Great Idea!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I had been jokingly talking about how someone should come up with a camelback back pack for dogs, when a friend pointed me to this webiste. I had purchased from the company before and was impressed with the quality. This backpack is well made and clearly by someone who understands the way it should fit a dog. I do find the side pockets to be quite small. The amount of water it will hold is for a short hike...not more than a couple of hours. It does have room for a very small travel bowl and a handful of biscuits. So if that's what you want to have your pup carry, then it may be perfect. Any more than that, look to the bigger packs. While the pack is well made, I am finding that the straps are not particularly secure in their settings. Over the course of a hike, the adjustments loosen up causing the pack to slide off to one side of my dog. We had to readjust several times during the course of our hike. Easy enough to adjust but I'd rather not have to. Overall a well made product for a very specific purpose.

Decent, but requires simple improvements from Rough Wear

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Pros: 1. Sits high on the dog 2. Doesn't allow contents to flop around 3. Has handle on top Cons: 1. Straps consistently become loose causing the pack to be mis-adjusted 2. Front area of pack, near his shoulders, gets a lot of rubbing as he brushes up against bushes, etc... this area should be beefed up with thicker, more durable material

Great Pack - Lightweight and Versatile!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Great pack! I'm thrilled with the streamlined design, strong yet lightweight material, and it fits my pup so well! I have a size medium for a long and lean 63# lab. I don't worry about it getting caught on anything and the pockets are perfectly sized. Great for putting extra treats, a phone and my keys when we go for runs (but I could fit much more!). I was a little worried about the leash loophole on the top - it really doesn't seem to be very sturdy - but Ruffwear's knot-a-leash solves this problem. I clip the carabiner diagonally through the leash loophole and the handle, which keeps the carabiner at the correct point of attachment while significantly reducing stress on the loophole. The gray/orange color is great for visibility, as is the reflective piping. She can't wait to wear it hiking :)

Love it!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Bought the large size and it fits her perfectly! I barely had to adjust and it looks so sharp and streamline. I chose the river brown because it matches her coat so well. I love the platypus hydration system; one for me; one for her. It is the right amount of space for her to carry her gear; not too much dead space because she moves FAST! Durable, adjustable, sleek, stylish, practical.

Not good

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I have a 70lb boxer named Lucy that is the craziest little thing ever! The pack is not too bad, but it kept coming loose on her. I would have to retighten it every hour or so. Then she saw a squirrel and took off after it, then the loop broke! She was gone after that! It took me 10 min to catch her! I instantly hated this product after that. Thank God she didn't get injured.

There are nice features on this pack, the handle and the reflective trim. However I was disappointed to discover that the front underbelly belt came loose consistently and I had to retighten often. Poor fit, The webbing or buckle needs improvement.

Great for smaller dogs

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

My dog weighs 35 pounds and is built like a brick. We had been looking for a pack for her to carry her food and water on 1-2 nite camping trips but couldn't find anything small enough that wouldn't weigh her down. (She gets wiped out after 5-6 miles anyway so didn't want to overload her). This is the perfect fit. No probelms with straps and have been freezing the water bottles on hot days when mountain biking to keep her cool. Highly recommended.

Great Pack!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased the Orange Sunset color for visibility on trails and in town. No complaints, but a few suggestions... Would like it if the strap between the front (collar area) and back (under forelegs) were a bit longer, I'm having a tough time getting a good fit up front. Pack stayed fairly stable even when Lucky was running full out on the trails. As temps are insane right now (high 90's w/o heat index), I froze the platypus bottles and that kept Lucky cool while running! I do worry about the strength of the attachment for leash-- will it hold back a hard leap at deer, etc?? Slim profile looks good too, Lucky doesn't get it caught on trees, etc.

Satisfied

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Great product, great idea. My only misgiving is the sizing. I followed the measuring method prescribed on the hang tag, yet there is about 2 inches of play between the front strap and my dog's torso; the straps are maxed out (full tight, as it were). So for now, the thing shakes and jiggles all over the place, although Tika doesn't mind. She can keep up with me on the even the gnarliest of singletrack, no matter how hard I'm slaying it. I made the mistake of ordering mine online; find one at a store before buying one.

Fantastic!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased the Orange Sunset color Singletrak Pack and absolutly love it. The color is a great contrast against a sable colored GSD. I take Dakota out for trail hikes a lot and this pack has been a great addition as she can carry her water as the bottles work well. Pros: great color (sunset orange), fits really well, quality made, fantastic bottles, & additional small pockets. Cons: straps do not stay adjusted well (I have had to tie knots) & does slip to one side when dog is on leash. Side note: Still waiting for Ruff Wear to make a silicone dog bowl for travel

Fantastic

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Bought this so my cattle dog (Pepper) could carry his own water on our trail runs. He took to it quickly and it was great. Now that it's really hot, I worry about him using it as much but I have put in partially frozen bottles and it seems to help! As soon as it cools a bit (100's right now in middle of the day) I know he'll be using it. I really found the handle on the back to be of a great help getting him over objects he previously had problems with. I find it GREAT when we run 'off leash'. It slops a bit when on leash but not buch and causes no problems to Pepper.

My canine companion(s): GSD/Beagle mix

LOVE IT!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is the pack I've been looking for! My GSD/Beagle mix is very muscular and I have a hard time finding equipment that fits him well. He is 20" tall (at the withers), 20.5" long (back of neck to base of tail), 26" girth, and weighs 48#. I've tried other backpacks and they are too long, the pockets come down too far, or he looks like a packmule with the smallest of items stored inside them. Not so, the SingleTrak! It fits him perfectly :) In addition to the water bladders, there is room for a 1 or 2# barbell in each of the large pockets for extra workout potential. I haven't figured out what (if anything) I would put in the smaller pockets... I wasn't sure about the orange/grey when I ordered it, but I love the combination now. The reflective trim is great; it would be difficult for someone not to see a dog wearing this pack, even in lower light. The only con is that the straps don't stay properly adjusted. After a week of stopping every few yards to tighten the straps so the pack didn't shift from side to side, I finally gave up and bought stick-on Velcro dots to attach to the straps in order to keep them adjusted correctly.

Great Pack

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I bought this Pack for my Service Dog and she loves it. The only complaint is the straps do not stay tight during use. This causes the pack to slide a little, but can be fixed with a couple of stitches through the straps. I only use this for one dog, so it was not a big issue. Over all I think the pack is great, in fact I just purchased a second one!

This is the best outdoor dog backpack. I am an avid runner and have a high energy 2 year old golden retriever that runs on the roads, trails and beaches with me. This pack carries sufficient water for her and the water bladders easily refill. The pack is durable and fits her perfectly. It has reflective strips and is high visability orange. One of the things I love the most is the ease at which I can dispense the water to my dog. Gravity literally pulls the water out. I don't have to squeeze and enough water comes out so that she can drink comfortably and not choke on the water consumption. The pack evenly distributes the weight of the water bladders and will carry a few poopy bags, some energy gels and a cell phone. The straps are padded in just the right places and dont rub or chafe even when wet. There is rubber reinforcement on the hook that attaches to the leash for added strength and durability. And my dog looks GOOD with that pack on!! I highly recommend this pack especially if you run with your dog and you want your dog to carry his/her own water supply.

Not much else to say that hasn't already been said. A nicely made backpack that rides close to the dog and high on the sides. This keeps it from getting hooked on trees and interfering with their legs. Not sure how warm it will be in the Carolina summer heat, but it will definitely be cooler than some of the other, larger packs I've seen. A very nice product, though maybe a little pricey.

Good geer to carry his own water

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love this backpack. Both my hands are free ever since I purchased this backpack for my 90lb GSD. Before I purchased this, I had too much to carry by myself such as water, treats, camera,,, etc. Now, at lease my dog can carry his own water! My dog has no problem carrying this backpack. One problem is once he drinks one of the water bottle the backpack becomes unbalanced. I wish they would solve this problem.

Good pack, tough to keep straps tight

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This pack is exactly what I was looking for to keep my new running buddy hydrated and safe. The reflective piping and orange panels provide some welcome visibility at night, and the water capacity is just right. One bad part is that the straps come loose at least once every run - I contacted tech support about this issue and they indicated they're working on improvements.

The pack is well built. The pack sits high on the dogs back and the belly strap prevents the pack from moving forward (towards the head). I do not know how long the two half liter plastic water bottles provided with the pack will last. I have found several different brands of aluminium water bottles that easily fit in the pack.

The medium in this pack fits my 72 pound long and lean golden perfectly. I like the size of the pockets, just enough for treats and some water- and the high sitting pockets dont restrict his movement at all when he's in a full sprint through the trees.

Awesome pack for dogs that need long walks ...or short walks...or hikes..

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is an amazing pack. It fits very closely to the dog, so even funny shaped dogs (skinny little chest, but round) can be happy. There are so many adjustments that help you keep the pack settled correctly. The water bottles hold the perfect amount, little pockets for treats or poop bags. Because the pack sits higher on the dog (instead of hanging down) even the most discerning dog doesn't mind carrying it. ONLY drawback is I wish the water bottles had a popup cap instead of screwing on and off, because they unscrew themselves sometimes and all the sudden Charlie's wet and confused. I just tighten them before we start hiking/walking, and so far that has kept them from leaking.

great for short day treks. super cute colors!

We love this pack for its streamlined design when his bigger Palisades Pack is overkill. My dog is strong and loves having a job. Letting him haul the water works out great for both of us. His Bivy Bowl fits nicely rolled up in the bottom pocket. I have learned that on the hotter days it's still better to put him in his Swamp Cooler and leave the water hauling to me since Hoover is dark brown and not great in the heat.

Excellent fit/quality

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I will start off by seconding the space issue but I did put a few treats in it. The pack has great balance and the fits is better than any dog pack I have ever owned ever when not perfectly balanced. The only minor downside was that tried to temp. attatch my leash to the tug loop on top and it tore the fabric (therefore I would not recomend attatching a leash there) but it didn't really hurt the functionality so I will roll with it.

Good pack for hot weather

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I hiked extensively with my young labradoodle, Stella, through the winter and spring. Bought a Singletrack so she could carry her own water with hot summer hikes approaching. The pack was easy to fit, carries a liter of water and a few snacks. She adapted to it immediately, although it seems to list to the right regardless of how I adjust it. Not really an issue since the overall weight is so low. I wish the secondary compartments were somewhat larger. Overall a good pack - well made and perfect for travelling light in hot climates.

Great lightweight pack!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We have gotten into ultralight backpacking and the Singletrack Pack has allowed our dog to do so as well. We are long distance hikers and took our huskey on his first major hike, the Long Trail of Vermont, in 2008, with the RuffWear Approach Pack. Great pack, but Smokey-dog ended up carrying too much and getting off-balance. The Singletrack Pack is lightweight and sleek, and still carries enough food for a several day resupply. We don't normally carry the platypus with him, since most places we hike he can drink from creeks and other water sources, though I've taken him trail running with the bladders. The pack fits him snugly, and we especially like how the pockets are attached (not swinging) so they don't get caught between rocks or on underbrush. Smokey-dog has the biggest testimony to the pack, though - whenever he sees it come out of the closet he gets super excited and starts bouncing around in front of the door. Highly recommended by dogs and people!

Best backpack for a dog to have

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

An excellent backpack! I have an older doberman who wasn't keeping up with us, took his time walking. I assumed from old age. When we bought these styles, my oldest doberman walks at our pace now and acts like he is years youngers. This is due to the y strap style. Excellent for dogs who are prone to have hip issues. The packs do not carry much. Once the water bags are in, you really are not getting anything else in it. The front strap doesn't adjust to tighten on the dogs very much. it leaves it loose which causes it to move about on their back. The back strap tightens up easily and as much as needed. The front doesn't. However, my eldest dog gets along better with it which makes very happy. I do recommend it. The cost might be high compared to these other backpacks, such as outward bound, however it is well worth it. To see my dog younger acting, healthier due to the longer walks and happy. Call the number and ask about their excellent warrantee. I am only going to rate it a four star due to not being able to tighten the front strap fully on my dobermans.

This pack is great for those hikes or trips where all you need is water. The pack is very sleek looking. When the 2 .5L bladders are filled, the extra "stash" pouch is barely useable. That is the only downside to this pack. Again, not a big deal.

Great pack for shorter trips

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This pack fits great! The large fits my 60lb and 80lb boys. No rubbing/raw spots on my dogs. I love how high the pockets are- great for wading and they don't get caught on brush/weeds. Also a great light pack for when you don't need water. Attachment allows for leash connection so you aren't hanging on your dog's neck while hiking.
