Good Pack Size/Weight

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Wanted something a little smaller for pack size/weight and this worked out great. Worked good for both dogs and cleaned well. Really liked the back size; it equalled my ground mat.

Almost Perfect

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased the highlands bed for when I take Orvis, my black labrador retriever mix out backpacking with me. He loves his bed so much he even sleeps on it at home in our bed or in his crate. When he doesn't want to sleep in my bed he grabs his bed in his mouth and brings it to his crate and sleeps on it. He won't sleep without his highlands bed. It packs down small and is very light. I would recommend making a down version instead of or in addition to the current synthetic.

Outstanding quality and color

This is in our guest room for Pierce to sleep on, rather than on the bed. It’s of beautiful fabric, with its own cover, well-constructed. Soft and good loft, with a silk-like fabric cover.

Just what I wanted

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My Siberian Husky and I go backpacking, and I'd discovered he wasn't too thrilled about lying right on the tent floor at night. He didn't really need any insulation (it's disgusting how he lazed out on the snow drifts during the several snowstorms this year like he was vacationing in Palm Beach), but he definitely needed something for padding against the hard ground. Rather than share my inflatable sleeping pad and lose another pad to his claws, I figured we'd try this out. It's a win-win: he can carry his own pad in his palisades pack and I can keep him off my pad, and he seems perfectly comfortable on it. It's just the right size for him (he's a shade under 50lbs but looks bigger because of his fluff). He also curls up well, so for people with larger dogs that sprawl out I can see how this is a problem. However, it's been perfect for my use, and is very well made.

Great Product!!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I liked the bed but it is WAY to small for a large breed dog. I really liked the features of this bed (lightweight for backpacking, waterproof and insulated underside) so I took a chance on the sizing hoping that it would work. Well when my dog laid down on it, I actually burst out laughing!!!! He had his front half on the bed & back half was way off the bed!! That was my bad, wish it came in a bigger size because I definitely loved it!!!!

Meh

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I love this company and you can see lots of thought went into this bed. However, it is the noisiest thing a dog can sleep on. Rover's nails and pads "scritch scratched" all night long on the material. Every toss and turn he made woke us up. Also, the medium size is way too small for a medium dog. Go a size up. I got this for our road trips but I will be looking for a different bed for him to sleep on at night.

Lightweight, functional but runs small

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased this bed for the intention of having a portable bed when we travel as well as prepping my pup for camping trips starting next spring. I wasn't sure how he will like it as I have purchased something comparable for indoor use only and he didn't care for it much and at times a random old towel works just as well for him. To my delight, my puppy loves it! It packs down small and very light weight. The only thing is it is a bit small so not sure how my dog will fit once full grown.

Poor

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I have purchased many expensive ruff wear items and I have been more than pleased with everything until the highland bed. I used it this past weekend in the adirondack mountains for my 55 lb lab. The temp dropped to 25F in the lean-to and belle shivered the entire night. The bed offered almost no insulation for her. Fortunately she had her ruff wear coat on to keep some heat in. Bottom line, the bed is very thin and the price is too high. I would not recommend this bed for any cold weather camping. It would probably work well when the temp is warm however I can not justify the price.

Super convenient, lightweight and compact

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I was told about this product from a Ruffwear employee and decided we should give it a try. We love to backpack, travel and camp a lot and since we have switched from tent camping to hammocks this has been one if the best invesemts for Roxy. She can stay more comfortable, warmer (since the material adds a cusion between her and the ground), and has an actual bed of her own. I definitely recommend this to any active/traveling family to keep everyone happy and rested. The added stake loops on the bottom will come in very handy with the next windy night!

Excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This bed is perfect for our pup! Used it for 5 month old Hunter's first backpack trip. It's also become his favorite bed at the house and is now the bottom layer bed in his crate. While he's still growing, looks like it will be the perfect size for backpacking when he's full grown. It held up great in the rocky Desolation Wilderness, and to Hunter's puppy teeth here at home!

The Labs Love It!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

While I would love to see a larger size, neither of my Labs (55 lbs and 65 lbs) seem to mind. It is lightweight and packable, and it's been through the washer and dryer several times. I haven't camped with it, but it works great at hotels, in classes, and at events. I'm planning on getting a second one because it's just so darned handy.

Love the sleeping pad

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

As soon as I brought it home and laid it out on the floor, Finley immediately investigated the pad and then proceed to curl up right on top of it. Love at first sight! Seriously, she usually needs a little coaxing for new beds but this one needed no coaxing. I'm looking forward to trying it out when we do some backcountry camping this summer. My girl will have her very own pad to lie on.

Love it

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have a mixed breed of lab and whatever else. She weighs just under 60 lbs. and fits perfectly on this. We took it on the last camping trip and she laid on it by the fire, then took it to the tent so she wasn't on my bag. For a dog a bit bigger than mine, they'll have to curl up to fit on it, but it's perfect for my lil girl. Dirt shakes off beautifully and it doesn't get soaked after she's been in the lake.

Great Backpacking Bed!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought this bed for my ACD, for backpacking and camping trips. It's great! I love that it still maintains it's shape and fluff even after several months. I also love that it packs up just like a sleeping bag, and will fit in my dog's pack, without adding a lot of weight. The loops underneath are perfect for staking it down too! The only thing I would say is that for larger breeds, it may be too small. My ACD is on the bigger end of the breed, and fits just right, unless he decides to stretch out.

Lightweight and Packable

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We do a lot of backcountry camping and canoeing with our 100Lb Bernese mountain dog. This pack fits perfectly in the Palisades pack with minimal weight, or can be attached to the outside of the pack easily with a carabiner. I would agree that it is a little on the small size it only fits about 1/2 of his body, not ideal but still a comfort after a hard day. And well it kept most of him off my sleeping bag. We did find that it got quite damp and stayed wet during longer wet camping trips. The tabs on the side where you can stake down the bed were really great to help air it out during the day. That said it a big hairy dog, it stayed quite clean. I would definitely recommend this bed for those concerned with size and weight. Perfect for dry conditions.

Lightweight but too small

Would you recommend this product?.: No

One size doesn't fit all. We have two Seppala huskies (55 lbs each). Neither even slept halfway on the bed because it was so lightweight and thin, they didn't even realize it was there. They slept on top of me and my husband in our tent. For a smaller dog, it would probably work better. It was light enough to have them carry it on our backpacking trip, but it was pointless in even carrying the thing.

Great for backpacking

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My lab and I just returned from a short 3 day backpacking trip and the Highlands was perfect for hanging out at camp. My dog seemed to love having a dry spot to lay, and I loved not having to clean her off before heading inside the tent. I strapped the bed onto the top of the Palisades pack and the dog carried with with her the entire trip. Another great product for Fido friendly backpacking.

I would love to see this mated with a something like a therma rest bottom. Maybe the therma rest slides into a pouch on the bottom so you don't have to use it all the time. This would be great all year but esp. for snow camping. I don't think a product like that exists. I'd buy the first one I saw. Or maybe if you use this idea you'd just send me a couple;)

We took this with us on our last week-long canoe trip to Algonquin. It really pulled the moisture away from our Aussie. Packs down perfectly and is lightweight. The stake out points on this help hold it to the ground well too. My only complaint is that it doesn't dry the quickest, but I was impressed with the product nonetheless.

light, great for warm or mild weather

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Lightweight, packs up small, and my dog definitely prefers it to laying on the bare ground when we're out in the wilderness for extended times. It's a little small for him - perhaps Ruffwear could consider making a larger size available. It's also too thin for cold weather use, so we have to bring extra insulation and a sleeping bag (also things I'd love to see from Ruffwear!) as soon as fall comes around. Great for average use in mild conditions though!

We bought this for her to carry in her Palisades Pack while up at the cabin. Super light, easy to pack back up, and helped keep her cleaner than laying on the ground all the time. It really helped to keep her out of the way, because she knew where to lay.
We've started taking it with us to classes for this purpose.
