I love this coat from Ruffwear and so do my dogs who all have one. We also lived in Colorado for 6 years and these coats along the ruffwear boots where the best. They wear & wash extremely well, are super comfortable for the doggies and keep them dry and warm in any weather condition.
This is a must have for my Service Dog "Ellie" who loves all her product clothes and eagerly helps me when putting them on her.

I bought this coat for my labrador but our friends spring spaniel joined us up in Tahoe and her belly fur would get soaking wet from the snow and she is older and was cold. We put this coat on her and she was in heaven she was warm her furry belly stayed dry. My friends ended up buying off me.

Excellent quality
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
This is a great coat. It is light but warm and waterproof. I agree with the other folks tho, that a male version needs to be created. This great coat has to be washed every time Conner wears it because he pees on it. I got the granite gray and it still has good visibility in the dark because of the reflective strips on the sides. It is actually very stylish and makes him look thinner and very striking. I only give 4 stars because of the peeing issue, but I love this jacket for him.

Each of our dogs has a Cloud Chaser. They are amazing coats. I'm just so surprised that you don't make a male model, because I'm not sure how the guys are supposed to pee with it on. Luckily my husband can sew, and cut an opening for our male dog. Our original Cloud Chaser was for our dog Jim, RIP, his coat was also adjusted, and Jane inherited it from him. Our other two have their very own coats and love them!

I wish you had more color options. I don't love the red but went with it because in the grey weather of Seattle, and when we're out in the snow I was afraid the grey would not be as visible (she's also a light colored dog - making it even harder)

This jacket is just what I was looking for! Joe is a 62lb boy and i originally ordered the large and echanged for a medium. perfect fit. he still enjoys all his doggy games and it keeps him dry in the snow. it also allows him to go out for longer walks in the cold. in no way does it get in his way to do his business or does it interfer with in any of his chasing and romping along the way. I have had many people stop and ask about his jacket in the last two weeks so be prepared for more colorado dogs to sport ruffwear

love the overall fit one minor flaw
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I had ordered this jacket thinking it would be great for my dog. At first when i put it on him inside no problems were seen, until we went for our walk. As we were walking i noticed that every time my dog went to go to the bathroom nothing ever happened. I also noticed he had a weird gait. Brody has had a coat and a shirt on him previously with no issues. Halfway through our walk i noticed that the bottom of the jacket extends to far back and covers his male parts. I like this jacket to much to send it back so im going to try and have the bottom of the jacket hemmed or have a cut out made or something... If you have a female dog this jacket works amazingly.. my cousin has my dogs sister and they love the jacket.. if you have a male dog it might be a gamble depending how long your dog is... PLEASE RUFFWEAR MAKE A MALE VERSION OF THIS JACKET

Mirabeau loves this jacket! She wears it about 5 times a week! Running in the early morning dark, she feels confident that cars can always see her! She also sports the Cloud Chaser coat at Mt Hood Meadows doggie park!
Wish List: Coat (for girls) that covers her back legs too, but leaves room in the back. She doesn't like getting dirt on her belly. This one covers quite a bit, but wishes it covered more of her belly.
More reflective taping! How about an entire jacket made with reflective material?
Mirabeau is 50lbs, runs 30 miles a week and wears a large :)
Thank you Ruffwear!

Great Product!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
The jacket is a pretty snug fit, not impairing Gracie's mobility or breathing or anything but it being a snug fit (she was 2" smaller than the biggest measurement for the Medium) it can be a slight pain to get the thing zippered up but other than that its a great product. Pretty pricey but for great protection for short haired dogs in the cold. Gracie loves wearing it!

Ordered 2 coats, ended up remaking one with part of the other so it would go around her, also underside too long, so had to shorten the part that covered her belly. Turned out to be a very expensive coat, but it works now. Need sizes for dogs with wider girth and shorter length. Would recommend product if you have a long, thin girth dog.

Very good
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Just bought Chief the cloud chaser jacket from REI locally. I got the XL size, as Chief's girth is 36" and he weighs 101 lbs. It fits really good. I was worried about the shoulder area fitting too tight but dont have that issue. I was also worried from previous comments about it covering his peepee, which this one comes right up to there, but does not cover it, thankfully. He was able to pee with it on today with no issues. I have the K9 jacket but at the time, I got size L and is now too small for him, so this XL cloud chaser will be great for rainy walks and cold days. Very happy and Chief likes it.

I was a little skeptical about this coat at first, it seemed light. But, have come to find it retains an amazing amount of heat. Daisy puts the miles on it running the beach. 20 degrees w a stiff wind the other day. Works well and looks great. The stretchy underside is giving her a little room to grow and my pocket a little time to recover in time for the next size up :)) I would love to see a gore tex hard shell that's fits over a hefty fleece coat from ruff wear.

Almost amazing... almost
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Got this for my pup because it was advertized as great against all elements, and quick drying. Bought it specifically for a trip to Sacramento to watch her "dad" run the CIM marathon and we knew it would be chilly (low 50s) and downpouring. Chilly and heavy rain we did experience....we both got drenched watching from the sidelines. The top of the jacket was everything I dreamed of. Kept her top dry, and she was nice and warm when I felt under it. Under part was another story. It got soaking wet, and never dried. After the rain ended, I took the coat off her, but the bottom part stayed wet for HOURS. Poor Casey had a warm dry back, and a cold and wet belly. So I think we'll use it for snow and cold weather, but stick to a rain jacket for wet weather since her fur dried faster than the bottom part of the coat did!

This is great at keeping my portie dry and protected as she runs through our fields and woods in deep snow. She doesn't even seem to notice it.The short 'sleeves' are essential in preventing ice balls from forming on the hair under her front arms. The web-site measuring instructions were spot on. It took me a few minutes to figure out that the Cloud Chaser is intended to fit my portie the same way that cycling spandex fits a cyclist. It goes on and comes off really easily - it helps to have the zipper just barely started and slide it over her neck. Wish I had ordered this sooner - it's great!

The bestest!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
This runs a little small, so if your dog is in between sizes, get the larger size. Paws down the best coat out there for wet conditions. The underside is a little long (covered his "equipment" as others have also noted). I got out my sewing machine and made modifications. Or you can take it to any place that hems pants, etc. Sure, it will mean more $, but this coat is worth it. When we come home after being in sleet, snow and wet conditions for hours and I remove it, his torso is still dry and warm. Amazing!

We went back and fourth on if we were going to get our Vizsla a jacket, well with 10 degree weather he needed one! This one is light, yet really keeps him warm. He can run and play with no restrictions. He seems to like it. 10 month old puppy. He was measuring 24in (a small) that did not fit AT ALL. The medium is a little big in the shoulders but nothing to really complain about. Easy on off.

We bought the red Cloud Chaser and the red short boots. He is styling! Best part is he likes wearing the coat AND the boots. Ruffwear should make another product that will slip around their head and cover their ears. A lot of the short-haired breeds need to cover their ears too because they are prone to frostbite.

Good, very well made
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Sarah does not love it but she likes it OK, I think the upper part is a bit stiff maybe because she wears XS and the material is thick so the stiffness does not allow her freedom of movement especially when she runs up and down the hills. Also its a bit too long in the stomach area and that bothers her a bit, if she were male we would have had to return it. Not sure why the underside is so long, the top part is the perfect legth. We have Climate Changer and she LOVES that one.

The jackets arrived quickly and are excellent quality. I wanted something to cover most of their belly as both dogs are rather low to the ground :). This did the trick! The only down side is getting their longer hair to lay down well while putting it on. The dogs aren't thrilled to wear the jackets, but it definetly helps keep them warmer and drier.

I really like the quality of this jacket and the idea of keeping my little man's belly and body warm and dry. We love to ski and snowshoe with carter and he needs alot of warmth. He has hardly any fur. Sadly, the jacket covers his penis, like others have mentioned. It would need a full tailoring overhaul, so I have to send it back! Please, please, ruffwear make a version for males! Would recommend for females only.

Very good
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
My dog is a German Pinscher and he is all muscle... I'm not sure these jackets were designed for a dog of his build. I tried 2 different sizes because my dog's girth was between Small and Medium. The Small was too tight, even though it stretched it looked ridiculous. The Medium fit well around his girth but it is about an inch too long (the dog pees on it) and not snug around the belly. The only other thing that I don't like that much is the arms, they don't seem to fit quite right and they chafe his legs unless I fold them up. Despite those 2 issues I think the jacket is great and have just purchased another one for my Basenji puppy.

Just what I was looking for!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I ordered the XXS for my dog. She is long and thin and most coats in that size are too short. I called before ordering to ask about the length (it would be nice if that was included in the online specs in addition to the girth measurement). The XXS is 12 inches in length, which is perfect for my little female Chiuhuahua. Since she has no fur on her stomach, I was looking for good coverage and this coat is it! Easy to put on and take off. It would be nice if it had a slightly thicker lining, but otherwise, no complaints.

I reviewed several brands and styles for our "energizer bunny", concern was 1. Can she get it off, 2. Will it protect her against the eliments. Ordered in the correct size (had to send small one back), it fits like a glove, the zipper is high enough on the side that it doesn't present a problem..although a little more money than most would consider spending on their pooch, however, this coat is well thought through and once you make the commitment to an animal...it should be at 100%.

This looked like the perfect jacket for our dogs, but unfortunately would have required major transformation to fit their slim silhouettes. Awesome!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Juno just wore her Cloudchaser in the rain for the first time today. It was almost magical. All the other dogs in our pack (everyone wears a different raincoat from everyone else) finished up with soaked, dirty bellies. The Cloudchaser was not only totally dry after a quick shake, but had somehow repelled the dirt! This was after two different hour-long walks in intermittent rain with a pack of five dogs each time. And did I mention Juno looks like a boss in her new coat? Can't wait till my puppy is all grown up and can get a Cloudchaser too!

LOVIT!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Our boxer has a really wide rib cage, so I was hesitant after reading fitting reviews, but the sizing was spot-on! Snug as a bug in a rug! She is super high energy and we try to give her at least an hour a day playing outside each day. She runs like a fool, in and out of heavy bushes and brush, loves mud puddles, and would chase all the squirrels right up the trees if she could! Not a tear! Not a spot on it. We come home covered in mud and burrs, sopping wet shoes... the dog is warm and dry! I wish I had a coat this nice for myself! At the dog park, they ask if I made it myself or had it custom ordered. The fabric is just that well fitting! She plays rough and wrestles around, but this coat is super smooth and moves with her, no snags. Tree branches, sloppy weather, playful pooches... nothing stops it!

After years of searching for a dog jacket that would allow my dog the freedom of athletic movement and keep him dry (including his belly) in this very rainy climate, I finally found the wonderful Cloud Chaser. This is truly a remarkable jacket keeping Rocky both clean and dry during his daily sessions of running and playing fetch. It dries quickly and keeps the muck from his belly where other coats fail. Size medium fits my 54 lb Standard Poodle like a glove. BRAVO Ruffwear!

With winter in Oregon, rain is inevitable and where I live, next to Mt. Hood, lots of it. Jack has never liked having a coat on but he gets soaked to the skin after 30 minutes in a serious downpour which he likes even less. The Cloud Chaser has cured all that! He actually likes it! Its easy on easy off, fits him well, and allows freedom of movement. It a soft-shell so not waterproof but sheds the rain well. Because it wraps under his belly, it also keeps his tummy clean and dry. Quality is excellent. I'm a bit jealous as it is better than any of my soft-shells. I wonder if I could fit ino an XXXXXL?

Overall Ruffwear has done a really great job coming up with a fitted dog coat that fits most dogs.
For the "Bully Breed" types it will be a bit long, but great for a girl or if you have a boy, you could tack the bottum seam, probably just a touch and have it fully functional.
My dog has a 28 " girth, and he fits the medium, it is perfect in the front end! Little tight at the neck but doesn't bother him and like I said, a little long.
**BY FAR the best fitting dog coat I've tried on him yet! So nice to have a functional coat

Just got my jacket in the mail! Very excited! Fits my baby girl almost perfectly. She's a pit mix - very bully. Her measurements were 10" chest, 18" neck, 28 girth, 22 long. Medium Jacket fits great. A little tight on the bottom of the neck but not uncomfortably tight and I'm sure will stretch with time! High quality and the light fleece on the inside is perfect for the cold weather! I wanted something to cover her slightly hairless belly and this was it!
Looks very sporty and she seems to like it! I'm excited for it to snow!

We purchased the cloud chaser for our 6 month old puppy. The fall/winter weather set in quickly this season here in Michigan and she did not like it at all! It was beginning to be a chore to get her to step outside if it was raining or cold out. We ordered a S it is just slightly big on her so she can grow into it a bit more. It fits her great! She loves wearing it, and it never bothers her at all! This jacket keeps her very warm and dry. Now she loves going outside again!
I started researching dog outerwear and found Ruffwear to be the best out there. The material and build quality is the best I've seen. Very easy to get on and off. Nothing comes close. If your dog loves the outdoors as much as you do buy from Ruffwear, this gear is made to last a very long time in tough conditions.
Thank you for making a quality product. Most importantly it works, and also will last a long time. This is exactly what I was looking for!

My 43 lbs pit mix has a girth of about 26.5 and fit nicely in the small. The medium would probably work well too, but it was a little baggy and I worried it would stretch out more. He's very athletic and this jacket doesn't slow him down at all, he's able to run and jump just like he would without it on. I will probably purchase the Quinzee next. Ruffwear seems like a good product and worth the extra bit of money. I would give it 5 stars but it's not competely waterproof. It says it protects against rain, but on the tag it says it's only weather resistant. It would be perfect otherwise.

Good (especially for females)

This is a good product. I did have problems with the sizing initially (the jacket was purchased for my largest foster dog, and didn't even fit my smallest dog who is 15 lbs smaller). But Ruffwear replaced the jacket for free, and the customer service experience was very good. I wouldn't recommend this jacket for a male dog - we did have to modify the coat and it was rather expensive to have to be doing that. I recommended to Ruffwear to provide a male and female version of the coat, but since my purchase a year and a half ago it looks like they didn't take it to heart. :( Overall, it does keep the dog warm in the cold weather. The dog has since been adopted and his new owner has him wear it when they go running/hiking and it has held up well.

Good jacket, but needs to be better
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I would give this jacket 2.5 stars if I could. Ruff Wear got 1/2 of it right.
I will say that the fit is perfect on my dog and the size chart seems to be spot on, at least for me. All dogs are different though. I never had the issue of it being too long along the bottom and it covering my dogs penis as some other owners have talked about. He has no issues going to the bathroom with it on.
The soft shell portion of the jacket is tremendous, and I give that 5 stars! It does what a soft shell shoud do, block wind, light rain, snow etc. Problem is, the bottom 1/2 half of the coat is a lightweight strechy nylon material that just does not hold up to trail abuse. My dog had numerous holes in his rather quickly. The sides and underside is what gets the abuse against rocks, trees, etc and sadly the material is just not up to that task.
If you are using this strickly for daily leash walks, its great for some protection from the elements. If you need something robust and bomber proof for the wooded trails in all seasons like I do, you may need to look elsewhere. If they had only continued the soft shell all around the coat...

He loves his jacket, I tell him come on lets put on your coat, he wags his tail and runs over to me to put it on him. I wish it had a hood though to keep his head dry.

My dog's girth is 28, top end of the small, low end of the medium. I chose the medium because I wanted the most coverage possible since my dog is 13 and has health issues that required her tummy to be shaved. I'm glad I chose the medium. While the fit isn't super snug, it's tight enough. We had temps in the teens with below zero windchill and when I felt her bare tummy, there was a definite line where the coat was and where it wasn't. I intend to use this also as a rain coat and like that it goes almost to the base of her tail. Because there's a little give in the jacket, I've found the best way to get her into it is to zip the zipper about 1 inch and then slip the jacket over her head. Put her foot away from the zipper through and then put the other through and zip her up. To get her out, I unzip the whole thing and let her step out of the leg holes. She's certainly able to stay out longer with this jacket, even though I'm not entirely sure she likes it when I first put it on. Wish there were better guidelines for ordering the size. Felt I was guessing.

I ordered this a couple of months ago and hadn't had the opprotunity to use it until this morning. It just hasn't been cold/wet enough. This morning it was 36 degrees and rainy, perfect weather to try it out.
First the "bad". Rather than just girth I wish they would also shown length. Then I would not have ordered the wrong size. I also found the zipper a little tough to engage when putting the jacket on a dog that isn't used to wearing jackets and wiggles a lot while you're trying to line up the zipper. Minus half a star each.
That said when I finally wrestled her into the jacket and got to the park, I was impressed. The jacket kept my dog dry and she has a coat that absorbs water like a sponge. It has good chest and belly coverage. It didn't prevent her from running around like a lunatic older puppy.
I would definitely recommend the jacket.

Excellent Jacket
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I ordered a size medium for my show dal. Medium is the correct length for the dog; covers nicely on the top (short of tail about 1 inch) and doesn't interfere with urination at all.
However, due to the large barrel chest of the dalmatian, you really have to work hard to get the first 3" of the zipper done. The fabric needs to be stretched (as it is intended to be) to get the zipper started.
If you can't do tight grasping, you are going to have a tough time getting the medium on.
I am very pleased with the coat and the size for my dog. We just had our first snowfall and the coat was soaking wet n the outside, but Siren was warm and dry on the inside.
4-stars because I think the product could be improved by adding an inch to the circumferal chest fabric to make it easier to don.

I loved this coat to begin with, but now that winter is here full force and my service dog has to wear it a good bit, I'm noticing she's getting rubbed raw on her legs. I've tried to stretch the arm holes, but it didn't seem to help. Other than that, it fits really well. Mandi's a fine boned dog, though, so I'm not sure why it's rubbing so badly. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? It's also torn on her shoulder with relatively little use.

But we could see that our dog was cozy. It was rainy and he wasn't shaking at all. We knew for sure that the cloud chaser made a difference because our dog doesn't do well in the cold for too long. My husband and I were impressed at how nice it fit and of course the overall look. The underside is a little bit longer so we just have to make sure he's able to go to the bathroom when we put it on. But very good dog product for keeping our dog warm and water resistant.

My coonhound mix is about 50lb, skinny with a deep chest. I followed the measurement guide, and purchased the medium. It fits him well with the exception of the very rear-his butt is so skinny that it is not very tight/form fitting, but that's OK since our walks are only about 30 min. I love the fact it covers his belly, and he is so long that there is no issuing with peeing (I saw that in other reviews). Easy to get on, even with a squirmy dog. Worth the money! Clancy seems to enjoy wearing it, no problems with chafing under his front legs.

poor fit for narrow dogs
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Because of the sleeves on this jacket, it will really only fit "typical" shaped dogs, such as labs or goldens. My standard poodle measure 30 inches in girth, right in the middle of the Medium range. Because she has a narrow, deep chest, her front legs are close together. This made the jacket bunch up between her legs and be too tight across her back. A larger size didn't work as it just bunched up even more and was too long. Perhaps they could have several fits for narrow, medium, and wide chested dogs?
I really wanted this to work as a jacket with legs would keep snowballs from accumulating in her armpits, but I just can't find anything to fit.

Well Made, Great Looking..Needs Design Modifications
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Sure enough...Very fine jacket with top quality materials and construction. Keeps my 7 lb Morkie warm, dry and looking sharp. BUT.....the design needs to be modified for male dogs. Sparky pees right inside of the coat, as it is cut a bit too long and loose, on the bottom. His "parts of pride" aim right inside of the coat. There is a need for a "unisex" version of this otherwise fine coat. Also it needs be made to fit tighter around the belly, since the material in that area is rather "stretchy". Regrettfully...I can only give this coat a star rating of 2 because it is full of pee when removed. Ruff Wear will hopefully fix this issue in the next version of this otherwise outstanding jacket.

I would like to see more sizing options. Our Am Staff Terriers chest measures 27" and a small would not go on him(too small)! Returned and ordered a medium. We could get that on and zipped, however, it is some- what long and loose in the rear causing some problems with his male dog parts. Made some adjustments to the garment to make it fit better. Perhaps a girth AND length sizing system would enable these fine jackets to better fit more breeds without alterations.

This coat is very well made, but I had to perform some custom tailoring in order for it to fit my male miniature schnauzer correctly. The underside of the coat is far too long (at least for his square frame) and caused him to urinate inside/on the jacket.

This coat is very warm for my girl. What I had to do is customize the arms and neck with a few gusset's. Now it works great. I think that the zipper could be a little bit bigger for a smoother zip. My girl owns two of them one red one black and she loves them both. From two week backpacking to all around town and everything in between this coat preform's very well.

good for females, not suitable for males
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I would really like to get one for my dog, BUT we tried it on and as a male dog he would pee into the coat.... or it is way to small and does not cover his back sufficiently. My recommendation: design the same in a "male dog version". And make sure that the back is really covered, maybe add two elastics to pull around the legs? For dogs who have to keep their back warm because of cold tail problems! And there are a lot of them!

My canine companion(s): Male Boxer
causes arm abrasions
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Overall I think this is a great coat for winter but it did not fit my 58 lb male boxer well. He is not your typical thick chested boxer, he is actually quite slender and athletic, however after a 2 hour walk in Central Park, he came back with raw red abrasions on his arms from where the sleeves rubbed. I thought it just needed time to stretch and get broken in, but after a week and many walks later, his poor arms were just raw and bleeding and he kept licking the wounds. On another note, it also constricts his movement and he walked like a penguin. I read other reviews about how this coat covered the male's penis but I never experienced that part. I really wish this worked for my dog because I like the waterproof and full coverage, but I had to return it.

Great Quality
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
We've got 2 Labs and they've each got one of these jackets. One was sized perfectly and the other was basically exactly between a M and L. After visiting with RW customer service and receiving additional measurements, we opted for the L. It arrived and was far too big - way too long to be specific. Exchanged for a M and it now fits her perfectly. Pretty easy to get on (if the dogs cooperate!) and zipper seems stout enough. One issue we've encountered is that somehow one dog is able to remove the jacket, even though the zipper ends at the back end. Perhaps the other dog pulls it off if they wrestle? Total mystery that may only be solved if we place a video camera in the kennel! Have now added a safety pin to the zipper pull and pin it to the back end of the jacket. Seems to be working. As for warmth, we've been experiencing a mild winter so far, so it's hard to say how it will serve them when it gets really cold. The jackets do fit snugly and don't affect mobility.

Good for moderate outdoor use.
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I bought this coat for my lab/pit mix because I felt that she needed the extra protection outdoors during out winter months. For her 60lbs build, I bought her a size large and it fits like it was made for her. She is not constricted in anyway and can play for hours with her buddies without being cold. I take her long distance backpacking with me and would definitely recommend doubling this coat with something else for better protection against wind and snow. But if you're going for a walk in the park and it's a bit chilly out -- this jacket will do just fine!

It Keeps him Warm!!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I purchased this jacket for my dog because my wife and i hike the adirondack high peaks and our italian greyhound freezes at the summit, this jacket is lightweight and keeps him very warm and dry on our hikes, i have made slight modifications because the underbelly portion of it is too long and it covers my dogs peep, but i don't mind in the really cold if we're just hanging out. It's not the easiest jacket to put on but it is very well made and cute on him too, just be careful with the sizing, we order the appropriate size for our dog and it fits a little snug, mainly because our dog had a very deep chest. be sure to measure your dog before ordering to avoid problems.

My Cavalier is a true water dog-- she can sniff out a good swimming hole in no time. She is also an expert at locating a nice muddy puddle. It keeps her dry without binding her head and best of all, her belly stays dry. She loves her Cloud Chaser!

We took the coat out on a run at minus four below zero degrees farenheit. My dog was soo happy and warm we ran 4 miles. She is only 42 lbs and the medium size is just a tiny bit big but she still has a few lbs to go before she reaches full size. Very happy with the Cloud Chaser.

This jacket is awesome. 33 lb dog, got a small, the only issue is that it's too long on the bottom half, since he's a boy it gets in the way, so we had to pin it to make it shorter. BUT keeps him totally dry in teh parts it covers, LOVE the fact it covers his entire stomach. Just bought the sun chaser jacket as well for the warmer rainy days. Dog really doesn't care but I'm sure that's each dog's preference, this job just loves being outside so it's nothing to him. Love this thing!

The new design of the Cloud Chaser works very well for our female Vizsla, but for our male Pit/Lab mix, his penis ends up inside of the coat, which obviously is a major problem. The older design (2 years ago or so) does not have this same fatal flaw. Both of my dogs are long and lean with relatively narrow chests. Both wears size small and are about 45 lbs. I would not recommend this product for anyone with a male dog.

It has great coverage on her bare belly and chest which when wet would get her chilled. It keeps her perfectly warm and dry underneath, fits like a glove (meant to fit so it looks fairly snug), and best of all she loves it! It's so far been our go to gear for hiking in the cold/drizzling conditions, but can foresee lots of use with it snowshoeing this year. Would recommend it in a heartbeat!

keeps him dry and warm in harshest conditions. Very comfortable for him to wear, snug without any chafing. You definitely want to measure your dog carefully in deciding on sizing. My only quibble is that, with the proper girth, the length is abit long and I fold it back up his back at least til he has peed. A drawstring or set of snaps to adjust the length, or a choice of lengths, might be useful.

The size chart on this garment is horribly wrong. According to the size chart, the XS fits a dog with a 17-24" circumference, yet, I couldn't even zip the jacket shut on my pugs. Plus, the length was way too long and would have been urinated on, so ordering a size up is out of the question. For reference, my pugs have a 22" chest circumference and 12" long torso.
I had hoped to be able to oorder a lot more Ruff wear coats, but this will not be possible.

Good idea with room for improvement

I bought this cloud chaser coat for backcountry snowshoeing. After about 2 miles in (or about 5 miles for Sam) he developed hot spots under his arm pits where the rubber sleeves were rubbing. After sleeping with it off and wearing it on the hike back, he had developed raw sores and bald spots around his arms. He has a 31cm so it was a snug medium which was supposed to be for dogs with up to 32cm chest. If I get the large, the coat is too long for his body and does not allow him re relieve himself without going all over the coat. I cut the elastic part out of the coat but still rubbs the fur off. I will probably replace this coat with the K9-Overcoat. If you plan on using this coat in very active conditions, watch the contact points of the coat.

She loves it because she can still run, romp and play without the garment getting bunched and in her way! It truely stays in place! The sizing was right on the money also. Has to be one of the best dog coats on the market! Well worth the price! Quallity is excellent and it is a tough dog coat that can hold up to a puppy with a very active lifestyle! It also makes her look fit and trim, so she thinks it is the go to garment for vet check ups!!

We love, love this jacket! My husband thought I was nuts when I told him I was going to purchase it for our 9 yr. old lab because she seems to be getting cold on our daily runs. It took me a long time to figure out why Sundance just didn't seem to be enjoying running as much as she used to. Now that we have her "pretty coat" she is the 1st to get ready each morning and my husband is now a believer! No more hesitation to step out the door, no more hurrying back to the car, lots more jumping for joy and rolling in the snow! I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone...not all dogs are built for the negative temps. that we have for 6 months out of every year! As for the fit...I orginally purchased a medium (Sundance weighs 61 lbs.) and it seemed to fit prtetty good but just a bit snug. I decided to try the large and it's perfect! I kept the medium because now that Sundance wants to run more the medium is going to fit soon!

Excellent quality but runs small
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
This is a nice quality jacket that keeps my dog warm while hiking in wet and windy weather. His girth is 24" and I ordered a size small (according to the size chart, he was between sizes XS and S). The S is a very snug fit and I'm sure the XS would be too tight to zip. As other reviewers mentioned the coat prevented him from peeing but it is easy to alter. This might not be a problem for male dogs with longer, narrower torsos. The side zip makes it very easy to take on and off and so far it has held up well.

The coat is extremely well built, I love it! The only warning: the sizing results in a jacket that fits a bit tight, if your dog is on the upper end of the range - then, because it's fitted, the zipper unzips. I had to sew a snap on, to prevent it - that solved the problem though, and we use it all the time!

Very tight fit for a dog in the middle of the size-range
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Let me start off by saying I love most of RW's products that I've purchased so far - the TurnUp, the Sqwash, the Sun Shower, the Beacon, the Track Jacket. They're all great!
Then I got the Cloud Chaser. I had 2 issues with the jacket stemming from the same problem - the fit. My dog is 27 in. at the chest - smack in the middle of the Small size range, only I could BARELY zip the thing up. Yes, RW says it should fit tight, but I really had to struggle to even get the zipper started. I'd hate to try that on a dog with a 30 in. chest (the max. for the Small). Ok, bad sizing, whatever.
The bigger problem, I see is in the design. To stay warm, clothing traps air against the body to warm it. Dogs fur does the same thing. By being a (very) tight fitting garment, this counteracts the dog's natural heat retaining abilities and replaces it with almost nothing on the underside and a thin fleecy top. I love the idea, but the design needs further thought. Sorry guys.
I'll try a larger size, but I think I'll probably go with a Climate Changer and put the Sun Shower over it on snowy days.

Rex is a 30lb schnauzer. The jacket fits well except for the underbelly which is too long and impedes Rex's ability to relieve himself. I am going to fix it myself but am wondering if you have any suggestions or plan to remedy this. I recommend the product but feel you should give measurements for the underpart of the coat or make it shorter.

My dog is very active outside. She weighs 70 pounds. Her girth is 31" (I don't think she'll mind me revealing that). I originally bought a medium, as she wears the medium Webmaster Harness (another great product). But there is no way she could fit into the medium Cloud Chaser, even though it supposedly goes up to a 32" girth.
I then ordered the large and it is perfect. So I would recommend that, if you are at the high end of the measurements, you go a size larger. I will be returning the medium.
But a great product that keeps Zelda warm and dry in WI winter.

I read all the reviews before I purchased these coats for my dogs. I saw that people were concerned about the fit, but I figured that Ruffwear knows how to design a coat and that I was smart enough to measure my dog correctly. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The coat did not even come close to fitting on either of my dogs. The chest is just too narrow. In a larger size, the length will be too long. I am not sure what breed of dog will fit in this coat. I am very disappointed and will be returning both coats.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Our dog doesn't like getting into the coat at all but once she's in it, she's just fine. It protects her about as much as any coat could without being too restrictive. This morning she was frolicking in the snow and came in dry as a bone.
If I could change one thing, I would split the back part where the tail is. The coat is a bit long in the body and inhibits tail movement. We pinned the coat back with a couple of safety pins.
I agree with the poster who suggest a long and short size.

as for sizing, the medium fit my dog's body well except the neck was a little too snug and the arm cuffs were too tight. i am a winderness program field instructor and take my dog along with me for 8 days at a time. wearing this coat for extended amounts of time proved to be not such a good thing in terms of the tight arm cuffs. after a few days the cuffs wore hot spots on the front side of each elbow. i ended up cutting the fabric to allow for more freedom of movement but it was too late the hot spots only got worse. i intend to sew in a piece of fabric to make the arm cuff size larger and see what happens. overall i like the coat and will most likely purchase the fleece one as well since my dog is quite cold natured.

I purchased the Cloud Chaser for my 60 lb yellow lab "Layla" She loves to play in the snow and be outside during the winter but has a hard time staying warm. So, after much research on the internet I purchased this jacket from Ruffwear. I really love the full coverage over the stomach. The fit is great as well. When we 1st put it on her she acted as though she had a stright jacket on and wouldn't move much (it was really funny). We grabbed her favorite toy (a ball) and told her we were going to play fetch. She immediately forgot she had the jacket on. We played fetch for about an hour the jacket moved beautifully and kept her nice and warm. The only draw back I have to the jacket is the material is a little flimsy. I have an extremely active dog and she goes to doggy daycare (on a farm) 3 days per week. The other dogs ripped the collar of her jacket the very 1st day she wore it to daycare (they all play pretty roughly). I will have to patch it somehow (not easy fabrick to sew). I'm not sure this is a valid complaint because the jacket is not really made for the heavy use we put it through. I would like to ask Ruffwear to consider making a heavier version of this jacket for crazy dogs like my lab. I would be very interested in purchasing a product like that.

Very Good
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I bought two Cloud Chasers for two Boston Terriers who are quite different in size – 14 pounds (an extra small) and 28 pounds (a small). I know that a good fit is important because the jacket goes all the way around the dog and I recognize that dogs come in all sizes and shapes. The BTs have a barrel chest but are not long dogs so I had to first get a size that was big enough for their girth. However, because of the BT's shape, the jackets were really too long. If the coat is too long and the dog is a male then during a #1 the jacket can get wet. I had a friend do some sewing adjustments on the bottom so the jacket now clears the dog's "junk". Otherwise, the jackets are of great quality, they keep the dogs warm and dry, and, best of all, they like wearing them. I know that the manufacturer can only stock so many sizes but it would be great if each size came in a "long" and a "short" version to accommodate the different dog shapes.

Fits dog well - though is a little tighter than I would like...mainly around legs & chest. It has withstood an active month in the snow so far without showing any rips, tears, or unstitching. We tried the XL and L - the XL was too big and the L very tight. I know the product is meant to fit snug, but if there had been an inbetween size I would have prefered it. It does seem a little expensive, but the build quality appears good - time will tell!

This jacket is great and goes on well. The zipper rarely gets caught in my dogs long hair. I bought it, not for warmth but because the long hair has been known to collect lots of snow and is a mess to clea n up/dry out after my back country runs.
My only complaint is that the legs don't go long enough. I don't need booties but some gaiters for my dog would be awesome. He gets packed with snow and it is inhibiting for his mobility. maybe offer some dog gaiters.

Looks better than it is
Would you recommend this product?.: No
This jacket looks nice, however the first day with this jacket, the stiching started ripping out of the seams. This was not due to incorrect sizing or rough handling, but rather poor seam quality. The zipper feels cheep, and according to other reviewers, it is. Ruffwear designed the jacket to fit tight in the chest, however they seem to have designed the waist for out of shape or sausage shaped dogs. This leaves the jacket hanging loosely infront of my dog's penis. This could easily be remidied if ruffwear would attach some velcro at the back of the zipper which would provide adjustment in this area. This jacket has potential, however the cheep zipper, poor seam quality and poor design for male dogs make this product a looser in my book. What a dissapointment, if they had put a little more thought into the design and materials (seams and zippers) reflect the $80 price tag, this could be an awesome product.

Our Chipin loves this coat! Not to mention we're very impressed by the way it looks. The *only* problem is that it covers his manhood. Others have also mentioned this in their reviews. Our solution was to take it to the tailor and ask to have a small semi-circle cut from that area. The tailor did a great job and refinished the seam perfectly, and now it's a great fit. I can say that this simple, cheap, modification works and recommend others with similar issues do the same. I'm giving 5/5 as I don't think this jacket should be marked down beacuse it doesn't fit every breed perfectly, and this particular problem was easy for us to fix.

Have been using the Cloud Chaser jacket for 3 days now in minus -5 degree weather with blowing snow with outstanding protection for my short haired dog...she loves having it on, almost refusing to let you un-zip it to take it off.
She measures a medium and the torso length is perfect but has a deep chest so the medium is tight around her neck.
Would love to see other size offerings..ie...Med.length/Large chest.
The full length "side" zipper is excellent, allowing complete step-in-out from the jacket....Bravo

good quality/fit could be improved
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Good quality jacket - my dog snagged it on a barbed wire fence the first time she wore it, and while there is a hole in the fabric - it hasn't torn from the hole.
Would be nice to see an improvement on fit in the future.
I have a lean built 56lb Malinois and took her to stores all over town to try different sizes. Even though her measurements put her in a medium - the medium fit too tight so I ordered the large. The large is a little roomier in the neck than I would prefer on her - but is perfect fit for her torso. It seems maybe the legs would fit better if they weren't as long - they're at the middle length where they rub up and down over her elbows when she runs. I haven't had it on her for any extended periods of time yet to see if this is going to rub her fur like some of the other reviews mentioned. I may consider cutting the legs shorter if this becomes a problem.
overall nice 'in between' weight where she can run/work in the colder temps without overheating.
If you are considering one - it is worth the time if you can 'try them on' for sizing before you order.

I have two little Prague Ratters (like Min Pins but a little bit smaller - yes, smaller ;o) ). Now, these dogs are so no lapdogs but 100% fit hunting dogs and when we are outdoors they give a 100%. It is very hard to find a good wintercoat that fits this size of dogs. There are heaps of cheap coats but they are not even worth looking at. I bought the Cloud Chaser Jacket for the bigger one of my ladies and what can I say... just fabulous! Unbelievable how a material as thin as the stretch part is can be 100% waterproof. My little Lilu is now jumping thru the snow like there's no tmrw. And after that she the jacket is still dry inside! Awesome! When we are training (we are member of a SAR DogTeam of the local firebrigade and Lilu is a mantrailer - with many awards I can proudly say - although she is little) the Cloud CHaser keeps her dry and comfy even in bad fall conditions. I can only say thank you for this product!!! Every little part on it is well thought about.
Only two things:
- it would be even better if there would be something to tighten it up at the end (like a rubber band with one of these stoppers)
- Lilu now has the smallest size. It is still a tiny little bit too big. Please think about very small dogs as well. My other little lady, Tequila, needs one as well and the smallest size is just way too big for her. We have to go through the strong Bavarian winter with cheap coats that only take a couple of minutes until they are soaking and filled up with snow.
Would be awesome if you could widen your range of products for very small dogs as well. I know a lot of people who would buy it.
Anyway, this Jacket comes highly recommended to everyone who is thinking about getting one for their dog!

Well built. Our rr loves to hike in the snow but his short fur doesn't allow him to. Our vet suggested getting him a coat to make sure he's getting the proper activity level in the winter month. Took him a little time to used to... but its well worth it. After a 2 hour hike you can tell he still feels great. This is a well built product made for years of use. Thank you ruffwear! Now the boots are on my wish list. Fyi if its a little snug that's okay. It will slightly stretch but should still be fit enough to keep the snow out.

Need to Fix the Arm Openings
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Cons:
My main concern is with the leg openings - after a 20 minute run, my dogs legs were raw and red. She spent the rest of the night licking them. :( I read on the REI.com site that several others have had this problem with no response from the company - even those with dogs that don't have a blocky build. I am going to try to cut the bands off, which I am not sure I should do and hope that will help.
I would love Ruffwear to design a jacket to fit blockier built dogs like my pit. I have a 60lb pit, and I went with the medium, which is tight across her chest.
Pros:
I like the quality of the fabric and the design (the fact that it zippers is wonderful instead of velcro for my active dog).
I did like the light loop since we go running in the dark in the winter as well as the reflective stripes. The colors are nice too.
I would recommend it after they fix the problem with the sleeves. I have read many reviews that have issues with them including reviews from last years jackets with no fix for this year. I gave it a rating of 1 because of this.

Ok
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I haven't used the jackets yet and I was thinking about returning them. The fit for our 40 lb Vizsla (small) seems snug, but yet her dimensions were definitely in the small range. Our other Vizsla is 56 lbs. and his medium fits well, just a little loose around the neck.
Also, the zip up seems a bit cumbersome. I love the Ruff wear products, but I'm not sure if I'm completely sold on the fit and design of this jacket.

Excellent
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I have a Lab/Dalmatian mix. He really is just a black Dalmatian. No body fat at all and no Lab double coat. The Cloud Chaser is a great coat for him, functional without looking dorky. I wish that there were more size selections for this coat. He has a barrel chest so the medium didn’t fit around his chest and the large is big around his waist. I also had to make a small alteration to accommodate potty breaks as the large covers him up. The medium would have been perfect if the chest had been larger. I do understand that he’s a custom tailor dog in an off the rack world though. This is perfect for walks in our rainy cold Seattle winters. I highly recommend this coat, anyone with an active dog needs this

3rd year loving this coat
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
It's rare to find a dog coat that is functional and looks good, most functional coats I've seen look like small horse blankets. I first bought this product 3 years ago for my eskie who hates the cold, his jacket is still around and he wears it whenever the temp drops below 40. The only issue I have had with it, it sometimes gets in the way of his urinating. This is the second season my high functioning disabled border collie has had one of these coats. She has no body fat and when the temp drops wears the coat 24/7. She does not experience any chafing, wearing or matting of the hair and treats it like her second skin. In the heavy snow, this coat works very well under a shell type jacket.

Good looking coat
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I bought this coat last year. Like the coat, looks great, the fit is snug. My only complaint is the leg openings are a little too tight. After a while walking, running, and playing they start to wear her fur off where the leg trim rubs her legs. I wrote a review last year suggesting a slight redesign, but I guess not. I was't the only review stating this problem. I read a review stating the same thing but didn't believe it. Well it was correct. Now when I use the coat I rub some paw wax on the areas where the opening hits her legs.

Good Quality, easy to get on and off. I got a medium first (my dogs are 70lbs each and in between Med. & Lrg ) and it was a little too snug thru the chest. The large fit one dog perfectly and the other was a bit too long underneath. I had it altered since my dog is a male.

This is a great product! Very good looking, our dog has received numerous compliments. Sheds water pretty well. Not water resistent/proof, but works well in the rain. I love the tight fit around the legs/chest that allows movement but doesn't reposition on her. Going to buy another one as soon as we get out next dog! Keep it up!

I bought a Lt. blue coat 2 yrs ago for my 1st Laboradoodle. He does not have a very thick coat. He has been wearing it now for 2yrs this will be his 3rd season. The coat still is in great shape. I wash it only only gentle cycle cold water. Everything zipper and reflective stripes have held up with no problems. I will be getting a 2nd one for my 2nd doodle. I like the new Red color it makes it very visible in the snow.

I had to exchange the xs for a size small. this is a great investment and although a teeny bit loose, it fits great. the length covers him completely and the neck is not too constricting. He likes the coat and we can not wait to test it out in the snow and colder weather. i think this will last a lifetime--well made and i appreciate the bright red color, reflective stripes, light hoop, and the ease with which one might clean the item by machine or hand. well worth the price. at first, i was not too keen on the zipper but have come to appreciate its form and function. easy on and easy off w/ great coverage and comfort for my beloved friend!

Didn't Fit
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I thought the coat looked like it was made well but as it did not fit, we did not get a chance to really try it. We used the recommended sizing chart, ordered a small which we couldn't even get zipped up. Returned it and ordered a medium which was too long. So, after paying for shipping twice to get the coat to me (the second time half off) and twice on returns, we still have no coat and I am out over $20 on shipping costs. Bummer.
(I only put a no recommendation as it wouldn't let me leave nothing and I can't recommend something I haven't tried out)

My mini doxie loves being outside but hates the rain. Have been looking for a jacket that will keep him dry, both on top and underneath and this jacket is it! The only problem is the belly length is a bit too long and covers up his "boy" parts. We had a friend look at it to consider altering it, but we're not sure that will work, so I think we need to return it. Doxie's are just hard to find gear for!

I did not like this jacket for my dog. I bring her to work with me and in the winter she needs a warm layer. I thought this jacket would provide more warmth than it did and I was unimpressed with the durability of the coat. Within one week of her wearing it in the field there was a rip in the top shell and one in the side shell. I think next time I would just stick with the fleece.

Poor zipper design
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I had the coat for about 2 hours and a couple of the zipper teeth broke off. Contacted ruffwear and they were very helpful. They sent me a replacement about a week later. This one lasted about 5 days before the same thing happened. My dog is very active and runs though the woods often. I dont know if the zipper got caught on something in the woods. Everytime she wore the coat she was supervised so it wasnt because she was pulling at it or chewing at it. I dont think the plastic zipper holds up well to this type of dog and conditions. Maybe a metal zipper would be a better idea or even some button snaps on the zipper flap to help protct the zipper better.

This coat was perfect for our little guy- since he doesn't have a nice warm coat of his own. He's about 15 pounds and very tall, but the XS fits him perfectly (girth was 17" so I ordered slightly larger in case he gets bigger). It's also super durable- holds up against wrestling with other dogs. We got the red- so he's easier to see against leaves and such. Love the reflective stripes too!

The coat is very sleek and urban looking. Love the front leg and chest coverage. A bit diffiuclt to get on but I could live with that. What lowered my rating is that the underbelly of the coat is a litttle too long for my Rex. Rex is an 11 pound Terrier and the Small fit him perfectly EXCEPT it was too long underneath impeding his ability to relieve himself. The XS is tight but clears that essentail part of himself. For the price of this very well made garment I wish I had a better fit for Rex even though I am keeping it. I am reluctant to give a YES! rating but also think this coat does not warrant a No. Wish there was a "Yes, but" button.

Small fits our 30 lb cockapoo very well but is a little close when he urinates but it just clears. Good overall coverage and fleece lining is soft on his hair while the outer material keeps him warm and pretty dry. Also there is an attachment point behind the collar in front of the Ruffwear logo to attach a light.

I have admired this coat for a while and finally purchased one for my dog. I love the snug fit and the material feels soft and warm. I have ont BIG complaint though.....my dog is a male and the belly side of the coat is so long it covers his......well his manhood. It make for a messy pee break. I am very disappointed in this product. It was a lot of money to only discover that when wearing the coat he peed all over himself!! I am not sure I would recommend this coat for male dogs.

This is one great looking piece of canine equipment! I ordered this in an xs for my papillon/ border collie cross Miles so this winter when we went packing he wouldn't get those othersome ice chunchs stuck in his belly fur, and I think it is going to work out great! So far we have only gone for a short hike in it, but he seems very comfy and we got lots of comments on how great it looked from the other hikers we bumped in to (not literally!) All in all I have to say I am very impressed and look forward to rating this little gems proformace this winter against the snow and ice!

The new Cloud Chaser is much improved over the previous version. Fit is much better and fabric is amazing- soft with more stretch. No rubbing at the leg "cuffs" and no zipper problems. Larger neck opening gives a better fit for my dog but doesn't sag or let the weather in. Still very water repellent and I love the grey color (looks great on my blue Dobe).
