I love this product because it has strength and I can grab it and it doesn't pull thru my hand. I will buy another one. I do wish it was a little bit shorter tho for me. Would give me better leaverage when walking my very highly active dog.

Brooke has learned to unlock conventional leashes (no idea how!) I could be in mid-walk and the leash would drop off and then she'd take off. Walk time has been so much more relaxed this weekend! Thank you for a great product.

The smaller diameter of the small fits into my dogs work vest perfectly. The load bearing locking beaner that comes with is an awsome addition.

I've had this leash for almost 3 years now, is still like brand new. I want to buy Just-a-Cinch but this one is still in perfect condition. Is so durable! The reflective lines are awesome for those dark winter nights crossing the streets. I've used this leash for hiking, in the river, running, snowshoeing, camping, it never ends. RuffWear it really is ruff! ;)

My dog pulls... he's 60lbs and thinks he is 150lbs! This leash makes it easy to pull him in. I use it as our running leash.

I purchased this leash in the glacial color to compliment the Hoopie collar in topo. The two colors aren't a perfect match, but they function superbly together! I like the locking carabiner, although it does get tight and hard to unlock if it gets wet. No worries, though - once dry, it opens right back up. The wrist loop is nice and soft, and I like the strength of the rope itself. Another winner from Ruffwear!

I bought my first knot-a-leash almost 7 years ago and I still use it every day. I wanted the same leash for my newly adopted dog and have been using it for 3 months. The locking carabiner is a great improvement. It looks like I'll have these leashes for the duration of my dogs lives. Maybe beyond. Fantastic product.

Tough leash. I bought this leash with the idea I would use it with a Ruffwear Approach backpack. The caribiner latching system is easy to put on and take off and it's just a durable overall leash. I pop it on the backpack and away we go.

Fantastic leash. We've been thru many types due to dog chewing them up. This leash I have bought five times because I love it and always replace it again when dog chewed. Love the sturdy feel, padded handle that never breaks and is kind on skin, Great color combos too. New carion clasp is best so far. I can easily rope it in to walk dogs tighter and let loose to give them more freedom. I don't trip over this type of leash as lighter weight varieties. Thank you Ruff wear!!!

I love the look and feel of this leash. It's strong, just the right length and the carabiner clasp is great (although it tends to slip into the locked position but that's a minor inconvenience). The loop handle keeps me from being tempted to wrap the leash around my hand, which is a good thing as it can be a dangerous practice.

I like to be able to wrap the handle around my hand for better control, but could not do that with this leash because the handle is too stiff and thick. My son now has a new leash for his Bullmastiff puppy.

Especially like the carabiner clasp - the only clasp that has not come undone. I wish there were a swivel mechanism on one end of the leash (so as to not experience twisting), but that is a minor issue.

Was impressed by the "secure" look of this lead (leash) and the endorsement by the English Search and Rescue Dog Assosiation, however I was very dissapointed when the material that links the rope to the carabiner failed and snapped. This was regrettably enough to put me off buying another one or recommending it. I have to rate a minimum of one star in order to submit this review but honestly I would rate it minus one star.

I'd been eyeing this leash on the internet for months (undecided about the price), but then I saw one in a store and couldn't put it down! Love all the thought that goes into Ruffwear products! And this leash is no exception: reflective safety striping, poop bag notch, perfect length, carabiner...and it has a fabulous grip for when she sees that unexpected butterfly! ;) When she's off-leash I wrap it around my waist - the carabiner clips easily to the handle. Only complaint so far is the color variety. I have the blue, but the green is really pretty too, and then there's the red... Bottom line: Worth the money. Safe for your dog and easy on you.

We are so impressed with the leads/leaches!We love to walk our dogs and are enjoying doing so more with these leaches. The grip is fantastic and works well for my husband who has fibromyalgia. We are so glad we reseached and purchased these!

I love this leash but I can't give it 5 stars because it is almost brand new and the top of the rope part is already coming loose in threads. They need to tighten the threading/rope material. However, comfortable and I really like it for safety as well.

the locking clasp was the most important part for me. My dogs can twist around enough to pop regular clips. They don't become loose while getting excited.

This is a very solid product. We do a lot of hikes and this leash is just perfect. Strong when you want it to be strong, but still nice flexible rope. Craftsmanship is very good. A must buy!!

I have a big dog with a big pull and this is the leash for me. It has a very comfortable grip, too, which is nice for the handler. I particularly like the carabiner clip and the knowledge that while other things may fail, this leash won't be one of them.

I love everything about this leash except how easily the handle frays... I would have been happier with a more durable handle even if it sacrificed some of its comfort that being said it is still the best least I have ever owned.

I love the carabiner, I find it easier to use than the standard clip on most leashes. Sometimes when Rhino gets too excited and I have to tug on the leash close to the carabiner, it does not hurt your hands. I hook his poo bags to the loop under the leash handle.

My terrier mix is well-known at her daycare for being an "escape artist," and this is the only leash that I would trust with her, given her Houdini-like ability to wiggle her way out of anything, even harnesses. Love the strength, the locking carabiner and the length. The only issues I have are: a) the carabiner lock tends to loosen after each walk (30-40 minutes). I have to re-tighten it each time. b) the leash tends to coil up, particularly with my little Energizer bunny. To ensure that I never lose my dogs, I always wind my end of the leash several times around my hand, but that means that after a little while, the leash itself ends up coiling up pretty badly. I then have to "rewind" it until it's straight again. It would be perfect if the dog's end of the leash had some kind of mechanism so that the leash rotates rather than coils up when the dog moves around. Otherwise, solid leash!

I have a Golden Retriever puppy who needed a new leash so I got the small. The leash is ok, 5ft is a little short for my liking. Out dog grew out of it fast but for small dogs this would do great. Love the style but we needed a bigger leash.

I love this leash! It gives just the right about of give when my dog charges after a rabbit or squirrel and it's the perfect length. The handle is really comfortable even with full tension on it. The carabiner is fantastic too!

I love this leash and so does Beason. The carabiner is a nice touch and easy to manage and the padded handle is comfortable. What sets this leash apart from the others I've bought has to do with the rope. It stays taut which prevents the leash from getting tangled up under my pup.

I never have to worry about his lead coming off his collar when he shakes his head......and he can really shake! The carbiner works great!

I love the handle and can relax knowing that the lock will not open, I do feel that the leash is too thin and when my dog pulls I feel that the leash stretches and it adds to the tension. I wish that the short leash was also made in the thicker version. Otherwise I think that your products are terrific!

Best Leash by far for safety. We had 3 mishaps with traditional sliding spring locks (my dog was almost hit by a bus) on three different competitor leashes. The carabiner on the Not-a-Leash solved our problem!

This is one of the best leashes I have used yet. . . the round profile is great against getting tangle and restisting snags. the handle is super comfiy and you can tell alot of though went into the design of this leash. I am definitely now a fan of this brand!!

No rubbing on my hand from the grip of the leash anymore! Comfortable to hold, correct behavior, and so convenient with the carabiner to clip on to the collar or switch to a harness. The handle also has a convenient thumb grip, we have had bad experiences with our dogs (built to pull) pulling suddenly in a different direction, so the thumb grip gives me an extra sense of security. Nice for evening walks to with the reflective striping.

This has to be the best leash I've ever used! Its strong, yet the shape is easy on the hand. The carabiner for a lock is awesome! No worries about this unlocking ;) Just order one... you won't regret it!

Lets start from the top down. The handle is the same rop material as the rest of the leash with a covering over it. For some reason i was expecting a like foam handle so it wasnt as soft/squishy as i was expecting but then again it might fall apart if it was. Then you have the rope itself. I got the small, and was worried it wouldnt be thick enough and would look like a rope like shoe lace but it is plenty thick for a 12 pound sheltie. It is 7mm however thick that is, i would compare to a small sharpie marker. It has reflective stitching which is another bonus and is 5 ft long. I cannot find this length in a leash anywhere. I find 6ft to long and 4 ft to short. THANK YOU RUFFWEAR. Now to the carabiner. It does look as nice as it does in the picture. And i dont know if it is a smaller one than the large but it is the perfect size for my girl. The lock on it is a nice safety option. I honestly do not know how ANY dog could get away on this leash. Seriously i dont think you can find a stronger leash. This thing wouldnt break holding a mastiff.I use it with the webmaster and i can literally lift my girl up and into my arms on this thing. I dont know how they could improve this anymore. P.S dont remove the leather peice on the carabiner. It prevents the leash attachment from coming off the carabiner.

I still have the first two of these leashes bought back in 1995 for my first two labs. The leashes outlasted the dogs and my second two now use them. I also bought a new one 2 years ago when we were up to 3 dogs, and it's as good as the first ones. I have needed to replace the caribener (sp?) as it got rusty but that's an easy fix.

I would love to order this item except it is too long. It would be nice if you would offer all of your leashes in shorter length (30 inches) as well as the 5-6 ft. length for those of us who have service dogs or just want our dogs to walk at our side. Please seriously consider my suggestion and request. I believe it would bring you even more business. The quallity of your products looks amazing.

This is the best leash I've seen. Having the locking carabiner is amazing. My Amstaff was able to break other leashes with clips. Highly recommend for the stronger breeds

I love this leash! it's rounded and very smooth, so I don't get leash burn, and the padded handle feels great in my hand.

We love this leash! It is made well, is really comfortable to hold (especially when running), and works well for our moderately-strong puller. It does have a tendency to twist easily but we don't care. Love the extra loop under the wrist loop, too... we hook our poop bag holder to it so it doesn't bang against our wrists when walking. Would highly recommend! Just like any other leash, keep it away from your dog's teeth. I'm sure it would be pretty easy for the average chewer to destroy if the dog isn't being supervised.

Loved the Leash for the two weeks I had it. Then my golden got a hold of it and now it is destroyed. I understand that a warranty will not cover this but only having the leash for two weeks and paying 30 dollars for it sucks. I was using this leash as a trial to move on to what I thought was quality products. But after being told that nothing can be done for me I will not recommend this product or any ruff wear products in the future.

This leash is perfect for my master escape artist (beagle). With the locking carabiner I now have peace of mind.

Once downfall (minor) is that the leash twists easily. Normal leashes have a swivel that helps the leash from twisting up.

I use these leashes with my Web Master Harnesses and KNOW my Berner girls will stay tethered when it is important that they do so. I like that the clasp doesn't clog with dirt/sand as other leash hooks are apt to do and make it impossible to detach them from collars or harnesses.

It's definitely the last leash my pups will ever need! Considering the 10mm diameter rope is rated at 1100Kg (roughly 2400ILBS!!!!) my suggestion is stick with the smaller 7mm diameter leash unless your dog is 100ILBS+. The thicker rope is just a bit robust for a smaller breed. The quality is unbeatable and there isn't a canine on the planet that could get off of this leash. The locking Carabiner is soild and built like a tank. Also, if you prefer to have the carabiner function lock free for easy on and off access, have no worries. You simply screw the locking mechanism down, and screw it in place and it functions as a lock free carabiner. If and when you wish to lock the carabiner again, you simply screw the locking mechanism back up and screw it in place. Voila!!!! Simple, elegant, ingenious engineering at its finest. The knot-a-leash is the last leash you'll ever need for your fido!!!!

This is a solid leash with a durable locking carabiner and highly visible reflect 7mm line. Very sturdy, good looking, and comfortable to use.

I think I have tried every leash on the market for my pugs. The grip is soft, and the cord runs all the way around the inside of the grip that adds just enough rigidity for great control without the nylon cutting into your hand if the dogs pull. Very high quality construction, brilliant design.

this is the best leash I have found. the only leash I will walk my dog with and feel safe. before we had do double leash to walk our large dog because he could somehow snap out of the snap hooks used in on other leashes.

Being a climber I was drawn to the looks and function of the leash. It may be more than I need but it just looked too cool to pass up.

I've been using this leash for quite a few years now. Got a new one last December after our last dog passed away (the other leash was fine - just wanted a new one). The new dog had a lot of behavior problems at first, including leash biting. Never phased this leash. I can't say enough great things about this leash. VERY DURABLE. I love the carabiner clasp too.

I love these leashes for so many reasons: 1) the durability yet flexibility of the rope, 2) the visibility of the leash while walking along busy roads at dark, 3) the comfort and durability of the handle (my dogs pull really hard), 4) the strength and locking device of the caribiner at the end, and 5) stickers and thorns do not get stuck to this leash, allowing my dogs to run through bushes and fields.

My husband and I searched Philadelphia, and beyond, for a leash to replace the one that I had put together using a rope leash and a carabinder. We were excited to finally find one on line from Ruff Wear. My active Jack Russell is safe with the Knot-a Leash.

The Knot-a-Leashes have totally spoiled us! We will not buy anything but these leashes. The grips are soooo comfortable in our hands and it's easy to have a good grip if our labs pull. The diameter and feel of the leash are the best. Top rating!

I have used the last 3 versions of this leash with good success. I am a commercial dog walker/hiker and I usually carry 4-6 of these leashes draped over my shoulder. Honestly, I prefer the first version (circa 2005?). the rope was a sturdy stiffer climbing rope that did not tangle or soak up water and the carabiner was non locking and the handles and leash ends were sturdier and did not fray. However, this version has a nice drape, is strong and comfy in the hand, still looks cool, and the reflective thread is valuable. I do not like this new carabiner however Its sturdy but the locking mechanism is not removable as it was in previous versions. This seems a safety issue for quick on and off. I don't think the biner needs to be locked ON the dog. I've never had a non locking version come off the collar.

My only complaint is that I can't give it 10 stars! I love it. I have had one for about 6 years but it was getting dirty - though it has held up amazingly well with a 100 pound dog at the end. I purchased a new one, which is even better, with the ability to lock it closed. It is comfortable to hold onto, well designed and stunning.

Handle is comfy, notch for carrying poop sacks is a plus, and the reflective material is a great addition to our other glow-y gear for 5AM runs, when it is dark most of the year. the leash did detach from the end near the caribiner after a year, but it was replaced hassle-free by the dealer who informed us that the product is guaranteed. We are on year two of the replacement leash. Haven't seen any leashes that could match these features and my running buddy and I are very happy with it.

This is the only leash I can use comfortably with my Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. It's indestructible and my hand is never hurt when he decides to bolt for a bunny while we're walking. I spent lots of money looking for a good leash and this is the perfect one.

I've had occasion to try various versions of this leash over the last couple of years. I highly approve just about all the upgrades you've made recently - better carabiner, better grip, more reflective material on the cord, and more color choices. Bravo! The main further option I'd suggest is some kind of laser ID etching on the carabiner (for example inscribing the dog's name, phone #, owner's address, etc.). Seems like this could greatly expedite recovery if ever the leash is lost or misplaced.

I like how this leash looks-- I actually bought two, one for each dog. I got the large for the black lab and it works wonderful for her. The handle of the large leash fits my boyfriend's hand better than mine, but it is still comfortable for me. The little dog (the terrier mix) has the small leash and it is much smaller than the large leash. However, it is just the right size for her! The only problem that I have her in training, I tend to grip onto her leash to keep her close and when I do this, the leash hurts my hand. When I just have her out walking and not holding the leash, I love it. I would give the leash an overall: 4/5 stars-- the stars below aren't working for me.

I initially thought the leash would be strong enough and durable enough to sustain my 75 lb lab. The leash is already fraying after only 1 month as the leash itselt is too thin and not constructed of a tight enough weave. The handle is comfortable is the only upside.

Since the carbiner has been updated this leash is so great. It is strong but soft. It is quick to clasp but extra security needs only but a twist. Even to tie a dog to an object for a quick task could not be easier with this leash.

I have two of these leashes. My larger dog is over 100 lbs and can pull me or just about anything. I never worry when I have him on this leash.

The leash is incredibly comfortable, soft handle and the rope gives a little when my pup pulls. I love the fact that the leash is so light and small. The only problem we had was minor - the carabiner isn't the best quality. The locking mechanism wouldn't stay locked consistently. If my lab pulled too hard, he would pull himself right out of the biner - locked and all. We replaced the biner and are much happier with it now!

Love this leash i bought two. Its very durable and easy on the hands. Lightweight, and cool looking. The newer caribiner Clasp is great, the older black clasp while still sturdy was not as cool as the new clasp. Only thing wrong is the clasp has a rubber/leather piece to keep it in place which breaks over time with everyday use. This has happened with the older leash and the newer model with the silver caribiner.

I run a dog adventure hiking business, and leashes can really make or break things for me. My hands used to really hurt after a day using old school standard leashes. With the Knot-a-Leash they feel much better. The handle is both durable and comfortable. In fact the way I found out about Ruff Wear was through using one of our client's really old, but still in perfect shape Knot-a-Leashes. I was so impressed with the workmanship and design that we checked them out, and now run Ruff Wear gear almost exclusively! If you need a tough leash, buy this one! If you want an even more comfy one get the Flat Out leash. I use the flat out when just walking my dogs around.

Other leashes I used would fall off and Shibas are run-away dogs, they can never be off-leash. This one keeps me from worry but I wish it could be alittle longer than 5-feet. The handle is very comfortable and the reflective stitching is a good feature.

Works great walking on the beach or in the woods hunting. If your dog is a super puller, I can see how it might "burn" the hands a little, but if you have a trained dog then don't sweat it.

This is a strong leash with a nice grip. It is surprisingly lighter than I expected. Comfortable for both dog and walker. The carabiner is too big for a puppie's collar, but once the dog gets a little bigger, it's perfect!

I went through a few leashes (all non ruffwear) before I bought this one. We spend a good amount of time outside in all sorts of weather... The average Petsmart leash just didn't cut it... I have owned this Product for over a year and its still working great, as far as I have seen this is the best dog leash out there, I reccomend it to anyone.

I have an extremely hyper and active dog - this leash works great! Cale also uses the Web-master harness to which this connects excellent too. Built heavy-duty - this is ideal if your looking for a super rugged, bomber leash.

Perfect leash for the dog who wants to be his own boss. It locks onto the harness and there's no way it can open, unlike others I have used. The leash is strong enough for an elephant.

I got this leash off REI Outlet. While the leash itself is great, the carabiner is faulty. the leash I have seems to be an older version of this one (the biner is black). I might try to replace the biner in the leash.

I love this product design for it's durability and comfort. My only problem with the design is that the carabiner, though I love the concept, does not swivel so if the leash is attached to a non-swiveling D-ring, the leash may begin to twist.
