Looks great!
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I, like most here, had issues with the boots staying on. Ordered a small, which she walked right out of before we made it out of the driveway. Got another set we went on a mile hike. three boots came off multiple times. When the boots stay on, they're great. The rest of the time, not so much. Love the great CS at Ruffwear. These need to go back to the drawing board.

Poor fit, especially for smaller breeds.
Would you recommend this product?.: No
These things are great in theory, but are simply useless in practice for small breeds. According to the Ruffwear size chart, my Boston was almost exactly a size XXS. When I threw them on him, I noticed the rear boots actually covered his hock joint on his hind legs, thus making walking virtually impossible for him. Moreover, as other's have said, Ruffwear should offer different sizes for both front and rear legs. Many dogs have much bigger paws on their front legs! Anyway, again, great idea, terrible design. And completely not worth the money.

In principle these boots are useless but perfect made
Would you recommend this product?.: No
From the esthetic point of view these boots are great.
But!: 1) on icy places the dog is sliding, and it is fraught with sprain;
2) when we came back home boots were completely wet - it must be waterproof;
3) This is our first experience with Ruffwear and I didn't pay attention at once that dog's front paws are wider than the back ones. Both of my dogs have at least 1 size difference (according to Ruffwear's measure scale) between front and back paws. Of course it's better to offer 2 different sizes of boots in packing.

Needs some tweaking
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I think we've finally figured out that the best way to get them really tight, is to keep the leg straight and cinch it right up. Then let them put their foot down. And they have to be REALLY TIGHT or they WILL NOT stay on. I really can't tell if they're pinching the dogs or not, but, we went for a 10 mile run this weekend, on leashes, and they stayed put and I didn't have any complaints from the pups. Took a lot of trial and error. And even with them tight, if they want to kick them off, they can. I think these boots really need some adjustments for the price being charged. Especially the tightening buckle. Shouldn't be such a challenge for both the dogs and humans.

Great Product, Needs A Bit More Work
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
These shoes are great, but there needs to be a bit more work in some areas. I think these shoes should have a built-in liner instead of needing to buy the liners, which can sip off easily within the boot. Pulling the buckles or top elastic bands too tight can cause chafing with or without the boot liners, and if they're too loose the boot will slip right off.
It's tough to make boots that are one size fit all - even with the very specific measurements for this boot. The paw width is fine, it's just tough to get them on and adjusted just right so they won't slip off or chafe.
I may try to add my own gaiter-length fleece lining to them to prevent chaffing and to allow me to tighten them to the point where they won't slip off- they're still a great boot if you can get them to stay on!

The boots are very well designed and I believ they are made of an excellent material in regards to gear and water/snow proofing protection. Unfortunately the buckle and the top closure are made of plastic and a large dog (but polite) can byte them without difficulties and harm the functionality and you risk to find yourself only with a pair of boots instead of 4.

I have a pair of the original boots for one of my cockers, which work great. These need a better design to secure around the back of dog's paw; they kept slipping off so that my dog would trip. I tried it with the socks and without, didn't matter. I expected better from RuffWear, these are not worth it.

Great
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I read the poor reviews and emailed Ruffwear to see if they had redesigned the boot. They said they had done a redesign so I got 4 boots for my dog. I needed to get smaller boots for her rear paws. They worked great the first 3 mile walk we went on in very dry snow. I had problems with the velcro on her previous boots losing grip as snow built up on them. The second trip was in wetter snow and one of her rear boots came loose. I noticed it had the old buckle style on it. I returned it and got the new buckle style and have not had a problem since. That confirmed to me that the redesign works better. It is important to tighten the straps tightly and the elastic strap tight on the top also. Many people have asked me what kind of boots they are because they have not been able to keep boots on their dogs. My dog is a springer spaniel and loves the snow. She really rips around playing with other dogs and the boots are staying on her. She had problems with snow balling up and her paws before getting the boots and the boots prevent that. I have walked over 20 miles in snow since getting the boots a week ago and my dog probably doubled that distance.

Ive been looking for winter boots that would give decent grip on ice and snow but have some durability for long sections of cleared sidewalk and these look like they fit the bill. Unfortunately they don't fit. My mutts toes are too long and the webbing strap tightens across the pad of his feet. The next size up is just too wide. Too bad!

I love the overall design and sturdiness of the boot itself, but with an active giant breed, the two seperate devices used to cinch and tighten the boot are very flimsy in my opinion. Wish they had the same sturdy velcro as the Bark n Boots Grip Trex or just strengthen what's already on them.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
so i bought this product casue i going snowshoeing a lot in the rockies. in calgary i was trianing her to get use to the boot anything seemed to fit, except for the top part of the boot was not tight enough at all, no matter how much i tryed to tens up the line. so naturally when i went out the the rockies. not even 1 k in the hike three of her boots came off after she was chasing another dog. i like the concept and overall idea of the product. but if you could put the same buckle you have on the base of the boot on the top part as well it would have helped a lot in that situation.

We have the Grid Trex boots for summer hiking and they work great. However the winter Polar Trex do not stay on my dogs back feet very well, even with the socks added. I really have to tighten it up and usually one always comes off during an hour run in the snow.
It would be great it you could buy the boots in pairs instead of a set of four since most dogs seem to have smaller back feet. I think my issues would be solved if I could have bought the medium size for the front feet and small for the back. We'll keep using them but I'll just have to watch for fallen boots.

Best Boot on the Market!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Been trying boots for years, all brands etc and never found one that was well-made, effective and gave my dog the confidence to romp through the snow and feel warm. (She loves snow and purposely goes through snow banks rather than walking on the paths or sidewalk).
An added bonus is the sole that allows us to walk the streets even with the heavy salt and slush with no worries.
We get stopped at least once a day with people asking about these boots and all too willing to tell them they are totally worth the money. My other dog wears another brand that are good but to my mind the Polar Trex are the ones to buy.
NEVER slip off even when she is going full tilt in the deep snow (+15cm) which with most boots so far is the real test.
As to people saying they slip off and are too big cannot comment on that, but my impression is wear the liner socks it makes them slip on easily and to my mind prevents the boot from causing friction on the foot and therefore stays on. This plus ensure you have them adjusted properly and they will not move.
They wash up easily as well and this is an added plus to me.

Great for protecting old injury
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
My dog partially tore the nerves of one front leg. For five years she has had 30% use of the injured leg, mostly using it for swimming, holding toys down, and catching her balance. I had tried many splints and braces over the years for her, but they were all to stiff or bulky for her to wear everyday. About three months ago we found out about ruffwear boots and decided to give them a try. My dogs use of her bad leg has increased to about 60%! These boots have just enough support and protection to help her learn to trust her bad leg again. The only problem I have had with these boots is that they do tend to slip off when she is running hard.

Works for us.
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Hi. We did have to return the two back boots for a smaller size however the front boots fit fine and once he forgets he has them on he really puts them through hell and they stay on. His back feet are a size smaller. I had to get a size bigger sock as they were too tight and I couldn't return them because they were had been used once so that was a disappointment. I thought the boots would be taller than they are. We really need them for the icy slush that bothers Rocko's feet. I think he would prefer not to wear them however he seems to be determined not to let them slow him down and from the way he runs around and jumps into the air they haven't. So overall I am pleased with them.

Well made

I was surprised at the size that my 60 lb dog measured out to be (XS) and considered ordering up thinking that I must have mismeasured. Fortunately I followed the instructions because the XS fits fine. I'm told that some breeds just have smaller feet. Go figure! The boot seems really well made and has a great sole for walking in snow/ice. The last boots we wore lasted a season and the soles are not as nice and the velcro only lasted a year. This set looks like it is made more sturdy. The upper strap also closes well around the dogs leg. I hope that it will prevent the snow from getting down into the boot which was also a problem with our last boots. The picture of the boot on line made me think the leg part of the boot came up higher, but they don't. While we have not used them in snow yet, I'm looking forward to it. They seem like they will be a higher quality, longer lasting product than what we have used in the past.

I bought these boots for my dog, for when it gets really cold and snowy in the Yukon, but like a lot of other commenters have said, they slide off. I got the measurements right, but the boots are way too big and won't stay on. I think my dog would need to go at least two sizes down for the boots to fit properly. Unfortunately I'm in Canada and bought the boots via Backcountry-K9 via a detour (Backcountry K9 doesn't ship Ruffwear outside the US so I had to use Shipito), so I can't return them. I'm hoping I can swap them with someone else, but I'm afraid this was another $89.95 down the drain...

Wonderful product. Easy to put on and take off. Took a minute for her to walk correctly (high stepping at first) but now she runs and it doesn't seem to bother her. Had one fly off...but I didn't secure it tight enough. So far so good...and she loves em! No more snow clumps in between her paws. She weighs 85 lbs and wears a medium. The size chart is accurate. Had her step on the box to see...THAT was harder than putting the boots on!

Better than other boots!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
We snowshoe with Frodo, and bootless, he always gets snowballs between his toes and rips them off, causing bleeding and days of discomfort afterward. We used to have Muttluks, which I liked enough, though they were always falling off. Frodo hated them, and high-stepped the entire time while wearing them. I accidentally packed them away wet last year and they moulded over, so I had to throw them out and look for new boots. We'd admired the Grip Trex and bought those, but they were not intended for deep snow! Our first trip out, and even with the liners Frodo got three off within 10 meters of the car, and ultimately lost one. We replaced it but we will save those to try out on our summer hikes. We then got the Polar Trex on-line from Gear4Dogs and we love them! We did a lot of travelling over deep snow this winter. Sadly though we didn't sink, Frodo DID (I couldn't imagine snowshoes for dogs!) and the boots came up with him every time! Don't get me wrong, they slid a bit and we readjusted them three times on a two hour trek, but that has to be expected considering the shape of our dog's feet. The point is they didn't get lost in the snow, they kept his feet warm and dry, and though he balked when we first put them on, once he got out on the trail he forgot about them and got busy sniffing and running! They did their job protecting his feet and we didn't lose one. And with the mesh carry bag, I don't have to worry about them moulding. Great boots. Thanks!

GREAT!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
These boots seem to be getting a lot of slack - personally we love them. Perhaps they stay on better because our Wheaten has longer hair, but we've only had a few experiences of the boots falling off - and that's because we didn't tighten them enough. We really snug up the 'foot part' and moderately snug up the elastic at the top. We trudge through deep powdery snow and never have problems! He's wearing the small size which works perfectly for us. Great for keeping his feet clean (we use them in the rain too) and free of packed snow. GREAT boots.

gets the job done
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
While our two greyhounds still need to get used to the idea of boots on their feet... they acclimated to them rather quickly. Only a few moments of walking around the house like they were stepping in molasses and once outside they were fine. To test these out yesterday, we headed out onto our snow-covered lake, a "nice" sunny, 20-degree day. Only one boot came completely off when our larger greyhound miss-stepped into a chunk of deep, icy snow. And one boot kept slipping a little bit on our smaller greyhound so we readjusted as we went along. We used the boot liners which may have been the issue for her; took it off that one foot and it seemed to stay in place better after that.
Our dogs aren't huge but they're still 65 and 75 lbs. We bought the XS boots for them. Had originally bought the small boots for our larger greyhound and they were too big. We exchanged them through the mail with no problem at all!
Thanks Ruffwear!

Would you recommend this product?.: No
My pup gets ice and snow stuck in his paws which is very uncomfortable for him and severely limits our time on winter trails. We've tried other boots but the deep snow sneaks in through the top so I thought these would be perfect. The XXSs will not stay on my 45lb dog though, even though his paw measurements are exactly right. I've tried to take up more room with socks but nothing seems to keep them on, even when cinched down all the way. I wish they worked but they do not... That said - Ruff Wear does have excellent customer service and products and I will certainly remain a customer.

Very Well Made
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
These boots are beautifully made! But my dog has different paws than other breeds. Her paws are really narrow, so even though I tightened them up as much as possible, they came off in 10 sec. These were the smallest size too. I am sure these would probably work with a larger breed. It's just like people - they need to try them on to see if the shoe fits.

Very good Boot
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Both pups are about 70lbs each and the small size fits both well. We are roughly two weeks into the trial period and the dogs are adapting to the "feel" of the boots well. We apply them relatively tightly and they have stayed on both dogs during our fast runs (I am on a bike and we get going pretty fast). I only wish they could tell me if they are on too tight. Well, they don't favor their gate, and after the runs they don't lick or tend to the paws as they did in the snow and salt... Sooo, all is good.

Gunny and Kaiser are avalanche rescue dogs and I wanted the boots to (1) keep ice out from their pads, and (2) protect their legs from ski cuts. The boots appeared to be just what I wanted but, despite measuring both dogs and ordering the corresponding sizes, the boots were too large. I plan to try again with smaller sizes.

Fair at best
Would you recommend this product?.: No
The product is constructed very well. It will not ware fast. First let me explain why we purchased the boots. Our dog is a Puli which is a long hair breed. Because of the long hair she gets very wet legs when walking in the winter. Being a white, she gets dirty very easily. So we figured that these boots would cure these problems. The problems we have with the boots are two fold. First from the pictures it appeared that the boots would go high up on the dogs leg, they don't. Second the boots don't stay on well. They stay on as long as the dog is walking, as soon as the dog runs they're flying off.

Tough to use when the won't stay on
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Went for three walks so far. First one, he blew all four off. Put them back on, he blew them off again. Put them on, back two stayed on, front two went flying,
Second walk. Really strapped them down, blew the front two just as we were getting to the park. Put them back on, and he blew one of them off within 30 feet.
Third walk, blew both front ones off. Didn't waste my time putting them back on.
Not really happy with the product. Looks great, doesn't do what it is supposed to.
I see why they sell single ones now.
They tell me I have to actually give them a star. I don't want to, but this won't get posted without it. So there you go.

Absolutely Perfect!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
We bought these boots for our incredibly active 11 year old vizsla. He had to have surgery on one of his feet in rainy, muddy, Seattle November. Putting a vizsla on bed rest is simply not possible so we had to find a way to keep his foot clean and dry while it healed. These boots were absolutely perfect!
The sizing was somewhat deceptive for me due to the size and shape of a vizsla's foot - an extra small for a 60 pound dog?? Yup. We ordered the medium first and had to trade them out for the extra smalls and there were no hassles whatsoever.
Our dog is a perpetual motion machine so we had to make constant checks and periodic adjustments to the fit of the boots as he ran around but it was both to be expected and not at all a big deal.
I love Ruff Wear and have been buying products from them since they first started making products and will continue to be a loyal customer.

The boots are well made - but perhaps should have been designed by the dog instead of the humans. They do not fit the contour of the leg very well. As a result, it is difficult to keep them on in deep snow - even with frequent adjustments and tightening. The best judge is my dog - she has worn snow boots before, so there is a degree of familiarity with the product. She was not comfortable using these; I was not comfortable with retrieving them in deep snow when they wouldn't stay on. The cost is steep for the product. I had high hopes that it would be a case of "you get what you pay for". Unfortunately they did not come close to the hype.

great boot but runs large
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
These boots are great, however, these boots run large. I previously purchased the Grip Trex in an XXS and they were a perfect fit. The XXS Polar Trex measured about 3 inches across corresponding with a "Large" - maybe this is an error in manufacturing/labeling - either way the boots are going back. I would recommend these boots if you can get the perfect fit for your dog.

The polar trex boots did not work out the way it showed in the video ! Even before I could put them on my dog , one of the boot's E CORD snapped and broke !! I used a pin to secure it in order to use it . However , all four boots came off one by one just after about 5 minutes walking/running !! I followed the size chart in their website to order the boots . Therefore , they can't use ' wrong size ' as excuse to get away with responsibility ! This product is not durable and comes off too fast , contrary to what Ruff Wear claims ! Another naked truth about high price tag product does not necessarily mean good quality and durability ! So frustrating !

Sleek, won't stay on
Would you recommend this product?.: No
We've been wearing short boots for a year, and they are great. They stay on if you strap them tight, even with a lot of running in tall grass and deep snow. I was super excited when new tall boots became available. But I was disappointed. They won't stay on, no matter how tight I strap them. And they are really sleek on snow and ice, even though they are advertised as winter boots for snow. My dog is afraid to jump out of the car or run down the steps in this boots.
They would be ok if your dog only walks on a leash, I guess. If you let him run, they are useless.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Boots go on easier with socks and are more accomodating of long hair.
However they still come off, possibly because I bought a large when a medium might have been better.
Also the strap clamp does loosen as others have said and the top elastic strap pulled out of the hem, both quality issues atypical of Ruff Wear.
I probably will do some redesign of the straps.

I was skeptical to purchase since I have tried the grip trex boots and could not get those to stay on my dog but I had to try this awesome looking product. It's a great design and I was super excited for them to work HOWEVER, as indicated by other posts, the clasp is PLASTIC teeth that do not grip the strap. They came off within 30 seconds of walking. If you take the boot and gently pull on the clasp/strap system, you can loosen by hand. Lame.

Maybe it's Black Labs (80#), but Pepper fussed a little with having boots on for the freezing, icey temps here in Chicago. The front boots stayed on longer than the back ones. She somehow finds a way to kick them off within seconds of starting our walk. I'm hoping that with some more training, she'll learn to walk in them correctly instead of trying to kick them off. Wish us luck!
We are rating the product lower for this breed, but the company is GREAT!

These are the best dog boots I have ever used, their quality and design is outstanding in everyway.
Have been running, walking and trail breaking with great protection from my ski edges and the "razor ice" trails.
My dog loves them now, the first time out with them on was a little "club footed" stopping and fussing with them.
Now she stands ready and willing to have them put on everytime we go out and never fusses with them unless ice has gotten down the top.
The combo of mushers wax on the pads and these boots is unbeatable grip and comfort for her.

We love it
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
We got quite a lot of snow this winter - and again Dennis the miniature schnauzer had problems with lumps of ice between his pads. Solution - I bought him a set of Polar Trex.
On our first walk with theese boots, I started out by giving him boots on the front paws - just to give him a chance to get accustomed to the feeling. Half way through our walk I gave him boots on his back paws. For the first time ever he roamed around in the snow! just like our lab. mix does.
There is a little trick to theese boots! The boots are to high for his back legs - but if I turn the top of the boots down like a collar - they fit - AND they stay on! That is the trick - never let the boots curl like they do on the dog in the image for this product - they have to be straigt and they will stay on in powder snow - packed snow and on the sidewalk.
For our lab. mix I have a set of Grib Trex ready if they should be needed!

I recently purchased a set of the Polar Trex boots for my service dog in-training. Since the bulk of Jess' training will be done this winter, I knew I needed to find a quality set of boots for her to work in due to all the sand and salt they put on the roads and sidewalks here in MA during the winter. The first training outing I took Jess on, I realized that the boots on her back feet were too large and I kept having to readjust them. When I called your company to see about getting 2 smaller ones, I was 100% impressed by your policy to allow customers to return the ones that didn't fit and replace them with a smaller size at no added charge. Jess' new extra small boots for her backfeet are on their way to me now as her medium size front ones continue to work well. I also really like the reflective on the boots, and my dog doesn't mind wearing them at all. I now wish I had gotten RuffWear boots for my 1st service dog as these are a significantly better quality and make product than the boots he used to wear. I will be highly recommending your products to others.

Just bought these boots yesterday. I've taken my dog on two walks now, and she has been able to slip all of them off each time. I am sure these are fine if you want to walk your dog on a leash, however when I let my dog run loose she is able to slip them off quickly. The fault is in the buckle. I can easily loosen them with the buckle in the closed position. If you have an active dog such as mine, it is just a matter of time before it loosens.

I have a pair of the Grip Tex boots and love them. I was excited to see these winter boots this year. Using them for our treks ski jouring and snow shoeing. Because we compete in dog sports it's very important to keep my dogs paws and pads protected in both winter and summer. And contrary to other opinions most sled dogs DO wear boots.
Our time spent outside in our new 20 ++ inches of powder is more enjoyable!!!
And the fit - my 48lb. Golden is wearing an XXS - so be careful to size them right. They will fall off if they're too big for your dogs paws.

I wish I could love these boots because they look so well-designed. But I put them on my Lab last night to go hike in our first snowfall of the season and within 2 minutes of his playful romping, the back 2 flew off into the snow, with the front ones following shortly thereafter. We tightened them as much as we could (we got a Large because his front paws are extremely wide)-- not sure if we should have bought a medium? His back paws are normal sized, but his front paws would probably be too big for Medium.

Not all dogs are created equal. They may be built for the outdoors but not every breed is built for a winter climate. Nor were there pads designed for frozen sidewalks. I love this product and so does my dog!

Love the water proof, higher cuff on this boot. Patton is big boy and he wears the XL size. We would take an XXL if they made one since the XL is a little snug :) Much better than the other designs - i still find that it the cuff tends to slide down his leg and lets the boot slip off after a mile of jogging unless it is super tight. Maybe a velcro top with the elastic would help.

GREAT BOOT but sizing was off for my dog
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
This boot is tougher than I've EVER seen in any other dog boot. And I like the lack of Velcro! Hopefully that will help this boot to last longer then others. :) My Border Collie's front paws are bigger than her back paws, so we ordered the Small for her front paws and the XSmall (or XXSmall ?) for her back paws. The boots (with the liners that we bought after the first realization that the front boots don't fit) are a dream on her back paws. She seems to really like them. However, the front boots keep bunching up at the bottom and then pulling off. This causes her to stumble and limp. So I have to take them off while we're in the middle of a hike. As previously stated, we have tried the liners but the front boots are just too big for her. She measured 2.5" across her front paws but they just don't fit. We're trying again with the XSmall to see if we can get this to work. When they stay on her paws, they really do protect her from the rocky terrain and spiky, unforgiving plants. I look forward to testing out the smaller size and then letting her run in the snow later in the season. :) RuffWear is really great! I just have to get the right size for her paws.
