Extremely pleased for "off-label" usage :-)

I'm so very happy with your DoubleBack™ Harness for our Zoe (a Chessie) who has degenerative myelopathy and intravertebral disc disease. Zoe's modeling it in the late fall sunshine on your FB wall. We also added a couple of clips to the DB leg buckles, attach a Knot-a-Coupler™ and use it as a rear-assist for walking - awesome! Zoe's worn her DBH since 2nd week of Oct, the leg rings constantly for 2 weeks & ZERO problems. We would recommend it for specific situations for temporarily, progressively, or permanently handicapped dogs. The Webmaster has been reco'd by Scout's House, a pet physical therapy business, as being good for dogs with dm & IVDD, which is what brought Ruff Wear harnesses to my attention. When I heard about the DBH's development via the DMDogs Yahoo group, we actively investigated. It is perfect for our needs and she even can wear it into the tank for her weekly underwater treadmill work.Thank you for a great product! If I were designing this specifically for handicapped pets, I would have the quick-clips found on the Webmaster, but that is certainly not the original intent of the DBH. Maybe someday we'll actually use ours for belaying a dog! --Kathy & Zoe/////Yes

great!

My 90-lb. pit bull lost his front right leg to cancer almost three years ago. This harness allowed him to go with me on his first hike since the amputation! It stays put even on a front leg amputee and doesn't spin around his torso like other harnesses. This one is easy to put on, even when he was lying down. /////Yes

Extremely pleased with quality of materials and heavy-duty stitching

I ordered both a medium and large size Ruffwear double-back harness. My 75-pound greyhounds have very sparse fur and delicate skin. The greys don't appear to have any discomfort, pinching, or abrasion issues with limited lifting use. The German Shep. wears it comfortably when we go hiking. My furred family members are the guinea pigs for the first phase of 'rescue' testing. I volunteer with the Oregon Humane Society's Technical Animal Rescue Team. The team typically is called out to retrieve dogs that have inadvertently fallen off cliffs or down steep embankments. After researching numerous harnesses, I chose Ruffwear double-back for ease of application and ultimate safety for the pet.The second evaluation phase will be 'practice' rescues using weighted stuffed animals, then ultimately with my four-footed family members. The Ruffwear double-back harnesses are indeed easy to put on whether the dog is standing, or lying down. The rear-leg loops are what really sold me on the harness. From a 'rescuer' point-of-view, the only thing that would make the harness easier to apply while hanging on a precarious ledge with an injured dog would be adding some sort of quick-clip system to 'temporarily' steady the dog while the rescuer secures each doubleback buckle. (I realize Ruffwear's double-back harness is not designed for rescue purposes.) If Ruffwear ever considers offering a rescue harness option, I'd be first in line to get one! (I also carry the harnesses in my police patrol car 'go-pack' for any future sudden dog-lifting possibilities.)/////Five Stars! Highly recommended for raising and lowering of dogs while hiking or climbing.

lacking adjustment

I wanted to love this harness, but I dont. It just doesnt fit correctly on long bodied dogs. There is no length adjustment for the rear part of the harness so the handle sits too high on his back /////No

Fits and works great!!

My eight year old dog Bailey was just recently diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and I didn't want her to not go places with me because of it. She will be having total hip replacement surgery in the next six months but in the meantime I wanted her to have as much mobility as possible. I won't take her on too many long hikes until after the surgery but until then the harness is great. The best part is the rear handle above the hips. I can lift her up onto anything without her being in pain when trying to use her own strength. I will continue to use the harness even after her surgery and we can do the great hikes we used to do in Colorado. /////yes
