It's great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We brought this backpacking and staked it out with tent stakes next to Chase's tie down. He seemed very comfortable on it and it stayed put all night. Overall I think this bed is great!

Thinking about getting a second one!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Great bed! Compact-able and Desmond seems to love it. Wherever I set it up, he knows where he's sleeping. Packs down super small, and is definitely worth the space in my pack!

Great for packing and on the road. Adds layer of insulation from the ground when frosty fall weather comes. Barely big enough for my Dutch Shepherd. Would be perfect for medium sized dogs

Its a bit small for a large dog, but will take up minimal tent floor space, and is light weight enough for backpacking

My canine companion(s): Labs

The Labs Love It!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

While I would love to see a larger size, neither of my Labs (55 lbs and 65 lbs) seem to mind. It is lightweight and packable, and it's been through the washer and dryer several times. I haven't camped with it, but it works great at hotels, in classes, and at events. I'm planning on getting a second one because it's just so darned handy.

Love the sleeping pad

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

As soon as I brought it home and laid it out on the floor, Finley immediately investigated the pad and then proceed to curl up right on top of it. Love at first sight! Seriously, she usually needs a little coaxing for new beds but this one needed no coaxing. I'm looking forward to trying it out when we do some backcountry camping this summer. My girl will have her very own pad to lie on.

Date of Review: 3/21/2012

We kick up our paws in: Texas

My canine companion(s): Salad Bar Mix

Love it

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have a mixed breed of lab and whatever else. She weighs just under 60 lbs. and fits perfectly on this. We took it on the last camping trip and she laid on it by the fire, then took it to the tent so she wasn't on my bag. For a dog a bit bigger than mine, they'll have to curl up to fit on it, but it's perfect for my lil girl. Dirt shakes off beautifully and it doesn't get soaked after she's been in the lake.

Great Backpacking Bed!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought this bed for my ACD, for backpacking and camping trips. It's great! I love that it still maintains it's shape and fluff even after several months. I also love that it packs up just like a sleeping bag, and will fit in my dog's pack, without adding a lot of weight. The loops underneath are perfect for staking it down too! The only thing I would say is that for larger breeds, it may be too small. My ACD is on the bigger end of the breed, and fits just right, unless he decides to stretch out.

My canine companion(s): Bernese Mountain Dog

Lightweight and Packable

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We do a lot of backcountry camping and canoeing with our 100Lb Bernese mountain dog. This pack fits perfectly in the Palisades pack with minimal weight, or can be attached to the outside of the pack easily with a carabiner. I would agree that it is a little on the small size it only fits about 1/2 of his body, not ideal but still a comfort after a hard day. And well it kept most of him off my sleeping bag. We did find that it got quite damp and stayed wet during longer wet camping trips. The tabs on the side where you can stake down the bed were really great to help air it out during the day. That said it a big hairy dog, it stayed quite clean. I would definitely recommend this bed for those concerned with size and weight. Perfect for dry conditions.

We kick up our paws in: Montana

My canine companion(s): 2 Seppala Huskies

Lightweight but too small

Would you recommend this product?.: No

One size doesn't fit all. We have two Seppala huskies (55 lbs each). Neither even slept halfway on the bed because it was so lightweight and thin, they didn't even realize it was there. They slept on top of me and my husband in our tent. For a smaller dog, it would probably work better. It was light enough to have them carry it on our backpacking trip, but it was pointless in even carrying the thing.

My canine companion(s): Lab

Great for backpacking

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My lab and I just returned from a short 3 day backpacking trip and the Highlands was perfect for hanging out at camp. My dog seemed to love having a dry spot to lay, and I loved not having to clean her off before heading inside the tent. I strapped the bed onto the top of the Palisades pack and the dog carried with with her the entire trip. Another great product for Fido friendly backpacking.

Although we haven't taken it camping yet, Millie already loves her Highlands bed. We have it in our office and it's great because it is small by plenty comfortable and easy to clean. Look forward to take it camping.

My canine companion(s): Big hound, little Cattle dog

great product

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I would love to see this mated with a something like a therma rest bottom. Maybe the therma rest slides into a pouch on the bottom so you don't have to use it all the time. This would be great all year but esp. for snow camping. I don't think a product like that exists. I'd buy the first one I saw. Or maybe if you use this idea you'd just send me a couple;)

My canine companion(s): Australian Shepherd & A Leonberger

Good for Backpacking

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We took this with us on our last week-long canoe trip to Algonquin. It really pulled the moisture away from our Aussie. Packs down perfectly and is lightweight. The stake out points on this help hold it to the ground well too. My only complaint is that it doesn't dry the quickest, but I was impressed with the product nonetheless.

light, great for warm or mild weather

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Lightweight, packs up small, and my dog definitely prefers it to laying on the bare ground when we're out in the wilderness for extended times. It's a little small for him - perhaps Ruffwear could consider making a larger size available. It's also too thin for cold weather use, so we have to bring extra insulation and a sleeping bag (also things I'd love to see from Ruffwear!) as soon as fall comes around. Great for average use in mild conditions though!

Perfect

I wanted a light weight and compact mat for my dog for day hikes (poodles object to lying on the bare ground). This bed is perfect in this respect and so well made. My pooch thinks it is super comfortable.

super packable and easy to clean

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We took our 'princess' backpacking; she won't carry a pack but loved the bed. She used it both in the vestibule at night and around camp to stay out of the dirt. She knows the bed is her "place". The bed is easy to carry and cleaned up great after the trip.

Great take-along bed, not just for camping

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We bought this for her to carry in her Palisades Pack while up at the cabin. Super light, easy to pack back up, and helped keep her cleaner than laying on the ground all the time. It really helped to keep her out of the way, because she knew where to lay.
We've started taking it with us to classes for this purpose.

Our dog enjoys this bed. It fits her perfectly. (She is about 45 pounds.) It's also very convenient to put in her pack and take with us. It also fits great under the garage portion of our 2 person ultra-light tent, where our dog stays with us.
