My canine companion(s): APBT

Fantastic!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

After 4 years of use, Euki's K9 coat has somehow survived his abuse and is still in great condition. He loves it. It does not restrict his movement and Euki is quite obviously much warmer when wearing his coat! Thanks Ruffwear! Every dog needs one.

Good Quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I'm very pleased with this coat for my 75lb. male German Shepherd Dog (almost 35" girth). The coat is a bit shorter than I would like, but I wanted the coat to fit well in the body, so I went with the Large instead of the Extra Large. I plan to use this lighter weight coat when it is raining and snowing to keep him dry, and I wanted him to be able to be active without the coat sliding around on him. So far it has been great in the rain. If I had a dog with less fur, that needed a coat for warmth, I probably would have tried an Extra Large for more length. I am giving it only 4 stars instead of 5, only because of the fit/ length issue. Otherwise, you can't beat the quality of the coat! And my dog visibly prefers this coat over his previous one, so I am guessing he probably finds it comfortable too.

My canine companion(s): Labrador mix

Terrific

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The small size fits Lousi's body, which is long, and short-legged, but proportioned. However, for our second dog, Dexter, who is a Corgy/Jack Russel terrior mix, the XSmall opening for his head is too small for his neck. I would suggest making the neck opening adjustable, possibly a velcro closure. The rest of the XSmall fits, so I'm going to alter the neck by opening up the sewing myself. Let me know if you are planning to have an adjustable line, and I'll return the XSmall. Thanks!

Almost Perfect

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We live in sunny santa cruz but we wanted to take our new dog up to Tahoe to see the snow. He does not have a very thick coat so I bought him this coat and the cloud chaser. This ended up being a better fit for him and kept him warm and dry right up to the time he decided to jump in the creek. Only thing that would make it a bit better would be if the coat fit a bit closer on the back have some times it was lifting up

excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have 3 of the older overcoats in blue for my vizslas. When I inherited my german wirehair pointer, I needed to buy another coat, as the ones I had were too small and my vizsla wears the size my gwp needed. So, I bought one in the red. Improved style and I love it!! The red suits her ... Just wish it still came in blue, as red rather clashes with my vizslas!! But all the same, I love the coat!!

Fantastic!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We already own a Cloud Chaser coat for our female and bought the K-9 Overcoat as a second coat for her and for our very thin haired bulldog/pit mix foster dog to use while he is with us. Both dogs love the coats and they fit very well. We will buy Ruffwear again in the future due to prompt service, high quality, and durability! No cons as far as we can see!

fantastic!

Very well-made and keeps our foster pup very warm as he has very little fur. We purchased this as a second jacket for our Avery, but Apollo is using it while he stays with us. Will recommend his furever home purchases one for him! Our other dog has the cloud chaser jacket which has stood up well the past 3 years and she loves it on the really cold days We will continue to buy Ruffwear products as they are durable, great quality, and fit very well.

Dog's Name: Jezebel

Date of Review: 1/23/2013

We kick up our paws in: Reno, NV

My canine companion(s): 83 lb German Shepherd, Service Dog

Nice

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I originally ordered the Large, based on Jezzy's measurements and weight. When I tried it on her in the house, it seemed to fit well. I didn't realize until the next day when she wore it that it was much too big around the neck. Every time she laid down, the neck kept slipping down and over her shoulder, preventing her from getting up. I ordered the Medium and it arrived today. I'm surprised at the big difference between the sizes. The neck fits much better, looking to be about AT LEAST 4" smaller in circumference. The jacket is also significantly shorter than the Large. The Large reached almost to the base of her tail, as shown on the dogs in the photographs; the Medium doesn't even reach to her hips. However, it should keep Jezzy warmer than she would be without it this winter. Once I receive the refund on the Large, I'd like to order a Cloud Chaser for her, but I'll definitely talk to customer service before ordering!

My canine companion(s): Border Collie, black lab mix

Awesome!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

In his "wiser" years, Shadow just wasn't keeping warm enough. This coat is great. he loves it.... first time using it was hysterical... he dove head first and on his back into the snow and rolled around. I'd say that's a pretty rave review from him. Now, as soon as I pick it up, he comes over and puts his head in for me. :)

My canine companion(s): Golden Doodle

Rugged and Well Made

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Tried other coats for less money, and the just did not hold up. Oliver loves to run, roll in the snow, and roughhouse with his canine pals at the park - so I needed something durable - but nothing that would restrict his movements. Works great and the red looks awesome against his black coat. Love the stretchable buckle straps which are semi-hidden on the sides. They hold the coat securely in place. Very well made product.

Date of Review: 1/14/2013

We kick up our paws in: North Carolina Foothills

My canine companion(s): German Shorthair Pointer

Great fit and great performance!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We looked long and hard for a coat that could keep up with our active guy and fit was a challenge since he has a very athletic build (50 lbs., deep chest, slender midsection and long body). We tried the Ruff Wear fleece jacket prior to the Overcoat but the length of the under belly portion would have prevented him from being able to go to the bathroom :-( and we really wanted something resistant to wet elements. The K-9 Overcoat was the solution! The coat fits him fantastically and the stretch in the buckle straps keeps the coat in place without restricting his movement. We've had him out in the rain for several walks since get this and it's performed great each time. Thanks to Ruff Wear for making such a great product and to Great Outdoor Provisions Co. for carrying it locally!

Dog's Name: Deuce

Date of Review: 1/11/2013

We kick up our paws in: Washington, DC

My canine companion(s): Pit Bull/American Bulldog Mix

Loooove this!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Love this coat! I bought this for my 65 lb. Pittie-American Bulldog mix, Deuce, in time for a recent trip to NH over the holidays. We live in DC, which is typically pretty temperate but can get nasty in the winter. Deuce rarely seems fazed by the cold, but he has zero undercoat and is almost bare on his belly and he hates haaaaaates getting wet. We also have the added challenge of his super thick neck and chest with a lean body. This coat rocks! I followed the suggested sizing guidelines and ordered a medium and it's fits like a glove! He seems super comfy and cozy in it and it's been great for the chilly rain and wind typical of DC winters. What's more, when we brought him up to my parent's farm in NH over Christmas, we got hit with 22+ inches of snow and below freezing temps and this coat had him keeping up with the country dogs no problem. Whether playing in the snow, hiking and running around in the woods, or wrestling with his "cousins," this jacket stayed on securely without tearing or snagging. The two side buckles make for easy on and off, and I also loved that the bright color (we got the red currant) and reflective strip made it much easier to keep track of him in the woods -- he's fawn and white, so he tends to blend right in to just about everything this time of year. I would definitely recommend this (and have!) to just about anyone -- you won't be disappointed!

We kick up our paws in: Eugene, Oregon

My canine companion(s): Staffordshire Terrier-hound mix

Fantastic quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This product exceeded all expectations. I recently took my dog to the coast and he accidentally ended up in the pacific ocean. When he got out I expected him, and the jacket to be soaked, and him freezing. However, he was relatively dry, and the coat had wicked away so much moisture that I could barely tell it had been submerged. Both my dog and the jacket dried quickly. This jacket keeps my dog warm and dry on rainy days and seems to be comfortable for him to wear. The reflector lines are a nice touch. I thought the coat runs a little large, but not much, mostly longer than I expected but whats wrong with a little tail cover? I would definitely recommend this product. Totally worth every penny. IF I ever have to buy another jacket I will go with ruffwear.

Great All Purpose Coat

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We keep our Goldendoodle's coat short for easy maintenance because his coat gets matted easily. With Winter in full swing we have been searching around for a coat to keep him warm, yet still allow him full range of motion as he is very athletic and playful and this overcoat has done wonders. It keeps him warm while we are out playing in the snow and doesn't chafe his sensitive skin. I love how easy it is to take on and off and that the snaps are protected so they don't get caught in brush or clogged by snow. At 55lbs the medium fits his body well and is the perfect length. Thanks for such a great product!

This is second K-9 coat we have purchased. This one, being newer is slightly different, and a wee bit longer. This new was purchased for our younger dog, who is slightly smaller than our older one, but fits the older model well, so, the younger dog got the older coat. Both dogs now have well fitting coats. With our climate, it is great having mostly dry dogs after our five mile walk every morning.

Fantastic

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Not only does her overcoat keep thin skinned Dixie warm, but it stands up to her Boxer charges up and down the brush covered banks, and nothing hangs up on the branches. At first I thought the trim was merely pretty, but then the first time she wore her overcoat and didn't want to come in at dusk, that trim showed me just where to direct my Come command and make eye contact. No more fooling me that she hadn't heard the command! I am recommending her Ruffwear to all the members of our Obedience class.

My canine companion(s): Catahoula

Perfect for winter!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This jacket is perfect. We have a 40lb Catahoula (hound) who has very thin fur and not a single ounce of fat on his body. Our Mal does just fine in the winter, but the little guy is going to need help staying warm. Enter the Overcoat. The construction is sturdy, the materials are thick and high-quality, and the fit is perfect. It does stick out a bit on the sides near his bum, but I think it's because he's so thin. I'm guessing once the jacket gets more wear and gets washed once or twice the material will relax and fall nicely in the back. Covers his entire torso, fits perfectly around his neck, and covers enough of his belly to keep it dry and warm without getting in the way of needing to go to the bathroom. Extremely happy with this purchase!

We kick up our paws in: Woerden, The Netherlands

My canine companion(s): Scottish terrier

Great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

First we had an earlier model. Good quality, but when we went hiking in Scotland with the dog, the jacket was hanging crooked. This jack also was just too short for the dog, because a Scottish terrier has a relatively long back. Now, the current model falls over her entire back. The coat is very easy to put on and take off. Great improvement! The only downside is that the size of the neck is very small and high. It is slightly more difficult to put a collar around her neck. The previous model had a stretch-piece in the neck, so that when the dog got a longer coat, the size of the neck of the jacket also stretched.

Versatile

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased the 2011 K-9 Overcoat to keep Dixie cold and dry in the city and on camping trips. I love the fact that there are two buckles (unlike our Web Master Harness). The fabric seems tough and the color is bright. It comes clean in the washing machine. She definitely stays warm on those cold camping nights. My only complaint is that the fitting isn't perfect. Dixie is 55lbs and wears a medium. While the girth is fine, the neck is tight. I don't think we could go to a large as I have the chest straps as short as they will go. She's worn it for over a year without chafing, but I still might expand the neck with my mediocre sewing skills.

We swear by this jacket! We've tried every brand and model, and never found a better fit or durability! This jacket is great for walks in the fall and winter! I love how the K-9 Overcoat wraps around my dog's belly! This is a great feature for the dog park in the winter when things get slushy! We've taken this jacket hiking and it packs down right into our pack great! I love the spot for a beacon and the reflective piping along the back! Great for back packing!

This is my second order of this coat. the first time, i ordered a medium for one dog and a large for Indie. the large fit around her neck and chest but was too long. Indie went on a diet in late December as she had put on weight while we had company from Thanksgiving to New Year's. She has slimmed back down to her optimum size and now a medium fits. She gave her large to her Lab friend, Casey, who is also quite pleased with her new jacket. would like to see these jackets in short, regular and long to accommodate more body types but it is a great product, very study and easy to get on and off.

I recently bought an XL for the female who weighs in at 90 lbs, so got the newer model. Overall its the same well made jacket but updated with new features such as color and hidden buckles. I highly recommend this jacket for an all around well priced garment.

The size is perfect as it allows Grace a great deal of freedom of movement. I especially like the durable fabric, quality and the fact that it is light-weight. We hike in the Sandia Mountains on a weekly basis and my main concern was how quickly the weather changes in higher elevations. Even though she is a lab and loves cold weather, I want her to remain safe and as dry as possible when unexpected snow or rain occurs on our 4 hour hikes and the K-9 Overcoat is perfect. I am extremely pleased and Grace is happy it doesn't hinder her enjoyment. Plus she looks great in the forest green coat. Thanks Ruff Wear for such a high quality product!

Best I've seen!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My Standard Poodle (Eddie) is hard to fit. His chest is deep, back is long and overall size is small (withers: 24"/weight: 40 lbs). Last year I ordered a coat (different brand/company) and the leg openings were too small. After contacting that company, I re-ordered a size larger hoping it would fit. The leg openings were still too small! I had to pay to return both coats. This year I found the RuffWear website. After reading all the reviews, I decided to try the K-9 coat. I wanted the coat to cover my dog's back. From the chart, it looked like a medium would work for his chest size. However, the chart didn't give a back length. I emailed customer service with my dog's back measurement and asked the length of the medium coat. I received a prompt reply with the length of the medium coat and placed my order. The coat arrived and the back length fit perfectly! I did have to tighten the adjustable buckles to make the coat as small as possible to fit his chest but it fits great! I really like that the buckles are hidden from view. The coat is very well made and worth the money! Eddie loves to play in the snow! This coat keeps him warm and dry! Don't hesitate to buy this product!

EXCELLENT

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I live in a very cold climate with heavy snow, and although my lab hasn't needed protection before, with her advancing age, I've noticed that she shivers if she is outside too long. So this year I started a search for a coat for her. My Bichon has always needed a coat, and finding sizing has been difficult due to his short legs and the fact that most jackets just don't fit him well. I am so impressed with this jacket...the sizing is perfect. Be sure to measure your dog. I love the elastic stretchy bands that are adjustable in the tummy area, which is where both of my dogs have trouble fitting in other coats. This gives extra breathing room for my older lab who has a bit of extra pudge in that area due to her age, and my Bichon is just built with a big tummy, so he has trouble fitting in other coats. I am also impressed with the quality of how well the coat is made...I am a seamstress, and am knowledgable about fabrics and sewing. This coat is made to last for many years and is well worth the extra cost, than other cheaply made coats that I have purchased in the past. With the adjustable elastic band, I know that if my dogs gain or lose weight, this coat will still fit them for years to come. I have never seen such heavy duty stitching...these jackets are made to last. The fabric is rip proof....my lab doesn't even know she has it on. She runs thru brush and the fabric wears like iron. The inside is a very soft fleece, so the outside fabric doesn't touch their skin/fur. It's completely waterproof, yet after all the running around they do, neither of them end up sweating inside their coats because the fabric is breathable. There is also a grey stripe sewn all around the entire coat, that looks like a trim piece, but when you shine a light on it, it lights up as if there is a lightbulb hidden inside! The entire coat glows! You can see the coat a mile away at night with any light shinning on it....a great safety feature. I had to call customer service because my lab was in between 2 sizes, and they were extremely helpful. My coats arrived in 2 days. I walk my dogs on groomed snow trails primarily, but I am considering buying the boots for them if I do any snowshoeing in the woods this year. This company makes quality products and I have no doubt that anything else I purchase will be a great investment for my pooches. I've been buying coats for many years, for my other dogs I've owned who have now gone on to the Rainbow Bridge, and these are the first coats I've ever had that are designed the way they should be. Obviously, I can't say enough great things about them. It's so hard to find such good quality anywhere, anymore. Thank you, Ruff Wear!

We have tried other coats and this one is by far the best. It has the fleece inside and the water resistant outside which keeps him both warm and dry. It doesn't reach all the way down to the base of his tail, but that's not an issue. It's his upper body and chest that we want protected and warm and it can be adjusted for a snug fit. He likes to run a lot and fast, so it meets HIS needs and he looks forward, with a wagging tail, to Dad putting it on him. We would recommend this to anyone.

After shopping around a lot I knew I could come back to Ruffwear and get a quality coat. Zero wore the K9 overcoat out to play in our first snowstorm last night, it was pretty cold, and he wasn't fazed. He's really short-haired and we're so happy to have something to protect him from the cold so we can still have adventures. It's just a bit cape-like in the back when he turns his upper body from side to side, but not really an issue. He doesn't seem to mind it either, almost seemed like he was prancing. Zero is around 60-65lbs with a girth of 29. We got the medium, he has the size medium approach pack also. Love it.

Fit is difficult

Would you recommend this product?.: No

We measured our dog according to the size chart provided and determined he needed a medium coat. It was HUGE on him. So we returned it and ordered the small, which was TINY on him. Even adjusting both coats as much as possible did not make them fit. I think the coats should be fit with more measurements than just the dog's chest size. Our dog has an unusually large chest, which I guess was the problem. I'm sure it's a great coat, but we couldn't make it work. I also think it's unfortunate that we had to pay for the shipping on two coats PLUS the return shipping, and we weren't even able to keep either one of them.

durable and looks great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Just got our first overcoat in the mail yesterday! We have a 1 year old German Shorthaired with a girth of 29", so we ordered the medium in forest green. The size seems appropriate in girth however the length extends to the tip of her tail and is a little cape-like in the back, maybe because she's just thin and narrow. When she walks nicely with her head held high it falls great on her back though and gives her good coverage. Seemed to keep her nice and warm in the breezy/drizzly wind on a walk yesterday and I'm sure we'll be getting much more use out of it! We also have the cloud chaser in medium which fits her like a glove and the fleece in medium which we've also been thrilled about. Even thought about layering the fleece with this in extreme cold if needed.
