted on our dog's feet so that he would end up walking on the wrong side. We were heading out to the desert where the temps are well over 100 degrees and the blacktop can get up to 130 -140 degrees so we know our San Francisco dog needed foot protection. We started out buying pet boots from one of the big box pet stores but they didn’t fit well and they seemed clunky. After doing some research online I found these. The Bark’n Boots fit great and worked like a champ. Our black lab is very careful around the house so when we put the shoes on she was not sure what to do. it took several tries to get her accustom to the shoes. We put them on her several days before the trip so that she could get used to them. I highly recommend the product.

Great product. Has changed my dog's life!

My 16 year old dog and I recently moved. Our new place has hardwood floors, and you can imagine our horror when she started slipping and falling all over the place. She was quarantined to my bed after having such bad falls on her face that she split her lip. She was so depressed, I truly thought her life was nearing its end. I purchased the Bark'n Boots, but exchanged them for the Skyliners. Truly changed her life. She is back to her old self, walking, wagging and confident. I found that the measuring tool on the inside of the box is actually the most effective measurement for sizing. She got used to them within 2 days. Easy to put on, effective, easy to clean...wonderful. She even wore them out in a Tropical Storm. Fabulous product. Oh! almost forgot...I do recommend a sock of some kind. Seems to make everything fit better. Thank you ruff wear. I recommend these to all my friends with "elder" dogs. xoxo

I am delighted to say I have just brought 2 pairs of the old style on eBay and they don't twist, the shape is much better. Please can you consider bringing the old style back and obviously keeping the new as some people seem happy, maybe because they didn't purchase the old style, so don't know the difference. So, we did the measurement thing and had someone at the store double check. We did some inside testing at home that went well. Lots of treats and running on the carpet. Next was a brief outdoor test. It had been raining so the cement paths were wet. The boots didn't do well on wet. Bella was falling all over the place. After things dried up we did a full on around the block test. They seemed to stay on ok, but when I got back I realized the soles of the boots were on the upside. Poop.

Zephyr used to slip and fall on the hardwood daily, he wouldn't follow us around the house, he seemed depressed. These shoes came recommended to us, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Our only regret is not getting these shoes sooner. He is back to his 4 legged self now. No carpet runners anywhere. He follows us all over. He never falls. One thing though. He has a dew claw on the front paw that rubbed a bit, also he almost needs a smaller size for his back feet. So we purchased a pair of socks and now all is well. His dew claw is better and his back shoes fit perfect. Thank you ruff wear you have changed Zephyr and our lives for the better.

Very good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The entire reason for my purchase of these particular boots was the grip on the bottom of them. My dog recently broke her leg and needed something to protect the cast and give her traction when going outside, so I did my research, read reviews of other users and found that Ruff Wear boots are the best and that was all I needed! Even though the boots don't keep the paws from getting wet, they do repell mud and other messes my dog might get in to. They also breathe well so that my dogs paws never sweat. Overall, I have been very happy with the product, but highly recommend if you get these boots, that you also purchase the socks to go with them. Otherwise the boots have a tendency to slide off.

I was concerned about taking the dogs into the desert, they walk five miles a day with me on cement and asphalt but I was concerned about the rocks and brush in Red Rock Canyon Nevada. I bought the grip trex dog boots for both of them. It took them about 100 feet to get used to the boots. When we hiked in Red Rock, the tread seemed to assist them in climbing over boulders that were in our path. It was funny to watch them use their paws like rock climbers as they navigated over large and small rocks. I know they have been helpful to protect their paws as I have pulled a few cactus needles out of the rubber pars of the shoes and they dogs have not had any troubles with their paws.

The boots work pretty well, though you really have to tighten the strap significantly to keep them on. We take our dog mountain biking, so he does a lot of running while we're out. The boot may benefit from an additional strap further up the dog's let so that it stays on better. Also, the gray color of the skyliner makes no sense, given that it makes the boot very difficult to find on the trail when it comes off. Also, the skyliner stays on much better than the "grip trex" boot.

We really, really, REALLY loved the old style - shorter shoes (FIVE STARS!). The new style shoes are too long for my service dog (TWO STARS). They rub & irritate his dewclaws, so he cannot wear them. PLEASE bring back the shorter style, while retaining this longer style so it meets the needs we have and others have. Then I can mean YES when I recommend the product whereas now my "Yes" means "Maybe" depending on if your dog has dewclaws or where your dog's dewclaws are located.

Our aged boxer is no longer with us, but his last days were made much happier because he was able to get out and run up until his last day. Champ's hind legs were giving out on him and walking was very difficult because his paws turned under and his toes scraped the ground, often bleeding. By wearing the Ruff Wear boots, his paws were protected and he was able to go walking outdoors and check his "peemail", the highlight of his day. I thought the price of the boots was high, but they were well worth it.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My dog loves them ..runs faster and is happier with them on knowing his feet are safe from prickly/hurtful things. He as had stiches in pads several times ..these have saved the day. He's a big boy I thought would need XL ...he is L in front and M in back. Bu y two sets one size apart for front and back (a good guess) and then you have two sets in case you lose any. Tie them up tight ..they are not uncomfortable when you do (I can tell) to keep them on. How tight the velcro strap is, is almost more important than size ..but you don't want them too big to avoid 'spinning' ..front ends up on bottom and bottom on top. The pros far outweigh the cons ..I can't think of cons ..we just love them and my dog tears it up outside ..a total athlete. They don't even come off in icy snow when he's tearing it up! Love 'em

Tried several other brands - useless. Then tried these in med size, better, but still tossed off one or two each trip - and sometimes had a blister or tender spot that he licked. Finally read the instructions, measured and now have all large size, With the boot liners - critical! HOWEVER, first round with the liners and they were too short...ended up stuffed down at the toes. So, added a 2 inch knitted cuff to the tops of the liners - Perfect! Just fold the cuffs over the tops of the boots. No problem since, and Biscuit dances about until he's sprung to run up and down our 1 mile steep, windy mining road - complete with lots of sharp rocks - n snow.

I purchased the boots with the socks after reading several reviews. Both were easy to put on however the front two kept spinning around on our initial walk. Once I tightened the straps they stayed in place. As soon as my dog took off running the back two boots went flying...but once I got them back on and tightened the straps better they worked like a charm! My dog rips up her pads really bad and she was able to run really hard for over an hour with her new dog shoes just perfectly! I am looking forward to taking her up to the mountains where there is much tougher terrain with her Ruff Wear boots so she can enjoy running without ripping up her pads anymore! My advise is to make sure the straps are really securely tightened and the boots will work great! Awesome traction too. Worth every penny!

New design a better fit. Old design didn't fit. Yet still not great. Dew claws get caught on front feet, and as well trained and accommodating as my guys are, they just don't like them, they tire quicker with them (= sore feet?), and I could go on. I'm moving on to other brands - what a waste of money. And how can the sizes be so different old to new. I get other reviewers size wise though - my labrador is in the S and XS - (so I need the length), but how do small dogs get on... Something is fundamentally wrong....

I bought these so my 15 year old could get some traction on our hardwood floors. First, I'll say that he would have a very hard time getting around without these, so they have helped. On his back paws, the boots are great! But, I have two chief complaints about the fronts: 1. the velcro straps cinch right where his dew claws are - at times they have popped out and I wonder if he ever dislocated them. 2. I've also had to limit the use of the front boots as they rub the area around his dew claw raw as they spin around his paws when he tries to get up. The boots would be better if there was some kind of grip inside. I'm sure the sizing is correct. I bought Med. for his back paws and Large for his front. The medium are no better on his front paws.

I had tried the Bark n' Boots before, but my dog doesn't have flat feet (they are high and tightly knuckled) so the closure strap always fell right across my dog's 'wrist' bones in an uncomfortable way. Now the boots are are longer and work much better for my dog. It took a try or two to get the sizing right, but now that they are they are working out wonderfully. I love that I am able to buy the boots individually to accommodate my dog's smaller hind paws too. I have had no trouble at all keeping the boots on since I've had the correct size. I'm very pleased.

That was my first impression (why else would you spend that kind of money on dog boots??), then reality kicked sank in. The boots are impossible to keep on when you don't get the size correct, and when you do, they don't stay on the dog at anything faster than a trot. At a sprint, no matter how tight you cinch them up, you'll see them go flying (if you're lucky) or they'll vanish in the snow. That's right, I tried the Bark'n Boots, then I tried the Polar Trex Winter version. The fit is the same, as is the review.

HUGE improvement over the old style

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is the first pair of boots to actually stay on our dogs feet as they chased us downhill on our mountain bikes. The old style was too short and would fly off when they were running at any speed. The one big downside to these boots was that the strap closed directly over their dewclaws and tore them apart, something that didn't bother them at the time, but made it impossible for us to comfortably put the boots on the next day...A boot that came up slightly higher would fix this for us, as the shorter ones always flew off, thus tearing up their unprotected pads (our dogs have low dewclaws, and use them on a regular basis)

Our beautiful and loyal canine friend had a accident spring 2010. He was paralyzed from the middle to the back. Before he was very sporty dog, we did agility and made long walks (20km). By keeping him calm in his bench for 6 to 7 weeks and carrying him around 4 times a day he return walking again. The only thing is that his back feet touche the flour with his nails. This is the reason he wears ruffwear grip trex shoes on his hind legs. This summer we walked up to 3300 m high to the pass des chevres near Arolla switzerland. You understand that we are (including our dog) very very happy with that. (the only minor point is that the tibetan terrier has flatfoots and the front of the shoe is the first part that is worn down and his nails start to stick out). Still we want to thank Ruffwear for the wonderfull shoes!

I really like these boots! I'm a rock climber and spend a lot of time on hot rocks throughout the summer and my poor dog kept burning her pads. Finally I decided to try these and couldn't be happier. Sometimes one or two of them will twist around after she swims in them but besides that, they stay in place throughout long hikes, climbing and swimming. I have the liners for them but have not tried them on her... maybe that would help to keep them in place while she swims. An added bonus, she looks adorable in them :) Regardless, we love them. THANKS!

I recently bought these boots for my pup cause his front paws would get torn up from running on pavement. He is pretty big dog and I got him the Mediums without knowing how big his paws were. After they were here I measured him to be a size Large, (whoops) but they still fit and never come off. He has been getting a few spots rubbing one on the top of his left toe and another spot which is above where the boots sit so its weird to me that he is getting rubbed there. Overall they do the job though and now we can run without him leaving a trail of blood coming home.

bought for a goofy large footed shep/airdale mix worked but tended to rub him on the toes... BUT worked wonders for our aging yellow lab with traction issues on our hardwood floors for over 1 year! he wore them 24/7 occasionally changing pairs ( we had 4) due to rain etc. no rub sores, ventilation good and gave him many more months of mobility. He clumped around in them until he reached 15 1/2 years of age.

Living in Arizona, our summers are very hot, the sidewalks, sand and rocks can be scorching hot by the afternoon, the mountains have lots of sharp edged lava rock and cactus's are everywhere. Our girl tore up her paw-pads on our first hike and she was laid-up for a week. For us, these boots are a MUST HAVE. They are well made and durable, our pooch did a short "bootie dance" the first time but we immediately took her on a hike, she got used to them quickly and in less than 20 minutes she was walking/running normally with them on. We also got her the boot liners, they are helpful when dry but if she goes into water, remove the liners for the hike back, wet socks can cause blisters too. Just be sure you make them nice and snug and watch to make sure they stay on, esp when hiking in the woods or in mud. Overall, Great product!

We went on our annual camping trip to the dessert this time last year, the weather got the better of our poor pooch, not wanting to put him through the same duress again, we needed a solution and that's when we found the swamp cooler. It was a great success! he was able to be as active as he wanted to, he's a very sociable dog and makes more friends than we do, he was able to be a happy camper and run around with liberty in the heat of the day, a marked improvement from last year's trip. As one of the other customers mentioned it would be good to see a version with a more technological fabric so re-soaking is less frequent, but that's not an imposition in order to keep our dog comfortable in the heat of the dessert sun Thank you Ruffwear, our boy is very happy with his new coat :)

Disappointed

Would you recommend this product?.: No

This is my second pair of these dog boots for my golden retriever. The first set I got was of the old design which I absolutely loved because they stayed on throughout any activity, even hard running, but the boot sat right below the dew claw which was the only con (but it didn't cause my dog any discomfort or issues). I was excited to see when a re-designed boot became available that sat above the dew claw so I ordered them. Unfortunately I am very disappointed in them. The fit is different and the velcro strap actually sits right on the dew claw which puts constant pressure on it and has even caused hair loss. My dog is unable to wear these boots for longer periods of time and for running activities like he was able to in the older design (because of where the velcro strap sits). I wish the old design would become available again because they were overall a better product even though they sat below the dew. The only positive I can say about these boots is that the materials used are still of Ruff Wear top quality but that doesn't exactly matter if my dog can't actually wear them.

Would you recommend this product?.: No

This is our second pair of bark'n boots the first pair was fantastic, but this pair has a very poor fit and does not stay on properly. They are much too tall/long to be secured on a dog's paw. Also, the top mesh does not provide enough ventilation and is too delicate -two shoes have holes after wearing only twice.

Not At All Satisfied

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I can see these boots being great for any dog that is as big or bigger than a collie or boxer. However, they are useless for breeds smaller than that. The problem is that although the widths of the boots are adjusted for size, there is no corresponding adjustment for length of the paw. This creates a fitting issue in that the boot securing straps end up far above the carpal pads on the front paws, making it impossible to secure the boot to the paw. I checked some of these boots at a store near me after I returned the two pairs that I bought from the website here, and sure enough, the boot length difference between the XS and the M boots was minimal. Based on Ruffwear's sizing, my staffordshire should have been an XS, but these came off her front paws within a dozen steps. I then tried the XXS boots I got for my mixed breed on my staffordshire, and these also came off the front paws very quickly. I have other Ruffwear products that perform great and that I love (i.e. Approach pack), but the design of these boots needs a lot of work for the smaller breeds, namely in the length/width ratio.

Bark'n Boots Grip Trex are for people that get out and get things done. These boots come in handy in a variety of ways. Our first set was before they hooked up with Vibram. Back then the sole was like a simple grip tape kind of stuff (still awesome). And now the combined effort of Ruff Wear and Vibram really puts a nice system together. I tend to use these whenever the terrain is going to be tough. If I bring my dogs mountain biking I tend to use these so they don't hurt their feet while running like dogs to keep up. I've also used them while kayaking and they are able to stand on the kayak with traction (before they would just slip all over making them nervous). These have gotten a lot of use over the years.

Bought them because the desert at 100+ degrees has ripped off her pads before.. Last week were climbing a lot of mountains and her back boots kept turning completely upside down so the tops are pretty snagged and a few holes. They don't even come off in the water which is awesome. Can't say enough great things about them !! Thank you :0)

Our dog Taz was diagnosed with Paresis in July 2010. At the time our vet expected Taz to lose his ability to walk (and therefore need to be put to sleep) by Christmas 2010. The vet said that if we can exercise Taz as much as possible, we'd be able to extend the time that he had left. Not long after his diagnosis, Taz became unable to walk outdoors without damaging his rear paws due to the fact that he had begun to shuffle everywhere so after trying and rejecting several different boots, we bought a set of these boots without trying them first. We've never looked back. It's now July 2011 and since we bought these boots, we've walked Taz every day. The boots coped through the coldest winter the United Kingdom has seen in 30 years right through to this summer and I'm happy to report that Taz is still walking and he's just about worn out his set of 4 boots even though he has shuffled in them for the entire time he's walked in them. Whilst his condition is still deteriorating and we don't think we have much longer with him now, I can honestly say that I believe we would have lost Taz months ago if we hadn't been able to exercise him as we have done and we wouldn't have been able to do that without these boots. The boots have allowed us to give Taz some extra months and we have some extra memories that we wouldn't have had without them. For this reason alone, these boots are priceless. I cannot recommend them enough.

We have tile floor so it was difficult for her to get up and down without falling so she didn't move around very much. The shoes have basically saved her life. She can get traction now, we have less problems with her bruising. She gets up and plays with the others now. They have improved her quality of life. I did have a problem in the beginning with the dew claws, but I bought baby socks with grippers on bottom and no problems now. I will diffently buy more. Thank you.

Great functionality and built quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These boots are very good for protecting my Aussie’s paws when we go hiking. They do take some time to break in, so plan on using them gradually with your dog before going on a long hike. In this way you’ll prevent possible hot spots caused by rubbing when the boots are too new. BTW, my Aussie wears size M in the front and XS in the back. I would only recommend these boots for dogs that don’t have dew claws because chances are that dew claws will get in the way and cause all kinds of rubbing issues. The only issue I have is mostly with the boots in the back. My Aussie likes to tackle the trails aggressively when we go hiking, and a lot of tiny rocks and dirt will always get into his back boots. Would be nice if you offered some kind of boot cover to go over the leg and the upper part of the boot to prevent debris from getting inside the boot. Will be looking for these in the future :-).

I recently purchased the Grip Trex boots for our dog due to the hot sidewalks and pavements in Phoenix during the Spring/Summer months. They provide a durable barrier between paws and broken glass, etc. that is often found in the desert landscaping typical of this area. I have purchased other brands before and have not received the quality these boots provide. The tailored fit of the boot allows it to stay in place allowing for greater fit and comfort. I am very pleased with the product!

I have had them for 3 years and she is has just now worn off the tread. I only use them on the front feet. They are perfect for mountain biking as dogs seem to wear their feet pretty good with this activity. Highly recommended!

Ongoing Improvements needed

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Love the tread, but as far as the fit of length and sizing is still far from perfect. My 3yr GSD seems to have long paws and even after waiting for the .5" longer new version smaller sizes it still seems a bit short. The boots still come off with aggressive running and is a disappointment. 2" size barely goes around his front paws only to come off, as stated above. The rear paws aren't quite small enough, but there aren't any smaller sizing to accommodate this. I'm simply dumbfounded that a 3yr old GSD would wear the smallest size boot. Good concept, but still needs reworking and hope the team at Ruff Wear continues to pursue it. My Jacko loves to runs and does these "Burn outs" in the transition from asphalt to grass;he knows I let him run all out on a long stretch of grass, but won't slow down long enough for me to get my bike there.

I purchased these boots because my great danes back paw pads rub raw and start bleeding when we walk any longer than 2 miles. I recommend the liners, they make getting the boots on ALOT easier! In the house he loses them all over the place when he runs around. He would probably loose them if he runs with them outside too. As far as just long casual walks they work great! They stay on and he no longer has bleeding pads! He has front dew claws but his feet are long enough the boots ride about half an inch under them with no rubbing! He wears XL in the front and L in back.

Very beneficial

I have an 8 year old black lab, and within the last year she began having trouble walking on our hardwood floors. It was so bad that she would get trapped in the middle of an open floor, and wouldn't be able to move because she was afraid that her legs would slip out from underneath her. I tried several solutions until I came across these boots. I ordered a pair, put them on her, and they were like magic for her. The boots actually make her a different dog, and when she is not wearing them, she goes back to her old ways. The only downside to the boots is that it doesn't take long for them to begin smelling pretty bad, but you can take care of that in the washing machine. We are on our second pair and I have just ordered another pair. They worked great for my problem and I would highly recommend if your dog has a problem with traction.

I use these boots on my Shepherd mix who is partially paralyzed and knuckles her feet so these boots protect the top of her toes.I realize that this is not the intended purpose of the design but I feel that with a few minor modifications these could be perfect for all the knucklers as well.I have been using these boots for 5 years, they were the only boots that held up for more then a few hours with my dog, this is no exaggeration. You need to get the sizing right or the boot will just spin on your dogs feet and you need to pull the velcro tight, tighter then you think or else they will come off. For a normal walking dog I imagine that these boots will last for a few years for knucklers a few weeks.

LOVE THESE!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have a service dog who was trained in a cold climate. I live in a warm climate. When he was brought to me, he struggled to work on warm (not even hot) blacktop and concrete. When I put on his Bark N' Boots he loves to dance and is so happy to work on blacktop and concrete then. If he doesn't have his boots on, he won't move. So he is a die-hard fan of his boots! I did have to learn to put them on so his boots wouldn't fly off if he was walking, running, or hip-hoppity dancing. On his front paws, I do a check and allow about one finger to tuck in behind the boot. On his back paws, I have to put the boots on really tightly. I don't allow even one finger to tuck in behind his paws because that signals me that the boots will fly off in an instant. Thanks Ruffwear for making my boy happy!

These might work for a leisurely stroll down the road with an overweight pet, but are not suitable for the fast 90 degree turns, slides, and sudden accelleration of a herding dog doing a job. I needed boots to move sheep down a gravel road bed that is known to tear up the feet on the border collies, and within 5 minutes had boots twisting, and flying off. The socks slipped down and bunched up in the toes. Also the 3 day Fedex delivery took 6 days. I don't recommend this product for a working dog that makes quick turns, and I don't recommend Fedex if you are in a hurry!

The new sizing works for me, the old sizing didn't! Molly is 30kg and fits XS on back and S on front. Old sizing due to length had to be M, which meant we didn't use them (waste of money) as too wide for her and tripped over. Same principal for Toby. He's 35kg and fits the new S on the back, and a Medium on the front. So new sizing is great - I just wonder what those smaller dogs are supposed to do.... Dew claws may still be an issue.
