Poor Quality

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I purchased this collar because I loved the round, minimalist look. However, after just a few days being worn by my non-pulling dog the collar began to fray around the metal hardware. In less than a month the hardware had cut through the collar and it was no longer usable!

really quite nice

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I initially got this collar for our larger dog- who is a shepherd cross, i didnt head the comments, and saw that it runs small ( if you want more of the collar to have the doubled up rope) and it just didnt look right on him.. But, squirrel LOVES it, she has a fairly tiny neck, but it fits her litterally perfect.. and she thinks shes pretty in it. we tried it on and she wouldnt let us remove it after that. it looks flashy and works well. she loves it. and thats what matters :)

Stylish and well designed. It is light weight and does not bother Truman while wearing it for long periods of time, unlike other collars we have tried. The collar is also very durable and we have no issues with it loosening when tugged.

We kick up our paws in: Omaha, Ne

My canine companion(s): Long Coated Akita

Excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Parkers long coat mats very easily when he wears a collar or it turns gray from the metal. I had been letting him go naked in the house to prevent the above problems, however he got out one day. After that I tried many collars looking for something that I could hang his tags on that wouldn't cause problems. This knot a collar is prefect, because of his size I don't use it for controlling him on our daily walks, it might be OK I just don't want to take any chances.

Looks great, very well constructed, and rugged. Holds nice and tight even when grabbing it and Tank is tugging away. Color is very visible at night and lays nicely around his neck keeping it from being and irritant. Tank is about 60 lbs and this collar will be able to grow as he does.

I like the look of this collar. I does loosen up some if your dog pulls and they could slip there head out. The aluminum piece of the collar leaves grey marks on white dogs. I would not recommend this collar for walking, any of the other Ruffwear collars would be a better choice.

great attention to deal, kiss principal perfectly executed

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have many collars for Parker, he doesn't like to be naked dog. Many of the collars I have mat his fur around his neck if worn too long. Round collars don't seem to do this, he broke his last one so was in need of a new collar when I found Ruff wear at my Backwoods store. They didn't have his size, so I ordered online. I also purchased a chain reaction collar and a new lead at the same time. I am using the top knot collar for his tags only. At a 130 lbs when he hits the end of his run lead things tend to come apart.

Beautiful collar! It looks great on my GSD, it doesn't make his fur stand up awkwardly compared to thicker collars. It seems to be comfortable on him. I don't walk him using this collar but if I ever do have to connect the leash to it, it holds up just fine.

My canine companion(s): Shepherd/Malamute mix

Fantastic!!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Love this collar! It is nice and lightweight, yet substantial. My dog has thick Malamute fur and this collar does not matt his fur down. The Knot-a-Leash goes great with the clip on this collar. I have not had any issues with the collar loosening. The reflective silver in the collar also shows up nicely at night when reflecting light.

Date of Review: 9/12/2013

We kick up our paws in: NY

My canine companion(s): Rottweiler

I love it!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I absolutely love this collar. I looked everywhere for a thin, strong rope collar suitable for a large dog (110lbs). The only types I could find we're the thick belt kind - leather, plastic, nylon, etc. I hate how they damage a dogs neck fur. Finally, I found the knot-a-collar and ordered it. It looks great! Is super easy to get on and off! Slides easily into a high-neck walking position, and has a tag "silencer" on the loop. I could not be happier. My dog will never wear anything else!

My canine companion(s): Golden Retriever

Comfortable and stylish

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We love this collar. It settles well in thicker/longer fur, and doesn't rub the fur at all. It's great for holding ID tags. The knots do loosen a bit of your dog is a puller, but otherwise I haven't noticed it loosens very much. Do keep in mind that this new version does NOT have a safety release buckle, which is disappointing. We've used the older versions (with a buckle) in the past, and having the buckle actually saved his life when his collar got caught around the bottom jaw of his companion, and he started suffocating. Something to keep in mind! If you're okay with using a collar with no safety release, this is definitely a great option.

Not for extra large dogs

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The large size Knot-a-Collar is not large or thick enough for a 165 lb dog. By the time the collar is enlarged enough, it appears to be just one thin rope, not the double shown in the picture. I'll throw the old, thicker Knot-a-Collar in the wash. Seems like a good product for normal size dogs. XL or XXL would be appreciated.

FABULOUS!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This collar (in red to compliment Hinckley's coloring!) is stylish and comfortable! It dries quickly (Hinckley likes to roll around on the wet grass at the golf course!) and always looks stunning! It is designed extremely well especially in relation to placement of tags and ID as well as the hook for the leash and easy adjustment for length. Our favorite collar!

Good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The collar was less durable feeling than I expected and hard to adjust. Meaning if I had to pull his collar off in a hurry it wouldnt happen. But my overall impresssion of the product is still good because it is so unique and he is the only pup I know with this collar. All and All good. But just not as durable and bulky as I was hoping for. He is a big dog so I felt he needed a more sustantial collar but if you have a smaller dog I think this would work just fine.

This collar is perfect for my dog's long hair. It never gets matted and stays at exactly the right size. I have not had to resize it yet. I use it for regular walking when I'm not using her halti - we take quick trips and sometimes I don't have the halti with me but there's always a leash in the car.

Date of Review: 7/11/2013

My canine companion(s): Siberian Husky

Pretty, not completely practical.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I would only recommend this collar to people who walk their dog with the leash on a harness, not the collar. This collar works great for us for two reasons: 1) the round rope sits nicely in my husky's thicker and longer fur and doesn't cause matting. 2) we don't clip her leash to her collar, we use a harness for walking. It's a beautiful collar that looks nicer because it's more of a "necklace" than a binding collar and it serves the purpose of holding her tags should she ever get lost. However, it does loosen on it's own, and quite easily. We keep it somewhat loose since we don't attach the leash to it, but sometimes I have tightened it up and put the leash on it for a couple of minutes to walk down the block and it is far looser by the time I take the leash off again. Additionally, for the front metal piece to sit nicely the top of the two parallel ropes should ideally be pulled tighter than the bottom but bc of the way the knot is created this further assists the leash in loosening because the knot slides on the bottom rope. If it was the opposite it would not loosen as easily and the metal piece could sit flatter on the neck/chest. Another comment, can you design the knots to be flatter. The knot presses into my dogs neck is she lays directly on it. Often the collar rotates so this doesn't happen, but is this possible to do? I'll use this as an opportunity to also request that Ruffwear make a walking harness. A collar like this is perfect for holding your dog's tags for safety. Most city dogs in Seattle walk on harnesses (it's healthier on their neck and facilitates training, we use the Easy Walker harness). Sita has so much Ruffwear gear and we love it all! We would love if her daily city harness was Ruffwear too :) The ruffwear harnesses are great for hiking and adventuring, what about something low key just for a walk around the park? I'm thinking the Flat-out leash material would be perfect.

Thumbs Up!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Zi-girl and I like this collar. It is light weight and good looking. Zion cannot resist water and the knots loosen after a good swim, so I'm having to readjust it each time. However, overall it is great. I like the tag silencer. It is not large enough to silence, but lessens the clinking.

looks cool, but not the best collar

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I love the way the knot-a-collar looks, but it doesn't get the job done. If my dog turns her head the wrong way and I'm not paying attention, she slips out of it without a struggle. No matter how much I tighten it, she still gets out. She's never escaped (or tried to escape) from any other collar. I'm bummed. I LOVED the look of it, but we've switched to using a traditional collar instead.

Great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Great looking collar. I attach the leash to her harness, so this is just used to hang her ID tag (Red Dingo brand tag). She looks very cute and rugged. Like some others commented in the reviews, it is a bit thin for a big dog, so I probably wouldn't ever use this with a leash attached to it, but it looks good on her and doesn't look too small or anything. Love the red collar against her blue fur. Also, some people have commented that it's hard to adjust...I am a not-so-strong woman and had no problem adjusting it...it's not loose enough that it's going to change sizes while she's wearing it, but it certainly wasn't difficult to adjust to fit her.

I love it

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought the Knot-a-collar to match the Knot-a-leash and I love the collar just as much as the leash. I love the look and the design and its adjustible which is great. All around a great product that looks good. I love how it's low profile and doesn't scruntch up Fielder's fur. Adding the dogtag silencer was a great idea also. Like I said just an all around great product. - Mike and Fielder

Great w/ the right conditions

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Works perfectly for my conditions; a dog that doesn't pull or roam around. Of the review I've read the theme seems pretty consistent: It looks thicker in the pics...so if you're looking for a collar that stands out, this isn't it. Likewise I could see how it wouldn't be ideal for a dog who pulls while on leash (especially for dogs that want to escape; the nature of the slide-over vs. latch means that the dog can always get out if it's what they want.) And lastly, I suppose the knots could slip with extended use; so what...tighten them up again. But if your looking for a simple high quality collar; this is a great option. Bonus point if you match it with the leash.

Handsome

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Basil has a thick, lion like neck. Flat collars were making an unattractive dent in his fur and I wanted a rolled collar. He loves his Ruffwear knot and the problem has been alleviated! He looks "cool and comfortable". Design of collar is unique, well made and sporty.

Love it - Not practical

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I purchased this collar in Aug. 2012 for my Lab Mix. (five months) Sadie and I walk every day to retrieve the paper and mail. She typically is not a puller on her leash and only weighs 40 lbs. However, I noticed that the hardware used to attach the leash is cutting into the collar. The outer threads are completely cut and I can now see the black filament. I love the collar but this is just not practical for daily use.

great quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I really like this collar. I had been looking for a nice easy on and off collar when I came across this one. I bought it as I really wanted the knot a leash. It turned out to be perfect and its rope so he can't wiggle out of it like a loose strap collar but its flexible enough to be slipped on and off with out adjusting it. My favotie thing about the collar is the big leash ring, for two reasons. I jave a furry dog and its easy to find, ut also because the ring stays on his back as most of the collar weight is on his chest. I can always find it when i need to clip on the leash vs his last collar whete id have to hold him down and find the ring. I have recieved a lot of comments at the dog parks about the collar and Ziggy seams to like it as well

Just ok.

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I purchased the Know-a-Collar. I like the color and it looks well made. But I will be returning it and exchanging it for the Top Rope collar instead. The knot-a-collar is not robust enough for my pitbull. I need something with a little thicker and bigger. Probably best for smaller breed dogs.

Like the collar, adjusting leaves some to be desired as you must adjust while on the dog and its design makes it difficult to adjust and keep things like the leash hook in place.

Nice

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

A very nice little low profile collar. Love that it's made from climbing rope...very non conventional. I find that this is a great collar to keep the id tags on, not the best for actually restraining though. My husky is really strong and keeping a hold on the collar while he is pulling the other way can sometimes cause the collar to loosen to it's biggest fit and slip off. Otherwise, great!

Big improvement

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I had the old Knot-a-Collars. While they served a purpose, these are a grat improvement. The lead is easier to attach, and the ID tag solution much improved (I used to attach them my own way). These are currently my dogs 'wear all the time - just incase' collars. My guys don't need a lead, while one is attached for council regulations, the collar is not used as a form of control. I have it loose enough so it fits over their heads to take off if I want. The Medium does my girl about as big as it will go, and I brough a large for my boy, as he has a bigger head to get it over!

Purchased this collar with the Knot-a-Leash. Thought the concept was cool but really not to thrilled with the collar. The rope is much thiner than I had anticipated and not as simple as I had hoped to adjust. After a few weeks we were back to a normal collar.

I actually purchased this collar as a addition to get free shipping. This is the only item I kept. There are not a lot of alternatives to this rope collar on the market and it works ok so I kept it. It is quite stiff and not the easiest thing to adjust but once you get it adjusted its ok. I leave it a bit looser so I can slip it off my dog at night. I love the way the collar looks, very natural and not quite so domesticated. It is very lightweight but will not work for everyone that is for sure.

Fabulous!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I was looking for a non-buckle collar that wasn't a choke or martingale. This collar is very low profile and attractive. It's easy to adjust, but does slip some if the dog pulls. I wouldn't recommend it for a dog that is a puller. However, I do OB with my dogs and wanted something I could compete in that would stay put on their necks. This collar is fabulous for that. It stays right behind their ears. My one caveat would be that tags just don't stay on that little metal thingy. I lost two sets of fairly expensive tags letting my dogs crash around in the bushes.

I'm really glad I bought this collar for my G.S. I love the reflective threading thoughout, and the fact that it won't mat his fur. Like collar very much . Not a big fan of leaving collars on my past dogs I like the naked look of my dogs , plus seems to be alot more comfortable for dogs. With this collar I can barely tell she has a collar on and she seems less annoyed to be wearing it. Very pleased with overall look & function. Will be purchasing more products soon . Thanx Ruff Wear . Wish more stufff was available in retail though waiting for delivery kinda sucks.

Lakota is a trailing dog doing SAR work so the collar with a vest is less restrictive around her neck. I do have to adjust the knots sometimes but I think it's from the other dogs grabbing it when they play.

Unique

This collar would really be an awesome product if it could be personalized. If the front metal plate would be made a bit longer, it would be the perfect place to engrave the dog tag info. This would make the dog tag completely secure and would not dangel like regular dog tags that sometimes get caught and break off. You may not be in the business of engraving dog tags into your products, but it would really set this collar apart from all the others.

I was concerned that maybe the slip knot design wouldn't be as reliable as the Hoopie collar but it is! Believe me, once you have the collar adjusted to the right size, it's not moving unless you decide to adjust it yourself. And it's very stylish and looks just like a climbing rope. Wyatt gets even more compliments than he did before!

I really like the idea of this design, thinking it would feel like less of an intrusion on my dog's neck, be lower profile. But I was kinda hoping the rope would be thicker. As it is, I'm a bit concerned about how it feels on my dog's neck in a situation where I need to correct her. Probably would've returned it if I had realized this earlier.

I love this collar. I got the gray one for my Husky. It kinda blends in with her fur, and I like that. It looks comfortable on her too.

I love this collar for my APBT. He doesn't have thick fur around his neck but what I love about this is the fact that there are no clips or buckles that may fail, and the fisherman's knot adjustment makes for a secure fit. The reflective trim is an added safety bonus that I like, and I also enjoy how unobtrusive the collar is on him; you know he's wearing one but it's not bulky or overwhelming. . Another great product by Ruffwear!

Great for the out doors!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love my knot-a-collar! I use this collar specifically for the purpose of holding my dog's tags. It has the ability to be clipped to a leash but I use the slip leash that Ruff wear sells. It's low key, hangs low on the neck, not to mention it's very nice to look at. I especially love it because I take my dog hiking a lot and it doesn't rub on his neck or limit his movement while we're walking. I love that the knots are adjustable! They're a little hard to pull at first but that's a good thing because it means they wont come undone!
