Terrific Piece of Gear...

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have the Palisades Pack and love it. I would like to get the DoubleBack Harness. I sometimes have to hoist my Labbie up moderate heights and don't trust the snaps on the Palisades Harness. Of course, I remove the pack when I do this. However, if I use the DoubleBack I can't attach the Palisades pack to it. OK, My question/suggestion is could you make a DoubleBack that you could attach the Palisades pack to? I think it would add another use to the DoubleBack, making it a much more attractive option. Right now, when I get the DoubleBack, I plan to add connecting snaps myself so I can use the Palisades Pack with it. Please consider this idea. Thanks

Good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The bags seem to slip to one side or the other when loaded down. I find myself adjusting my dog's pack to keep him balanced. Some additional ventilation on the harness it's self would have been nice. I have a flat coated retriever who has a tendency to get hot anyways. Other then that, I like how the pack is easy to remove, without any Velcro to get stuck in long hair. All in all, it's been a great pack for the value.

Fantasic overall but a bit large

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I originally ordered this for my female, I loved the idea of having a removable pack that left the harness on. The size small harness fit her fantastic, but the pack was HUGE on her! Even empty if was so overly cumbersome it was nearly as big as her. So I gave it to her brother and ordered her just the Web Master Harness. While still a size small, he is tall and long just very thin chested. The pack fits him much more approprietly. I ran him thorugh the mud and out hiking and he moved like it wasn't there. I definitly recomend the product but for larger dogs, it's a bit much for small dogs.

Poor design, great idea!

Would you recommend this product?.: No

When all the gear is stowed in the small packs, there is too much moving of the saddle bags themselves. A number of times the bags ended up on the same side of the dog and nearly to the dog off the trail. Water and Mud soaked through the material of the bags. The bags themselves should have been bigger for better storeage of gear.

Almost perfect!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Amazing pack. At first I was a little put off about the weight of it, the material is a little thicker than expected. BUT, it paid off, it survived the first hike even with extensive rubbing on saw palmetto, cactus, sawgrass, and what seems like literally every plant down here with thorns. Looci is a border collie mix, took to the harness and pack right away. That being said, initial adjustment of the harness could be a little tricky if you have an uncooperative dog, but once it's set you'll probably never have to readjust. My main concern was whether the pack would overheat Looci in the hot Florida sun. The material between the packs is mesh, and the harness material is lined with something that seems breathable. He still overheated a little bit, in the mid day sun, but that's to be expected. Otherwise it didn't seem to affect him too much temperature wise. Everything all the other reviews say is spot on, so I'll focus on what I would like changed. First, inside one of the bags a large instruction sheet is sewn into the pack. It was pretty annoying to cut out as I didn't want to compromise the pack's otherwise perfect stitching. Also I would love to see a belay loop, kind of what looks like is on the doubleback harness. As an option to use a carabiner. Since Looci is still in training I used some 7mm rope and a biner to make a long leash, worked great, but the metal D ring on the harness is not the best mounting point for a biner.

Amazing!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have an approach pack that I love except that my dogs head is block shaped and doesn't fit easily through the neck opening, making it hard while camping to take on and off. That's why I love the palisades pack! The harness is highly adjustable -fit well with no chafe points. The bag laying on top of that allows me to take the pack off for rest/relaxation on the trail. The water bladders included are nice with te angled corner spout. And the amount of space is certainly sufficient. I can't wait to take this out on a multiway trip! My dog and I are both very pleased!

We love the palisades pack for Ruby. Itfits great and the harness is awesome just by itself. My only advice is trust when they say to go with the lower size if you are in between. Ruby's barrel chested so we went a size up and ended up exchanging for a smaller size.

Love this backpack!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I picked this up for my Australian Cattle Dog Gibson for his first birthday. He fits the small sized harness and pack and took to it right away. He now carries all of his supplies when we go on hikes in the hills or picnicking in the park. And some of my stuff as well like my tablet phone and keys. I really like that once we get to where we are going the pack easily clips off and he can stay in the harness and still play and run around. Even when out walking he is more focused and on the job when wearing the pack or just the harness. All in all I really like this pack and so does Gibson. I look forward to many more hikes and adventures with this pack.

Highly favorable

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

In Jan. 2013 I purchased my second Palisades for our 2nd GSD. He is much less barrel chested than our 105 lb. boy. But they can both be fitted very well and very easily. The first Palisades is the older version and I do find that I very much like the slight changes in the new one. As soon I get the boys all rigged up they know they are someplace to have a great time and it shows in their prideful walking prance. They know they have a job and they know they look good doing it!!!

The Best Dog Pack Out There!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Maya and I have gone on over 200 hikes over the past 5 years. Most of the hikes are 1/2 day to one day hikes. Maya has always been equipment with the Palisades Pack (Small Size / Maya Weighs 50 lbs). The pack has enabled me to only carry water as Maya carries everthing else. The bag still allows her to run and case critters. After five years, the pack is still in perfect condition and just needs to be cleaned every 10-20 hikes. The pack is easy to use, looks great, rides perfect. The pack is easy to balance. The pack has never caused any physical problems to Maya. During steep rock climbs and climbs through icy conditions, the pack harness has come in handy either by me helping Maya over the rocks or by Maya helping me when I start to slip and slide on the ice (Maya always leads). Maya has had many compliments on her Palisades Pack.

Loved it!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My female is a little 35 lb GSD mix and it was her first camping excursion with the family. This allowed me to comfortably lift her over obstacles like tree trunks and large rocks in order to take her farther on the hikes than my family was able to bring their large breed dogs (couldn't lift over obstacles, too big). She didn't appear to be in any discomfort nor did she show signs of being afraid she'd be dropped, she held perfectly still until she was placed on the new surface. Despite long walks the harness didn't rub or irritate her anywere, the reflector strips are incredibly bright, and the harness was very sturdy, no damadge desptite rough brush and terrain. The pack was a bit big on her despite the harness fitting perfect, but it was very easy-on and easy-off.

Great pack

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Very good pack. Highly recommended. The only thing I wished Ruffwear could change is the way the bottom sides of the pack velcro to the harness. It is not very strong, and its very easy to get hair into the velcro, rendering the velcro useless. I would use snaps instead. When the dog runs, the velcro comes looose and the backs are flapping all over.

Best dog pack ever!!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have owned other dog packs before and they never seemed that great, I do a lot of hiking and backpacking and enjoy taking my dog. I ordered this pack and have been blown away at the quality and thought put into the design. First off, it has a harness system that you fit to your dog and then attach the pack to, or you can even use the heavy duty harness on its own (in camp, etc.). The pack attaches securely and snugly, with different tensioning devices for a perfect fit. I have a huge 100lbs Lab, and ordered the Large/X-large for him. This thing is so cool, it even includes two water reseviors with there own pockets within each side of the pack! I would highly recommend this pack if you are in the market for one, this is hands down the best pack I have ever come across!!

Worth the money

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This pack is worth the money--I especially like that the packs can be removed, making it very versatile. It can hold enough food and dog gear for a few days camping and it balanced well so that our dog can walk for long distances with it on without it shifting a lot. I actually credit the harness with saving our dog's neck, literally. She's lunged after game on the trails and very likely would have hurt her neck if she had just been wearing her collar. Also, when hiking, this it is great to be able to pick her up by the handle if necessary (for example, we found shattered glass along a trail and my husband was able to pick her up, all 60 lbs of her, and carry her like a purse over the broken glass, and she was completely fine with it and the harness held up great). The fit can be tricky--we have a medium for our 60 lb, barrel chested shepherd mix, but I wish Ruffwear would make more customizable harnesses for dogs with large chests and small waists (greyhounds, shepherds, dobies, etc). Also, I do wish they made some other colors, however, this is extremely minor, just something to note. I highly recommend this pack--it's worth the extra money to have the removable packs, you won't regret it.

This product is perfect for me and my service dog. It stays on her slender body (she has very little shoulders so everything slides to one side or the other but this does minimal) and was easily completed with patches to make her job and my day easier. We've been all over in it and all we get is complements. The harness alone is perfect for balance work and car rides. The packs are easy to put on and easy to remove. Thank you Ruffwear for making my crazy college days easier for both me and my service dog!!

good, not excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This pack is compact yet roomy, sturdy and seems of high quality construction. I like that I can cinch it down to minimize the bulk and profile of it. The harness is made to fit very nicely and is very adjustable. My only complaint is that there is a bit of slack at the clips that hold the pack to the harness. This means that the weight of the pack (even with very little in it) tends to pull the pack backwards a bit, and I have to often nudge it back up as we walk.

2 thumbs up

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We purchased this pack because we do a lot of hiking and some backpack camping, and we wanted our pup to carry some of his own food and water. We chose the removable packs because we also do a lot of boating trips and wanted the harness without the packs to more easily fish our dog out of the water when necessary. It took a little while for our dog to get used to walking on uneven ground with the packs, but I think he's getting the hang of it. The compression straps help to keep the bags close to the dog so they don't bounce around too much. My one complaint, that I've seen other people mention too, is that the tiny clips on the bottoms of the bags are difficult to attach to the harness when the harness is already on the dog. Besides that, I give this product 2 thumbs up.

We LOVE this pack. It holds a lot, is very durable, and looks comfortable. Anyone who wants their dog to have the best of the best should get this pack. We also love the harness feature for walks here in town and if I need her to pull my wheelchair the towline works great for that and she looks so much more comfortable. I wouldn't trade my palisades for anything.

excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

we used the palisades pack on about a 40 miles section of the Coloardo trail outside of Durango and the pack performed excellent - the only pain is the tiny little snaps on the loop that secures the bottom of the packs to the chest harness strap - they are such a pain that they prevent removing the packs more often during rest stops. They should be easier to access and larger for adult size fingers and hands.

I have purchased two of these packs and they are great. We use the harness for Search & Rescue training and the packs when hiking with our girls. We also use them any time we need to tire them out!

Excellent

So far, so good. The saddle seems quite stout but the neck hole is a bit small and hard to adjust. I have an older model of this with velcro and clips to hold the packs onto the saddle and the new version is much better. I like the option of using water bottles if we are hiking on dry trails. It is easy to get stuff in and out of. They are a bit pricey though and time will tell how well they hold up.

Absolutely the Best!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have been using versions of this backpack for 5 years with 2 different Mobility Service Dogs. They are used every day and wear like iron, look like new, even with frequent washing. The great removeable packs are so helpful for restaurants, where I can remove them from my already big dog to allow him to get under the table without problems. This version is an improvement on the last one, with the extra lashing hardware below the snap buckle on the chest strap, which helps to hold the adjustment of the strap firm, rather than slipping often as it did on the last model. The whole harness fits better and more snugly in the chest, and puts the weight a little further up the shoulders (toward the neck) than the last model. I greatly appreciate the extra pockets/zippers on the top of the backpack, which are very handy for smaller items such as your keys that you want to easily get to. I believe RuffWear backpacks are the best out there, and worth every penny. A good improvement on an already fantastic backpack!

Versatile and Tough!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have a hard core Border Collie mix, and over the past 2 years we have seriously put this pack and harness through the wringer. We have used it for just about everything: Kayaking, Hiking, Tracking, Climbing, Biking, Sledding, Training, etc. She has caught it in barbed wire without it ripping, went swimming without it stretching, and gone all day without it rubbing. All the while, she looks smart and spiffy, gets tons of complements, and at the end of the day, I can spray it off and it looks like new. Most recently, we hiked Grandfather Mt. in NC and the harness was invaluable for helping her up and down ladders since it is strong enough to carry her full weight. On top of all this, the pack is extremely adjustable. Although I got it for my 45lb Border Collie, I have also used without any problems with my 75lb Golden Retriever and my 30lb 4 month old lab puppy. This is Honestly the best back out there and worth every penny. I will never get a different one!

I love it!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My doberman loves this backpack. It's huge an therefore holds a lot! We've taken her hiking with us a few times since we got it and she is so much more focused with it on. It tires her out quicker too. The water bottles hold quite a bit of water. I was learly at firt because they don't look like they hold much water, but once I started pouring it into her travel bowl I could see it held more than I thought. I also use it if we ever go down to the local coffee store. I'll put the coffee in her pack instead of using a bag to carry it home in.

THE BEST

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

There is NOTHING negative to say about this pack!!! Although we've only given it a few test runs - there has not been a bit of an issue and Kai is very comfortable tackling the terrain without a concern for the pack. All RuffWear products are of exceptional quality including this pack - ample space for all supplies, and very durable water pouches as well!!! LOVING EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Outstanding

This is truly a solid solution for the extended hike. The buckles are much stronger than the smaller packs and the fit is perfect. Bonus that you can just pull the bags and have a harness for quick walks.

In the process of training Monty to carry his own gear. First expedition will be 3 day backpack in the Smokey Mountains. Would love to see an additional leash ring on the chest. When leashed on the top, the pack can pull to the side pretty easy if he decides to go check out a tree :)
