Superb

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

For the last 2 years of our 12 year old lab's life she's been rocking this collar and it's held up like a champ. I've never had issues with the knots and it looked like new the day we lost her and turned it into bracelets to wear in her remembrance. I'm here now looking for a collar for the new puppy we're about to bring home and my only complaint is that it seems this collar won't come small enough to fit the little fur ball. We'll have to wait until she's grown a bit bigger to get her this great piece of gear. This was a great collar for a very large, wiggly, strong black lab who did plenty of pulling on a leash.

Love it!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I wanted a nice low profile collar for my pup, and this collar really fits the bill. As mentioned in other reviews, it tucks away nicely in her fur, but when it does peak out I LOVE the purple color! Roo is almost 12 yrs old now, and she's pretty laid back, so I haven't experienced her really pulling on the leash, but I haven't had any problems with it loosening up yet. The leash attachment loop is very handy, and always seems to be on top of her neck (did they design it that way?!?). The reflective piping is always a great feature at night. Overall love this collar, but if you have a real puller you might want to consider the Crag or one of the other great collars!

Nice collar!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought this collar as a tag collar/everyday collar and I really like it so far. I haven't attached a leash to it except for a couple short walks, but it has held up well. It hides well under his fur. He is also a show dog and I wanted to have a collar that wouldn't break his fur too much but hold his tags. It has been great for that! My rolled leather collar fell apart because it got wet multiple times, and this was a great replacement. Now I just need one for my other dog!

Great concept, but loosens constantly

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I absolutely love the concept of this. It is light weight. I think it would work great if you have a dog that never pulls. However, when my dog sees a cat, or wants to pull in any direction for anything, the knots slip down and the collar becomes loose.

Unique

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought this collar because it said that it was comfortable and used for everyday wear. My first impression was it gave my dog a unique collar that retained some sense of masculinity for her owner. While I tend to try and break stereotypical gender boundaries, I don't like my female dog wearing pink, bows, or anything to fru fru. That's just my personal preference. So I bought this collar because it gave her that awesome style and it was essentially gender neutral. It fits well, seems to be comfortable as she doesn't bother it. My only complaint is the rope is thinner than it looks online. I wished they had used a thicker climbing rope for construction. This one hides in her fur just a little more than I'd like. But overall its a great product, and my dog and I both like it.

Stylish and Simple

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love the simplicity and look of this collar. He has a lot of fur and loose skin around his neck and this is the only collar I've found aside from leather (which he breaks) that doesn't mat his fur or pinch his skin. However, I wish there was a 10mm option like the coordinating leash. He's a large dog and I sometimes worry about the strength of the collar/rope when he pulls and would feel more comfortable with something a bit thicker. But its held up great so far!

I haven't had any problems with this collar. I keep it loose enough that it can be slipped off at night. I tightened the knots down by hand and they have stayed tight. I like the orientation of the leash clip and there is enough room for all my dog's tags including her chip tag. I will be buying another

Great Quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love rock climbing so this collar was a must. Having the leash clip-in always sitting on top of my dog's neck is wonderful. This silencer also is great for when she plays with her sister. It is very easy to adjust and the material is very durable. It has already seen months of salt water and sand and still looks brand new. I can't wait for my puppy to get big enough so I can buy her one!

Impressed

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love the fact that the collar is weighted so the V-ring is always on time. Took me a few days to get used to that, but now that I know, finding the attachment point on her leash is an effortless process. Because she has thick fur, it is a cool extra feature I didn't count on when purchasing. Similarly, with her fur being so thick, I no longer have issues with matted fur near her collar. I have been able to brush her without issue or removal as she actually enjoys being brushed near the collar now. Something that never happened in the past. The added silencer make the two tags she already had silenced nearly impossible to hear, so now when she wanders in the middle of the night, I can continue to sleep. It would be nice to be able to get the silencers separately so I can add a third tag if I needed to. I'm sure it is offered with a phone call, as I was able to get other spare parts from Ruffwear with just a phone call or email. My only gripe is the Quick Ring. I thought it was a good idea when I first saw it, but it was far from quick. More of a hindrance than a help. Lastly, the color of purple used is subtle but visible. It is not too dark and with the reflective weave, looks good on her.

I have had this on my dog for about a year now, and walk my husky on it everyday, its never gotten loose like many talk about, if anything I find it too hard to get it to loosen when I need to take it off her for baths and such. After about a year its starting to smell (Maya is in rivers/lakes/ponds/pools often and I never expected it to go this long before it realy started to smell), so I will likely be getting another one soon

Don't buy this collar!

Would you recommend this product?.: No

This collar is a great concept, but not worth the money! The knots loosened too easily and it would get stuck in my dog's mouth, creating immense discomfort on her part. I've now gone through 2 of these collars, and they broke very easily, that's almost $50 and I still have to find a new collar! She could slip out of them and after a few moments alone she ripped it to pieces. I'm sadly disappointed, I bought the Knot-a-Leash to match and it's a wonderful product. This collar though? Avoid it like the plague!

Great look, and practical

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I like the look of this collar quite a lot, and the design keeping the tags in the front and leash attachment in the back is perfect for my dog. He likes to pull when we first start our walks, and he's completely destroyed his tags befor, so keeping them separate is a great idea. I also have to agree with two of the other reviews I read: 1. It would be great if the leash connection doubled as a bottle opener, lol 2. The rope would be better if it was a larger diameter like a climbing rope.

Light weight- recommended? - MAYBE

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Honestly, I am not sure about my satisfaction of collar. I like it for Doc because he is an older dog and has a mole near the collar area. The collar is light and does not rub or irritate his mole. If he was younger and did not have a mole, I most likely would not be satisfied. In my opinion, it was an expensive considering what the collar is. For those of you who have horses, the material of the collar is the same as a rope halter.

Parkers long coat mats very easily when he wears a collar or it turns gray from the metal. I had been letting him go naked in the house to prevent the above problems, however he got out one day. After that I tried many collars looking for something that I could hang his tags on that wouldn't cause problems. This knot a collar is prefect, because of his size I don't use it for controlling him on our daily walks, it might be OK I just don't want to take any chances.

I have many collars for Parker, he doesn't like to be naked dog. Many of the collars I have mat his fur around his neck if worn too long. Round collars don't seem to do this, he broke his last one so was in need of a new collar when I found Ruff wear at my Backwoods store. They didn't have his size, so I ordered online. I also purchased a chain reaction collar and a new lead at the same time. I am using the top knot collar for his tags only. At a 130 lbs when he hits the end of his run lead things tend to come apart.

I absolutely love this collar. I looked everywhere for a thin, strong rope collar suitable for a large dog (110lbs). The only types I could find we're the thick belt kind - leather, plastic, nylon, etc. I hate how they damage a dogs neck fur. Finally, I found the knot-a-collar and ordered it. It looks great! Is super easy to get on and off! Slides easily into a high-neck walking position, and has a tag "silencer" on the loop. I could not be happier. My dog will never wear anything else!

We love this collar. It settles well in thicker/longer fur, and doesn't rub the fur at all. It's great for holding ID tags. The knots do loosen a bit of your dog is a puller, but otherwise I haven't noticed it loosens very much. Do keep in mind that this new version does NOT have a safety release buckle, which is disappointing. We've used the older versions (with a buckle) in the past, and having the buckle actually saved his life when his collar got caught around the bottom jaw of his companion, and he started suffocating. Something to keep in mind! If you're okay with using a collar with no safety release, this is definitely a great option.

Not for extra large dogs

The large size Knot-a-Collar is not large or thick enough for a 165 lb dog. By the time the collar is enlarged enough, it appears to be just one thin rope, not the double shown in the picture. I'll throw the old, thicker Knot-a-Collar in the wash. Seems like a good product for normal size dogs. XL or XXL would be appreciated.

But my overall impresssion of the product is still good because it is so unique and he is the only pup I know with this collar. All and All good. But just not as durable and bulky as I was hoping for. He is a big dog so I felt he needed a more sustantial collar but if you have a smaller dog I think this would work just fine.

This collar is perfect for my dog's long hair. It never gets matted and stays at exactly the right size. I have not had to resize it yet. I use it for regular walking when I'm not using her halti - we take quick trips and sometimes I don't have the halti with me but there's always a leash in the car.

Pretty, not completely practical.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I would only recommend this collar to people who walk their dog with the leash on a harness, not the collar. This collar works great for us for two reasons: 1) the round rope sits nicely in my husky's thicker and longer fur and doesn't cause matting. 2) we don't clip her leash to her collar, we use a harness for walking. It's a beautiful collar that looks nicer because it's more of a "necklace" than a binding collar and it serves the purpose of holding her tags should she ever get lost. However, it does loosen on it's own, and quite easily. We keep it somewhat loose since we don't attach the leash to it, but sometimes I have tightened it up and put the leash on it for a couple of minutes to walk down the block and it is far looser by the time I take the leash off again. Additionally, for the front metal piece to sit nicely the top of the two parallel ropes should ideally be pulled tighter than the bottom but bc of the way the knot is created this further assists the leash in loosening because the knot slides on the bottom rope. If it was the opposite it would not loosen as easily and the metal piece could sit flatter on the neck/chest. Another comment, can you design the knots to be flatter. The knot presses into my dogs neck is she lays directly on it. Often the collar rotates so this doesn't happen, but is this possible to do? I'll use this as an opportunity to also request that Ruffwear make a walking harness. A collar like this is perfect for holding your dog's tags for safety. Most city dogs in Seattle walk on harnesses (it's healthier on their neck and facilitates training, we use the Easy Walker harness). Sita has so much Ruffwear gear and we love it all! We would love if her daily city harness was Ruffwear too :) The ruffwear harnesses are great for hiking and adventuring, what about something low key just for a walk around the park? I'm thinking the Flat-out leash material would be perfect.

Zi-girl and I like this collar. It is light weight and good looking. Zion cannot resist water and the knots loosen after a good swim, so I'm having to readjust it each time. However, overall it is great. I like the tag silencer. It is not large enough to silence, but lessens the clinking.

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I love the way the knot-a-collar looks, but it doesn't get the job done. If my dog turns her head the wrong way and I'm not paying attention, she slips out of it without a struggle. No matter how much I tighten it, she still gets out. She's never escaped (or tried to escape) from any other collar. I'm bummed. I LOVED the look of it, but we've switched to using a traditional collar instead.

Great looking collar. I attach the leash to her harness, so this is just used to hang her ID tag (Red Dingo brand tag). She looks very cute and rugged. Like some others commented in the reviews, it is a bit thin for a big dog, so I probably wouldn't ever use this with a leash attached to it, but it looks good on her and doesn't look too small or anything. Love the red collar against her blue fur. Also, some people have commented that it's hard to adjust...I am a not-so-strong woman and had no problem adjusting it...it's not loose enough that it's going to change sizes while she's wearing it, but it certainly wasn't difficult to adjust to fit her.

Great w/ the right conditions

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Works perfectly for my conditions; a dog that doesn't pull or roam around. Of the review I've read the theme seems pretty consistent: It looks thicker in the pics...so if you're looking for a collar that stands out, this isn't it. Likewise I could see how it wouldn't be ideal for a dog who pulls while on leash (especially for dogs that want to escape; the nature of the slide-over vs. latch means that the dog can always get out if it's what they want.) And lastly, I suppose the knots could slip with extended use; so what...tighten them up again. But if your looking for a simple high quality collar; this is a great option. Bonus point if you match it with the leash.

I purchased this collar in Aug. 2012 for my Lab Mix. (five months) Sadie and I walk every day to retrieve the paper and mail. She typically is not a puller on her leash and only weighs 40 lbs. However, I noticed that the hardware used to attach the leash is cutting into the collar. The outer threads are completely cut and I can now see the black filament. I love the collar but this is just not practical for daily use.

I really like this collar. I had been looking for a nice easy on and off collar when I came across this one. I bought it as I really wanted the knot a leash. It turned out to be perfect and its rope so he can't wiggle out of it like a loose strap collar but its flexible enough to be slipped on and off with out adjusting it. My favotie thing about the collar is the big leash ring, for two reasons. I jave a furry dog and its easy to find, ut also because the ring stays on his back as most of the collar weight is on his chest. I can always find it when i need to clip on the leash vs his last collar whete id have to hold him down and find the ring. I have recieved a lot of comments at the dog parks about the collar and Ziggy seams to like it as well

A very nice little low profile collar. Love that it's made from climbing rope...very non conventional. I find that this is a great collar to keep the id tags on, not the best for actually restraining though. My husky is really strong and keeping a hold on the collar while he is pulling the other way can sometimes cause the collar to loosen to it's biggest fit and slip off. Otherwise, great!

Big improvement

I had the old Knot-a-Collars. While they served a purpose, these are a grat improvement. The lead is easier to attach, and the ID tag solution much improved (I used to attach them my own way). These are currently my dogs 'wear all the time - just incase' collars. My guys don't need a lead, while one is attached for council regulations, the collar is not used as a form of control. I have it loose enough so it fits over their heads to take off if I want. The Medium does my girl about as big as it will go, and I brough a large for my boy, as he has a bigger head to get it over!

I actually purchased this collar as a addition to get free shipping. This is the only item I kept. There are not a lot of alternatives to this rope collar on the market and it works ok so I kept it. It is quite stiff and not the easiest thing to adjust but once you get it adjusted its ok. I leave it a bit looser so I can slip it off my dog at night. I love the way the collar looks, very natural and not quite so domesticated. It is very lightweight but will not work for everyone that is for sure.

I was looking for a non-buckle collar that wasn't a choke or martingale. This collar is very low profile and attractive. It's easy to adjust, but does slip some if the dog pulls. I wouldn't recommend it for a dog that is a puller. However, I do OB with my dogs and wanted something I could compete in that would stay put on their necks. This collar is fabulous for that. It stays right behind their ears. My one caveat would be that tags just don't stay on that little metal thingy. I lost two sets of fairly expensive tags letting my dogs crash around in the bushes.

This collar would really be an awesome product if it could be personalized. If the front metal plate would be made a bit longer, it would be the perfect place to engrave the dog tag info. This would make the dog tag completely secure and would not dangel like regular dog tags that sometimes get caught and break off. You may not be in the business of engraving dog tags into your products, but it would really set this collar apart from all the others.

I love my knot-a-collar! I use this collar specifically for the purpose of holding my dog's tags. It has the ability to be clipped to a leash but I use the slip leash that Ruff wear sells. It's low key, hangs low on the neck, not to mention it's very nice to look at. I especially love it because I take my dog hiking a lot and it doesn't rub on his neck or limit his movement while we're walking. I love that the knots are adjustable! They're a little hard to pull at first but that's a good thing because it means they wont come undone!
