Inspired by climbing rope, this collar is strong, comfortable, and dependable.
It works particularly well for dogs that have thick, bushy fur because its low profile allows the collar to settle comfortably in thick fur.
One unique and convenient feature standard on all Ruffwear collars: a separate mini D-ring ID attachment to separate tags from the leash for less annoying rattle.
Available in four colors that coordinate with our Knot-A-Leash™.

So far we haven't had problems with the collar loosening up or slipping, and it's definitely strong enough to clip a leash to for a walk. And I love that it's not crimping my aussies mane!

Works great for thick coats
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Both my dogs have a thick coat around their neck that doesn't allow collars to sit nicely but the Knot-a-Just collar is perfect for this. I have not attached a leash to this collar as I always use a choke chain when I take my dogs out. I got this type of collar specifically for appearance.

I read reviews on this collar for weeks befor i finally bought one. After seeing some of the bad reviews i wasnt sure but i figured i would give ruffwear the bennefit of the doubt. unfortunetly some of the things in the bad reviews were true for me. I use this collar souly to hold id tags sense it said it settled into bushy hair well, i never attach a leash. it does settle in his fur well but it also has to be constently tightend. It seems like everytime he shakes his head it loosens a little. it has also already begun to frey a little after having it for two weeks. overall its an ok products, could be better.

Buckle broke on the first day
Would you recommend this product?.: No
Purchased this product with matching leash. I was looking for a durable collar for my dog. Since the product description stated that the collar was made out of climbing rope, I felt this would hold up. The first time we were out, the dog spotted a squirrel and bolted. The buckle snapped and the dog ran off. In less than 24 hours we were back to his old collar.

We pruchased this collar for our full grown husky. We got it because it's a rolled collar so her furs wont mat. This collar has been awesome! It's definitely more durable than it looks. We've had it for about a year now and it's worked perfecty. She's naturally a hard puller but I wouldn't trust anything else. Thanks ruff wear!

This product is great combined with the knot-a-leash. My boxer is 72lbs works great and does the job for me. I think people should review these products a little more before they place a bad review. Dogs are people to so dont blame it on the product blame yourselself for not training your dog in a proper maner. The knot-a-leash and knot-a-just collar get 5 stars in my book. When ordering buy the leash and collar to dress your dog in a proper maner. My boxer thanks ruffwear woof woof woof

I read the reviews before I purchased this product, but I gave Ruff Wear the benefit of the doubt. I don't think my pup will break the collar but it is definitly pretty cheap looking. Very flimsy material and quite thin. I got medium and it's probably about a half inch thick or so.....Definitely a neat color (blue) but I wouldn't purchase it again.

Perfect for what it was designed for - a low profile ID collar
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
The Knot-a-Just collar is perfect for the long thick hair on my siberian husky. It's thin, but sturdy material is functional for short periods of leash and tag attachment (ie. between the car and the dog park) and a low profile grab point to survive dog play time. It's very easy to wipe clean as well.
I have read a number of reviews rating this very product low due to stretching. When used properly, this is a wonderful product. Please note this is NOT a walking collar, you'll realize that right away when you hold this product in your hands and look at the powerful animal next to you.

My beagle/foxhound has had his knot-a just collar now for about 2 years. Words of wisdom about this collar (which I love) do not walk dog with collar unless super short distance and your dog is not a puller. Use a harness or gentle leader instead for walks. I wouldn't recommend to walk with any collar anyway untless your dog is a great walker and does not pull. However if you are looking for a great collar with seperate ring for tags this collar is a good choice. I'm ordering one for my other dog and diffrent collar for my naughty beagle/foxhound mix.

Very disappointed
Would you recommend this product?.: No
I bought this collar for my new dog, a 10-month old Labrador, whom I got from the animal shelter here in Whitehorse YT in Canada. I bought it along with quite a few other Ruffwear items from Backcountry K9 (leash, camping mat, pallisades pack, life jacket, cloud chaser coat, boots and liners, bowls), the order value totaling approximately US$400. Since my dog has had a bad start in life (she was surrendered to the shelter at 6 months of age and remained there for 4 months until I adopted her), I wanted to give her something special. So I bought this collar and got a nice designer dog tag from Australia to go with it. My dog has only worn the collar for one week. Then she lost it while she was happily playing in the water. I noticed that from the moment she started wearing the collar, it easily loosened up and both my husband and I had to retighten the collar several times during the week. There was one incident earlier in the week where my dog freaked out from a skateboarder passing by. I grabbed her by the collar, but she pulled the collar loose and managed to slip her head through it backwards (according to Ruffwear's sizing she's just a small dog, so imagine how hard a bigger dog would pull on this collar!). It was only because I was able to grab her by her neck skin that she didn't blindly run across a busy road to get away from the skateboarder. Last night my husband and I went for a 2-hour hike through the thick Yukon forest with our dog and we concluded the hike with a swim and fetch game in one of the many lakes in the area. At some point in the game we noticed however that our dog was no longer wearing her collar and it's probably now lying at the bottom of the lake where we played, along with her designer name tag, her microchip tag and her City of Whitehorse license tag. All I can say is that I'm very disappointed and I feel like I've wasted my money on this particular collar - even the cheap spare collar I got from a local supermarket is sturdier. I specifically bought this collar, because Ruffwear advertises its gear as being perfect for the outdoor dog. The way I look at it at the moment is that the collar was certainly not suitable for the outdoors - not unless you consider the backyard to be outdoors! It will be interesting to see how long the other Ruffwear stuff I bought is going to last. I'm going to send this review to Ruffwear's customer service as well, and it really depends on how Ruffwear responds to this matter if I will ever buy dog gear from them again.

great product!
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
My border collie x blue heeler mix has a really fluffy neck. Traditional flat collars were making his fur grow weirdly, so we switched to the Knot-A-Just collar. It almost disappears into his fur! His neck fluff is growing back naturally now. The collar is also tough! Bug goes to doggy daycare and other dogs like to grab on to his collar and chew it. We've had it several weeks now and it still looks good as new! Can't recommend Ruffwear products enough!!

The diameter of the collar is smaller than what I thought (should be more like the Knot-a-Leash). After 6 months the plastic clip snapped during a walk. My dog is big, but not a puller. Collar also tended to loosen during wear. Would have liked to see something a bit stronger from a company called "RUFF WEAR".

I thought I would like this collar a lot since I had such good experience with the matching slip lead. This collar seems very fragile for an active dog and does not remain at the length where adjusted so it requires periodic checking to ensure it is not to loose. Best thing about it is the separate ring for tags.

Great collar
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Great collar for a Golden Retriever. With all their fur, a flat collar can sometimes make mats around their neck. Soft, but durable. The only negative thing I'll say is that the XLarge is REALLY X-large. My dog has a 22" neck so I thought the XL would cover all variables. It is super big and I had to shorten it as far as it would go and it's STILL a bit loose on him. Other than that, I really like this collar.

Would you recommend this product?.: No
Please bring back the old style! I have a couple of the original (knot a collars) at least I think they were called knot a collars. They were and still are the best looking, coolest, most functional collars I have ever purchased. They were bascially a slip collar that would loosen on purpose so they weren't designed for walking but they were EXCEPTIONAL for wear around the house/yard during the day. This newer style doesn't serve that purpose AND they don't work for walking....and they don't look as good. This is the first ruffwear product I wouldn't recommend and I have purchased many items, beds, boots, collars, leashes, etc.

We got these collars for two reasons; we needed a collar that the dogs could wear all day without wearing down the hair on their necks, and to carry their ID tags. Not too much to ask we thought. We were very disappointed on one walk to find that Chey's collar had come off. As we had been walking in an area with nothing it could've got caught on and was never used with a lead, we definitely lost all faith in the strength of the buckle.

Depends on the function.
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
As a collar to just hold a tag for id, this is good. My aussies fur is so thick and this doesn't "screw it up" However, I don't recommend using it to attach a leash to. It snapped on me this winter when I walked him. I'll still buy another as I really did like the function as a ID tag holder . ID tags are a must for any dog as less then 50% are ever returned without a tag on if they get lost.

Disappears into our dog's thick fur for a really nice collarless look. However, she can slip out of it. For safety purposes, I add an additional non-slippable collar for walks. Recommended for looks on dogs with thick coats, but not for functionality--at least not for dogs that are adept at slipping out of their collars.

To who ever said this collar doesnt look like the picture, i think it looks exactly like the picture. I got the green color and its not as blah green as in the pic, its a little brighter. Now i love the reflectivness, and the curved buckle. The ID ring is cool, and i love how the collar is rounded so it sits in my girls fur really nice but only where is it rounded which is about half the collar IF you have it as tight as it can be but to have the collar adjustable, it cant be rounded where the adjusting takes place. I also think that the thickness of the collar should be 7mm instead of 10 when you are in the small sizing. I find it to thick. But then again maybe it would cut her neck if she pulled. Now i also want to talk about the buckle. alot of people say this buckle is "flimsy". I have bought my girl about 10 collars prior to this and this is the strongest buckle yet... the plastic is thicker, and it really does lock in place. To the people who said the buckle is crap i dont know what you are comparing to... If your dog can break this collar you should have bought the double back collar without a buckle i guess... no buckle will contain your dog.
I will take one star off for the thickness. I dont think the XS size and the XL collar should be the same thickness. Even though i knew it would be when i bought it, this is for ruffwears sake, to improve this product.
And yes the knot a leash carabiner fits the loop of this leash incase anyone was wondering...

I'd used the previous incarnation of this collar for many years and liked it because it was the only collar that sat down in my long haired dog's fur and didn't look funny. This newer model, which I got for both my long coated dogs, does the same thing and is a little easier to use because it has a plastic buckle and doesn't enlarge on its own. Only design suggestion is that the ring for tags is a little too small; put the 3 tags which each of my dogs has on it and it binds up, hard to get them on too. Other than that, my fave collar for the long hairs. Available colors could be a a little more interesting...

This product had a great look to it. Unfortunately, I found that the size needed to be adjusted constantly. I would set it and with a few days it would be too loose. Works great!!!

I bought this collar four months ago. It works great at hiding in my Husky's thick fur, almost invisible. He wears the collar 24/7 and I haven't had any problems with him trying to get out of it. I did notice when I first got it that it did stretch a little but nothing significant.
He pulls pretty hard at time as he's only 10 months old and the collar has held up great. I've recommended it to other friends as well.

The collars are great, but they are a lot smaller (diameter) than I thought they would be. I like the reflective characteristic best of all since my dogs and I spend a lot of time in the dark mountain nights. I would like the collar descriptions to have diameter width and thickness details in the description.

Perfect for thick fur dogs
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
This collar is the best I have ever used for my thick fur dog. When its on it is impossible to tell that she is even wearing a collar. It makes her look like wolf. Flat collars made her fur stick up at a 90 degree angle and were not comfortable for her. On the other hand, my dog does pull all the time. After a few weeks of pulling her collar did adjust to get bigger. This has happened with flat collars too. With the flat collars, she would wiggle out of them and run away. However, this collar settles so deep into her fur that she can't wiggle out. I noticed that many of the people who wrote negative reviews for this product (because of the loose adjustments) had short or medium fur dogs. If you have a dog with real thick bushy fur, this collar will be great for your pet as intended.

Nice and comfortable for them - i.e. good home collar and ID collar. The split ring for ID tags rusted very quickly (I just replaced it with something plastic). And it pulls and stretches. But I don't need a strong collar, so works fine. Not sure about value for money though...Would recommend for certain purposes (i.e. not if you rely on a collar to control your dog! - OK for guidance with well trained dogs.

Good "Home Collar"
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
Good collar to wear all the time at home. I have used it to take him out, too, and it was fine, cuts into his throat a bit when he pulls. Overall a good product. Just like me my dog has different gear for different activities: harness for climbing, sliplead for obedience class etc. this collar is basically his sweats.

horrible quality, poor design

we have had this product for less than one year. the collar will eventually slip into a waaay bigger size after few walks on-leash. Today, I let my 25 lb pug out on his lead in the back yard (since it is not fully fenced.) I ran inside for a second and then lost sight of him. When I stepped outside, I saw his lead lying on the ground with his broken collar. the buckle had completely split in two. I freaked out, but was relieved to find him just chilling about 5 feet away. It's just scary that he could have wandered off, with no identification.

Love it!

I love these collars. In the past I had always used rolled leather collars for my dogs, because the flat ones don't nestle into their big furry necks very well, and they break off the hair too. But my dog daycare requires a break-away plastic clip instead of a buckle, so I went in search of a rolled collar with the break-away clip, and this is the only thing close to it, anywhere. These collars are plenty sturdy - we've used the same one for about 3 years now, but they DO stretch out, and also just "re-adjust" quite frequently. I am going to sew mine into the correct size so that it can't keep growing. But, like I said, it's the only "non-flat" collar I can find with the break-away design, so I still love it even with it's imperfections. DO NOT use with a dog who is tethered and may charge to the end of the tether - the collar will definitely break. But is sturdy enough for normal use, even with a 60 lb. dog who pulls on the leash and goes for an occasional squirrel during walks.

I was expecting so much more from this collar! The round rope material doesn't go all the way around the collar so the look is off and for being called "ruff wear" it didn't stand up to the challenge of the outdoors.

ALL SHOW, NO GO!
Would you recommend this product?.: No
If you like the aesthetics of climbing rope material, then you will like this collar. But if you actually want any sort of functionality, this product is a big waste of money. The plastic buckle is flimsy and way smaller than the cheaper Hoopie collar. The sizing is also extremely off. I bought the same sizing as my Hoopie Collar L (19-29in), and for some reason this Knot-A-Collar XL (19-26in) is way too big. Even at the smallest setting I can literally pull the collar off my dog's neck. Also, the rope on the collar is super thin and weak looking.. Don't let the picture fool you. For the mean time, I'm only using this collar as a non-functional decoration for my dog's neck.

It was a great buy!!

Love this collar! It doesn't break the fur like regular collars. It is like a rolled collar but better. It is adjutable and has a quick clip! Just what I needed. My dog opened a buckle collar as a pup, so I don't trust one to stay on. The quick clip on a round collar was exactly what I was looking for!

good, not great
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
This collar is definitely a lot wussier than I expected (thought the rope would be a bit thicker), but I love how low-profile it is. It doesn't permanently restyle my dogs hair like other collars do. I would not trust this collar with a regular leash (even for smaller dogs like my 35-45 pounders), so I bought a Just-a-Cinch leash which works perfectly with it. My girls are off leash most of the time, so the collar is great just for tags, but when they do need to be leashed, my mind can be at peace. One last thing: this collar ran a bit smaller than expected... my dogs wear a small in Ruffwear stuff, but they need a medium in this. Bought one small and one medium... need to return the small. Overall though: happy. Might buy a couple extra so they can change "outfits" every now and again :)

Great for well trained dogs that only need a collar for their ID tags, and when the leash only needs to be used for guidance at times (or so I can turn off my brain cells).Great for dogs that have earnt the trust to have a collar that is comfortable and easy to wear.Only not a five star because does loosen over time. But easy to adjust, so not really a problem.A collar that is very comfortable for the dogs to wear.

This product is just not good for a larger dog. I don't attached a leash or anything to the collar except for tags. But on the occassion or two I want to grab my dog by the collar... the collar stetches slights and is not sturdy. The "adjustable" part of the collar is its "weakness." Good idea but not well implemented for a large dog.

Great second collar for my dogs when they wear their wireless fence collars. I ordered small enough (size large for labs) so that the collar is adjusted to be a big as it can. No slippage. not sure of duribility yet. When walking I use a slip leash so this color will not be attached to a lead. Very comfy for my girls. I am happy.

I needed a collar that my dog could wear with her inground fence collar. My first impression of this collar, upon holding it, was that it feels really FLIMSY. I'm a 5'3" female, I feel like if I really tried, I could pull the collar apart. So for any dog that tugs at all, I'd be worried about them pulling and the collar ripping in half. Also, as others have noted, the size doesn't keep at all. It's a shame because one of my dogs has a mane that could rival a lion's, and I like the way this collar actually settles into her fur. But that doesn't make up for the poor construction, so I'll be returning this.
