I LOVE the Float Coats! They give my dogs so much confidence in the water and me peace of mind when they are jumping into the deep end of a swimming pool or we are kayaking in choppy water. They fit amazing too!!!

Awesome jacket, best fitting, flotation, keeps my dog safe from bigger dogs at the park too. One problem the red dye runs and my white jack is now a permanent REDNECK. The Handle has saved his butt too many times. Luv this jacket!!!!!

Was true to fit and worked great for our Black Lab. At first he didnt know what it was when we tried it on in the house when it arrived, but once in the water with it, he was swimming into much deeper water than he normally would. Great product!

Love this product times 2 since we got one for each of our GSDs. They didn't know what to think about it at first but once they hit the water and realized what it was for they love it and love to swim in them.

Bought it for my boston, and it works great! Gives me the peace of mind that he'll be ok in the water if our canoe tips over. And it works great for him to retrieve toys from deeper water. Waiting for our puppy to grow so she can get hers too.

I spend lots of time swimming in a lake but I have seizures so my Mom bought this to keep me safe. I am a big boy, 98 lbs, but my jacket fits great. I like the color too because everyone can see me better and I love attention. Mom and I think this is a wonderful and affordable jacket that will last a long time.

Have a very small dog, was concerned about the fit and ergonomics of this jacket on him but he didn't even seem to notice he was wearing anything!

We needed a preserver for our recently rescued, 48 pound, English Bulldog and the medium Float Coat fits him perfectly. He is able to move around well, it keeps his head above water and he loved his first trip to the lake in Maine!

We own one for our 7 year old female and just purchased one for our 18 month old. It supported his rear for a while to teach him to use his rear legs more. It is good quality!

Love the product but the sizing was off by quite a bit. My dog measured for a small but it was much to small. Could not even do it up around her neck.

My Aussie and I do SAR work including body recovery from water. This is a solid jacket for water work not just play.

Our 75 lb Lab is recovering from TPLO surgery (6.5 weeks out), and we bought this for water therapy which we started this week. She LOVES it, and we do, too. It makes much less work of swimming, helps her keep her head out of the water, and doesn't seem to shift around or float up above her. Can't comment on "hot spots" as she's only used it once, but I'm so glad we have it and don't anticipate a problem because of the snug fit (Lg).

After my son bought his dog 2 other brand life vests that failed with each first use due to torn seams and fraying material, I did some research online and found the Big Eddy Life Vest and ordered it from one of your retailers. It has been the product we've been looking for. Far exceeded our expectations after a handful of uses in our pond and chasing after balls for hours. It looks as new as it did the day it arrived on the doorstep. It was easy and quick to adjust, the sizing was perfect, and "Julio" doesn't seem to notice he has it on. My son says "its built like a tank" and I have to agree. Thank you Ruff Wear for making a quality product!

Have one Airedale in rehab (Josie Wales) recovering from elbow surgery,and requires swimming every day. I can feel confident that she is safe and her legs do not get any more weight bearing than they can take. The other guy (Captain Morgan) just floats as if he can stay in the water forever. Great for the boat on Lake Mead. I don't worry about losing track of them on the shore. I was exposed to this product at the rehab center in LV. Dogs from all over the country come here for surgery. These dogs are 16 and 19 months respectively. Thanks for a great product

Did a great job at keeping dog a float, although gave both of our dogs MEGA hotspots due to rubbing of the jacket under their front legs. They also got hotspots on either side of their chest by their breastbone. Although...gave the dogs wonderful confidence to swim. We no longer use it since they now can swim on their own

Our lab is a great swimmer, but as much as I hate to say it, she is not as good as she once was in rougher water. Raven is 6 years old and loves the water with a passion! We take her when we go deep water soloing and she/we can stay out much longer now that she has her Big Eddy Float Coat! With much less worry to her Mom! She definitely has the Lab loyalty and wont go to shore without me so this is a lifesaver!

Big Eddy Float Coat is a life saver. I'm not sure this was the name back when I bought mine, I only remember one option. But let me just say that my dog loves, LOVES to fetch. In fact the only thing better than playing fetch is playing fetch in the water. She'll play and play and play until all of a sudden she just can't. We'd go out and play fetch from the kayak. She'd jump off the kayak and swim after the Hover Craft and bring it back repeatedly until she's completely zonked on energy. I never had to worry about her drowning because of this vest (she also knew she had it on and could rely on it to assist her). Another benefit I didn't realize until I had it was the handle, this is no small feature. This allows me to pick up my dogs straight out of the water and into the kayak when she's completely out of energy and can't do this on her own. Love this product.

My 1.5 yr old rottweiler loves to play in the water, but lacked the confidence to go in water where he could not touch. When he has the jacket it on he does not want to leave the water at all.

My little guy LOVES his coat, and will be sporting it on all our summer trips to the river. He doesn't typically like to be in the water so much, but after donning his sport pfd, he's chosen to stay in for a while after slipping off the kayak. Very exciting to watch a water-shy terrier brave the choppy sections and test his meddle in the drink.

have had other life vests, this one is supreme in quality. may cost more but worth it if you love your dog. excellent for my 50lb english bulldog. she enjoys wearing it.

Oscar our dobe mix fell off our swim platform while we were docked at the marina and he wasn't wearing his old vest because it's not comfortable, with no handle to pull our 85lb dog out of 12 feet of water we knew we needed to find a solution and that's when I found the Big Eddy Float Coat. The quality of this coat is superior to any coat I've seen, (I did a LOT of research) the shoulders are cut out for comfort and ease of movement and the red was very smart looking. Unfortunately although Oscar's measurments fell within the guidlines of the sizing chart the Large was too small and I had to return it : -( However we have been very happy with the XL Portage Coat. I wish they made the Big Eddy coat in XL - I don't know why they dont? I now plan to buy the Big Eddy coat for my mini schnauzer.

We took our 1 year old lab mix on puppy's first canoe trip this weekend. The river was several feet above what we were used to on that stretch and we ran into trouble where we least expected it. We were all struggling in the water for several minutes and, while panicked, our dog was in little serious danger thanks to the floatation provided by this life jacket. Thanks to this life jacket, our dog made it safely to shore with us in a strong current. Additionally, the handle provided a nice place to tie a strip of wet towel for a make-shift leash as we hiked downriver to where our canoe and other various gear ended up. I have little doubt that our day would have ended much worse without this life jacket.

Waited a while to have these delivered so dissapointed. Both my dogs have harnesses from RW and coats and they wear an XS in all the products. So I ordered 2 XS in the BEFC.. They are so small, they do not do up under their tummies and the neck hole is tiny. Pretty annoyed I am going to have to pay return shipping then have them shipped again because the sizing is so out.

This is fantastic!! My dog loves water but is a horrible swimmer!! She has been much more daring when it comes to deep water now. It fits great and helps me keep an eye on her since it is bright yellow. I also take her rafting and shredding quite often and it works great all day long and floats her like a champ!

I ordered the medium for my 13 month old Pointer and it fits him perfectly. It's not too bulky and there is plenty of room for adjustment if he grows. I love the fact that this coat is not big, bulky, and awkward. We've tried life jackets from other companies and none of them have worked as nicely as this coat. Well worth the money! I'm very happy with the yellow coat, as it's so easy to see. After only a few days using the coat, my dog is learning how to swim instead of sink. Now he doesn't want to get out of the water! Great product, as always!

True to size. I tried the M and L, since I was concerned about chaffing or comfort with the gap in jacket at sternum with the M. The large was too bulky and long for range of motion. Bought the medium and found that it was the perfect fit! It was on sale at REI. The dog I bought it for is a great swimmer in calm water. Having never had her on the river, and an unfamiliar river at that, I wanted to ensure she would stay afloat in rapids. Within the 1st mile on South Fork (Shenandoah River) we hit some Class 2 rapids on a very full river (lots of spring rain). She jumped ship in the first 3 yrds of about 30 yrds of rapids. I looked back to see her paddling her heart out (and a little freaked out), but thankfully VERY high in the water due to the jacket. Since I was down river from her I was able to guide her back to shore in calmer water. A 55 lbs dog is too heavy to lift into a kayak without tipping. Once on land she shook herself off and investigated land like nothing tramatic just happened. I have a feeling that without the coat, she would have taken a few dips under swells, hit a few rocks/trees and been exhausted and fearful after the event. When it was time to load up and head back on the water, she was a great sport and jumped right back in the kayak. Further down the river we tipped trying to retreive another person's belongings after they tipped up river. As the kayak flipped upside down, we were both still in the kayak. I pulled her out with my legs, since she was sitting between them and the jacket popped her right up. She was great! Also plan to trail her behind me in the jacket on my open water swims far from shore.

My little girl loves the water, but she's getting older and I could tell she was having some trouble, so I measured her and bought the Big Eddy Float Coat. She's able to stay in the water longer without having to try so hard keeping herself going. One of the reviewers here made a comment about the only problem being to get his dog to come back! Well... with this floatation coat doing so well, I too discovered she just wanted to keep going and going and... I bought some floating, nylon rope to address the problem. I bought 100 feet of it thinking I'd never need that much... but it turns out I did. She actually went out so far, swimming after geese and ducks (which will never, ever let her catch them), that she literally "reached the end of her rope." Anyway, just be forewarned this garment might do its job so well that you'll have to invest in some rope. I can say that things have been going well since she's been swimming with the Float Coat, she's lost some weight, she's getting plenty of no-impact exercise (she has some arthritis, as do I), and I feel MUCH better about her not drowning, or struggling to get back to shore, if she gets out quite a distance. I rarely ever write reviews, but this product certainly deserves a good one from me!

I bought this for my Boston Terrier who LOVES swimming after toys in the lake and riding up front in the kayak, but can not always swim as well as he'd liked. This jacket made a huge difference and he can almost out swim the German Shepard! I'm taking all the dogs to the Ocean this August and feel great about buying the Big Eddy for the rough waters. I bought the Small which is a little big around the girth, but doesn't restrict his movement.

We were excited to get such a great quality jacket. The minimum girth was right on & snugged up great. But, the length of the small did not allow either dog to move his/her hind legs forward at all. Both fell when trying to walk. We'll try the portage, but knowing the length would help in fitting dogs between sizes.

This life vest is great for my 55# 11 YO swimmer. Keeps him high in the water and he is much more comfortable swimming, stays out as long as he wants and never struggles with it on. Handle is great to pull him back in the boat. He usually doesn't like anything on him and this doesn't bother him at all. Works well as a training device to keep him out of the home pool too, when the vest goes on it is time to swim, when it is off, no swimming. He's psyched whenever we get it out.

This is a great life jacket. I use it on my 6 y.o. GSP, as she has severe hip dysplasia. She had completely quit swimming because of the pain, but now with her float coat she is back out in the water! The only comment is that although it fits her perfectly in the ribs and back, the velcro neck strap does not fit properly around her chest. Thankfully there is a buckle back-up for that. She is a deep- and narrow-chested dog.

I haven't had the chance to take the dog out on the water with the life vest on, but it fits nicely and is very well made. The dog isn't thrilled with it, but she barely tolerates wearing a collar. But I think she was bummed when I took it off of her as she really wanted to do some water work (she's a human remains detection dog).

This was the first Ruffwear product I ever owned. I bought my first one at least 12 years ago, and I was given another one for finding a drowning victim on a search. They are extemely durable, and fit my Goldens perfectly. Although my dogs are great swimmers, it allows them to stay in the water forever, and it is easy to pull them back into the boat. It's the perfect vest for a water dog!

Overall a nice product. My dog wears it for safety working around golf courses and geese. The float material is thick enough to ward off the occasional goose peck and easily keeps him afloat in the water. It could use a D ring at the back of the handle to attach a clip or lead. Ruffwear should also include a warning that your dog is not going to want to get out of the water.

GREAT HIGH QUALITY LIFE JACKET. DOUBLES NICELY AS A LIFTING HARNESS FOR OUR DOG WHO HAS A BAD BACK AND CAN NOT BE LIFTED EASILY WITH HANDS. I WILL BE PURCHASING A SECOND COAT FOR OUR OTHER DOG.

We have two labs that use the Big Eddy Float Coat and we couldn't be happier with the product. Its a great fit, sturdy enough we can lift our 85+ dogs out of the water with no problem, and looks as good as the day we bought it after months of use. Very happy customer!

Our aussie loves this life jacket. He is used to wearing gear so he never really bothers with it. The best part is that it keeps him slightly higher in the water so that the water stays out of him mouth. We play fetch for hours with the hydroplane. We have also taken it on canoe trips just as a safety precaution since shore can be pretty far away sometimes.

My 47lb pittie girl had never been swimming before because she floats like a brick in the water. I can't say she had FUN exactly, but the jacket floated her like a charm, and she swam with gusto (toward shore asap!). It fits her great and she does not mind wearing it at all. Soon she'll be an avid water dog, I know it!

My dog has always enjoyed the water, but because we live by the ocean he was always too afraid to get in and swim (the waves are too big for a little guy). We took him to the Sacramento river and gave him the float coat for extra safety (in case he didn't have the instincts to swim). He loved swiming in the river and the handle made it very easy to pull him back up onto our boat. We love the float coat!!

I bought this coat for our search / Avalanche dog thinking that this would be one of those things you buy and never use. However, first time out I found it was absolutely great. It would float her properly and made it so she could swim 5 times as far with much less effort and exertion. It also was grew for me as I could swim with having to constantly be worried about her getting exhausted or running into trouble in the ocean. Great piece of mind. Plus, the strap makes in simple to pull her into a kayak or paddle board. We use it overtime we go to the ocean.... we love it... thanks for a great product! Wish that you made a waterproof light beacon for night use.

grab handle could be a big bigger for larger hands to grab as dog floats out of raft but the flotation is excellent

I have an older version of the Float Coat that still looks and works like new. I first bought the coat for safety reasons. But now it has an added function. My Lab has Degenerative Myelopathy. It causes hindend weakness leading to total paralyzes of the rear of the dog. My dog is at the weakness and instability stage. Swimming is an excellent therapy for this problem. So he wears his coat in the river where he swims in place for exercise. The coat takes the weight off of him making it possible for him to swim. Thank you for making another great product.

Float coat saved our Beagle when we sunk a drift boat in high fast river water...he wouldn't have been able to swim to shore by himself. The handle made it easy to grab and hold onto him to get to shore also.

This is the second one we have bought for him. Very durable, lasted 3 swimming seasons.

Enzo taught himself how to swim while wearing this. It gave him the confidence to actually jump in, instead of walking in.

Since I can't get my dog out of the water, the vest keeps my mind at ease knowing that when (or if) he gets tired, he'll make it back to shore.

We've had larger versions for our dearly departed dogs, but needed a new one for our "little" girl. We knew that we'd be ordering from Ruffwear as we've tried others, but this is the only really good lifejacket available. Also, I recommended this jacket to a friend who was looking. Sizing was off - although I measured the chest girth accurately, the rest of the vest was too small. So I returned the vest and went with another brand. Providing additional measurements would help.

I bought this coat so I could protect my newf on the water. She's a strong swimmer and does rescue work, but for the middle of the Sound, I don't want to worry if she goes overboard. It looks good, fits great, and like all Ruffwear products, is constructed to last. Thanks Ruffwear!

The jacket fits our 65lb girl perfectly! I think she's taking time getting used to it, but it works very well! We feel at ease knowing Bella is safe.

I ordered one of these coats for one of my dogs several years ago. It has out-lasted three jackets for my second dog. I don't know why I waited to order one for my second dog, but now I am. We have tried various types of dog life jackets. There is no comparison. These are truly the best.

Although I have not used it yet, I am very impressed of it. It is built rugged, so I know it will last and nicely padded. I have checked Petsmart and PEtco and their jackets seem thinner and less buoyant. I do have two comments that do not affect my overall reaction to the item. Once, Outward hound's, by kygen, has extra padding up front where it closes on the neck to help keep the mouth up more. Their overall quality lacks though but I found that nice to have. As a second, It would be great to have an attachment to extend the neck area. I have a 110lb german shepherd with a huge neck. She is of appropriate weight and I bought the size recommended by the sizing chart but the neck was too tight on her. I did try 3 other brands I found the same issue, my dog just has a big neck. I had to get some high grade fabric to match the jacket and made my own floatable attachment to extend its reach. I know dogs with big necks are a minority but keep this in mind when buying. As for my corgi's jackets, she loves it and looks adorable in it. I can't wait for the weather to warm up to go to our local water spots.

Got the Big Eddy for my 65ish LB Lab mix, she is an awesome swimmer, but we boat daily and I wanted the piece of mind and for her to be able to float while we do when relaxing. Fit is great, she loves it now and will follow it around after it is taken off. Great product, and the sizing is great for a dog of her stature.

We needed a stout life jacket for our golden retriever who rides in our 16-foot drift boat on whitewater. The dog swam the strong currents of the Snake River in the life jacket with no problems. Great boyancy. Easy for swimming. We also whitewater raft and have the dogs in our whitewater canoe, too.

My 1 year old APBT loves the water and this helps him fetch and swim all day , bought it in medium and it fits him perfect.

The sturdiness and quality of these jackets make it possible for our dogs to perform water rescues. Without them, panicked humans would drag them down. They are also wearing incredibly well, considering they are used in salt water. Thank you for making our dogs safe!

Got my 28kg female into a medium - she can move around really well in it. However the males neck was too large so had to buy a large for him (33kg). It is really too long in the body for him - he can't reach his sister when she is holding onto his tail!! They work well in the water, my only complaint is the massive difference in size between the medium and large! Nicely visiable, and swim well in them.

I have a lab who loves jumping off docks and rocks, surfing and all sorts of water sports in general. It is great to have a quality product that gives me peace of mind and allows my dog the freedom to still be herself.
