Amazing

These are great! Be sure to get the socks. Luke has no problem wearing them and where we live the temperature gets up to 115 degrees. The roads are murder on pup feet. These are so nice to have. He wears them every day. I'm getting a set for a friend too.

With a Service Dog paw protection is high on the lists of needs for all weather n environments (inside n out). He doesn't seem to mind them, but like all things most dogs are not born use to wearing things on their paws so takes conditioning to get him use to them. Not fallen off his paws as yet despite running, jumping and other activities.

Great!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I know I love these boots! My dog isn't a huge fan, but because he is a service dog it is important to protect his feet from salt in the winter, and hot pavement in the summer. So far, I am very happy with these boots! The only reason I did not give a 5/5 is because it is a little hard for me to get them on. I have to stretch out the fabric on top first and make sure I don't hook in his dew claws. Happy handler equals a great day! I highly recommend these boots to all dog owners I meet questioning about them.

Not Happy, Not Unhappy

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I got these booties for my Golden Retriever, Lucy, for her first big adventure to New Mexico. When I initially brought them home and had them on her just in our yard, they constantly slipped off her feet. I figured that I just got the incorrect size, so after 2 exchanges at REI, I was content with the way they fit her. On our first day in New Mexico, we tried a small 3 mile hike up a mountain. They never stayed on her feet! As the path grew steeper and she was having to dig into the ground to move up the trail, they slipped off (not all, but 1 or 2 at a time). After much frustration, I decided to try them on her again when we took a hike along the river. YOU GUESSED IT! They slipped off just from her walking! Because I was putting my trust in these booties yet again to do what they were supposed to do, protect her feet and stay on, and figured we weren't in danger of them slipping off from the river bank, I wasn't paying attention. We lost a bootie down the river. Don't get me wrong, they look super cute, and durable, they just do not stay on what so ever! Constant slipping off!!!! :( So I guess as long as you have them on your dog just for a stroll around a flat area, you should be ok.

Rad Product!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I purchased the Summit Trex along with socks in the end of December/2015. My Dog, Georgie is an Old English Sheepdog. He’s 87.6lbs and has large paws. We spend a lot of time hiking and backpacking year round. Initially, I wanted boots to protect his paws from ice building between his pads which commonly happened on long winter hikes. I tried many other brands in the past and they broke apart, often during the first use. When I received the Summit Trex the same thing happened. The first time using the Summit Trex, one of the boots ripped across the bottom where the liner meets the rubber boot. Ruffwear immediately sent me a new boot and added an extra $15.00 to my account. I’ve not had any similar problems. The Summit Trex did the trick protecting his paws from ice and more. We just completed a 30 mile cross country multi-day backpacking trip through the San Rafael Swell in Utah; very rugged terrain. Georgie wore the boots for the majority of the trip for protection from cactus patches. Over all, I estimate he’s put in approximately 150 miles while wearing the Summit Trex; no joke. Although, they are showing the signs of wear and tear (to be expected) we are still using the same boots today. Too bad I can’t add a Pic!

I'm happy with them.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

They are a bit of a pain to put on but, once they're on and fitted, they stay on. In Phoenix, the streets are dangerously hot from March through November so I have to have a durable boot and this one is extremely so. My former dog's Skyliners (the Summit Trex's almost identical predecessor) lasted 10 years and are in great condition. I have seen a lot of unraveling of the cuff but RuffWear replaced them ... great company to deal with for the past 10 years..

Better than others

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Finding dog shoes that stay on and don't rub anything raw seems like an impossible task. My service dog goes everywhere, though, and needs something to protect his feet in winter from chemical ice melt and in summer from hot asphalt. One pro is that he does not mind these boots. It took a few times of wearing them around the house before he learned to walk in them, but that is normal. And thankfully, he does not chew at them to get them off! I have never really used the boots without liners. My dog has dew claws and the socks make putting the boots on much easier. The socks also keep the boots in place and keep his toenails from puncturing the top of the boots. These boots do take a while to put on. But I suspect that if I did it every day, I would get faster at getting them on him. No boot is going to go on quickly. The back boots go on relatively quickly and easily. But unfortunately, they also fall off. They are sized properly. But because of the bassett feet, his first prominent joint is above the top of the velcro/knit top. So there is nothing to help hold them on. They stay on decently well if I tighten the straps very tightly, but then they rub the fur off his leg because they are too tight. He does not pull them off, but they fall off when caught on something while playing in deep snow. The front boots are a lot harder to get on all the way. But the velcro closes above his ankle joint so those have never fallen off. I tighten them tightly, but not as tight as the back ones. They have never rubbed anything raw and have never fallen off. Too bad his hind feet aren't the same! I much prefer the grey color to the orange, but have had trouble finding the boots in the snow when they fell off. So keep in mind that the orange is easier to see! Overall, these are high-quality boots. The soles are thick yet flexible. And the knit top helps to keep debris, snow, etc. out of the shoes. Others have mentioned problems with the knit top unraveling, but I have not had that issue. (I also use socks, so his nails cannot catch any threads.) They do not shift on my dog's feet and protect them from the elements. They might be a little hot in summer, but Ruffwear's summer boots do not have the knit top and I suspect they would fall off my dog's feet very quickly. One improvement that I would make is to have a string of some sort attached to the boots that can be hooked to something else, so that when they fall off they are still connected to a harness/collar, etc. At $15 a piece, they are expensive to replace. I will be doing something similar to mine so that I don't have to spend hours looking for his hind boots when they fall off.

Love them but....

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Bella is a big girl. She weighs 150 pounds and her front paws are larger than her back paws. Size 3.25 is perfect for her back paws but very tight on her front paws. I wish they would make a size 3.5 for a better fit and ease of putting on. The boots are hard to put on but not impossible and offer great protection from ice, salt, sand or whatever they put on streets these days. Bella volunteers each paw for me to put them on, but I imagine it would be extremely hard on an uncooperative dog. They stay on her and don't rotate even when running and playing in the snow. The cuffs keep snow out and this is a big plus. Orange color is great in the snow and the reflective sticking on the strap shows up beautifully in the dark. Great boots all in all. I will reorder them. On the negative side, they are unraveling where the cuff attaches to the boot after less than one week of use and one cuff has a hole in it. Using the liner was of no help when putting them on. I have ordered the Polar Trex and returned them because I could not get them on her. The tops of the boots are way too small for my big girl. She also has the Grip Trex boots for hiking and they are great with the exception of rocks getting in the boots. I wish they had a cuff and came in a bigger size as well.

Bought to help ease new dog into running routine. Could not get them to stay on even with liners. If we made them tight enough the strap irritated her feet. She has weird feet - giant foot pads with a couple of toes on top of the feet so that may be part of the problem.

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I bought these because the city puts down an ice-melting chemical compound when it snows and it is very irritating for my pup's paws. I wasn't expecting them to be wonderful, but these are truly a terribly designed product. They are very difficult to put on and they fall off several times on each walk. At $60, I feel like I've been taken for a ride.

Love

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I live in north pole Alaska so during the winter here it gets to be -40°f here. I got the summit boots for my service dog because of the constant amount of ice we have here I love love love these!! The black sock like part at the top is perfect for keeping snow and rocks out when we are walking through parking lots. The boots help him not slide around as much when Thor is walking and keeps the nasty ice melt chemical off his paws. My puppy did get a hold of then and tore the Velcro strips from the boot but I was able to glue them back on and they still work great and are not all tore up even after sharp puppy teeth got a hold of them. Definitely going to be buying two more pairs for my other two dogs.

Good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I've tried different brands and types of shoes for my 13lb Havanese. Shoes fit ok. Velcro can be tightened and they always stay on her paws. Soles are fantastic because they don't break down or wear a hole through them for a long time. (I've been wearing them for a month in wet snow, salt, mud) My only request is to make the Velcro area more pliable for a more snug fit and so it's easier to pull tight. Otherwise, this has been worth it and I like the material. Before I would go through 3 pairs of 20-30$ shoes per winter.

Thank you Ruff Wear. for those struggling to keep them on, all I can say is get the gatherd material in front laid down nicely and the velcro on tight and try it again. I Plan on getting a pair of these for my other dog.

Saved us from catastrophe on the Lost Coast

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Bought these at the advice of people who had hiked down the Lost Coast before. While the booties didn't stay in place very well (we even bought the sock liners too), they stayed on well enough to protect our girl from razor sharp rocks and scalding hot black sands. The booties weren't in very good shape when we completed the 25 mile hike, which makes me wonder how badly Poppy's paws could have been injured if she didn't have that extra protection. I'd recommend these booties. Make sure you measure your dog's paws accurately, and if you're in between sizes, size down for a more snug fit.

Love this product

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These are a bit pricey but soooo worth the cost! Phantom is such a water dog and is non stop when we are around it. He would run around the pool/ lake on the hot cement hopping in and out of the pool with soggy feet causing his pads and nails to just disappear. It would break my heart to have to lock him up because he did not stop even though he had literally ran his pads off. Then the next week of recovery was so pathetic and heart breaking to see him suffer. So I went on a quest to find the best water sock/ shoe to hold up to his rambunctiousness. It sure was a challenge locating shoes that will work for him along with getting the sizing correct. I finally found this brand and decided to pull the trigger. They were a perfect fit ( the fitting was super helpful!) and he loves them. The are super cute and float in the water if they do happen to slip off you can locate them. I would highly recommend this product to any dog lover!!

We measured based on the measuring scale on the Ruffwear site and ordered that size. The front 2 are a little tough to get on, especially with the dew claw. The back slide on quite easily. Seeing him walk the first few times was pathetic but he got used to them very quickly. I had to pull them up every 15 minutes or so. I had them velcroed pretty tight but I didn't want to hurt him. All in all they're great for the hot summer pavement!

Nice try

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I wish Ruffwear would open their eyes and realize there are more small dogs that hike!! Why is this the smallest size? The sock liners I got for them were very over sized even though they're the smallest. The shoes I was worried would be the same but to my surprise, they were tough to get on! (Probably because the socks were so big on them) but with dew claws, I wasn't taking chances. Just finished a 50 mile hike in 4 days with them around the Three Sisters in Oregon. The trail is mainly pumice/dust/sand/lava rocks which get real hot during a Summers day. These helped with the lava fields, but even with the attached "gaiters" to these boots, we had to stop and take off their boots 3x a day to get out all sand and rubble that got into their boots. I would recommend these for hikes, but not in this kind of terrain. These had a harder time staying on my short haired terrier. They stayed on the long haired just fine, but still had some kicks on the side of her legs from rubbing (even with those expensive socks!)

Don't stay on

Would you recommend this product?.: No

It may not exist, but I've been in search of some dog boots that stay on and are durable enough to withstand a hard charging dog wearing a pack traveling off trail in the high sierra. These are not them. The dog can kick them off in no time. I have to use athletic tape to keep them on his feet. and by the end of a five day trip he had numerous raw spots where the strap rubs. I think a neoprene gator with a velcro tightening strap would be a better answer. Also $60 is pretty steep for little dog shoes.

It seems this product has not received great reviews. However, they have worked very well for me. I bought them because i do a lot of running in town and did not want to hard pavement to wear too mush on her pads. They are also great on rocks when we go to the trail or crag because her feet are not used to it. They were easy to fit when I used the online guide and with the bark n boot liners she has never seemed to have much issue with them. They are, however kind of difficult to get on and I have to tighten them quite a bit so they dont fall off after she has been running for a while so I am always a little afraid that it will be too tight. We both like them, though.

They look great! However, after sizing my dog and putting the boots on, they won't last 5 minutes around the house before they fall off. I watch her to make sure she isn't pulling them off. I can't say much on how they work with my dogs because she hasn't even been able to get used to walking in them yet before they started falling apart. My dog has worn them a total of 2 times around the house for maybe 20 minutes or so at a time. The ankle lining on the boots had a string loose on the inside and it's beginning the irreversible unraveling process. I got them so she'd have some grip on the floors as she's an old rotty with arthritis. Also for her to share with my younger dog who I take on long runs to protect his feet.... for $60 I feel like they shoulda lasted a bit longer than a few trial wears it makes me wary. I'll give it a 3 only because the boot itself is still useful but I'm disappointed with the knit tops.

good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The knit tops on these boots keep out the sand/fine gravel that were a problem with the Grip Trex. Unfortunately, we have used these 3 times for a total of 5 hours and lost 3 of 8 boots the third time. I tighten the straps as well as possible, but the dogs run through bushes, cattails, and anything else in their way, and are in and out of the river repeatedly. The velcro fills with dirt and I am unable to re-tighten the straps. I think it is their recklessness that is the main problem, but at $15 each they are too expensive to lose so quickly. On dogs that will walk or run around a bush instead of crashing through for hours the boots would probably be fine. They certainly look durable. I did find that the orange tops helped me to see when a boot was lost, but unfortunately I didn't find any of the lost ones this time. The dogs have lost boots on previous outings, but we managed to find them before. I've never had hunting dogs before and these boots would have been great on any of my previous dogs. I probably won't use them in the future but I would recommend them for more normal dogs or for more normal activities.

The product is easy to get on, easy to get off, easy for the dog to adjust to, comfortable to wear, easy to wash, but sometimes slips around on the dog's foot. Nena is fine in fluffy snow, but always has trouble when it is wet or slushy. She would first pick up one paw and then curl up with snow/slush clad paws in the air. A co-worker had these on his dog on a snowy hike and they worked great. The first couple of walks in them were hilarious, but once she was used to them, they worked great. I gave a 4 instead of 5 because unless you put them on just snuggly enough they can come off. I think as I get more experience that will be a non-issue.

I bought these for my oldest Weim that has arthritis in her front paws and her toes are turning and causing abrasions on her inner pads. She is terrified of our hardwood floors because of slipping. These work great for the floor. It has given her confidence and also has helped tremendously outside to keep from getting abrasions on her pads. I only gave them a 4 star because they tend to unravel inside and also her nails caused punctures after only a few months. A person complained that they lost theirs on a walk. If you read the insert it tells you to re-tighten if necessary after walking. This is especially true if they get wet. You have to check and make sure the velcro is tight enough. My rule of thumb is that if I can get my little finger inside, then it's a tight fit, but you have to be careful that you don't cut off their circulation. I ordered more for my other 2 Weims for the miserable winter we had. They loved having them on hiking in the snow. They really didn't have much of an adjustment period either. I will tell you that it makes putting them on much easier if you buy the boot liner. That has made me and my dogs much happier putting shoes on!

Turbo and I enjoy running on trails in the hills around Morgan Hill near our home. There are lot's of thorns though, which has caused Turbo numerous paw injuries and infections. With the Summit Trex shoe, no more thorn problems and Turbo is perfectly happy wearing them. He gets lot's of "nice shoes!" compliments too from other runners. As for staying on, regarding the other comments, the first two or three times with a new set, it is tricky to get the velcro adjusted right. As soon as they break in a bit, then they just need to be tightened very snuggly around the leg and they stay on fine. One other comment to ruffwear is that the elastic around the cuff sometimes starts to unravel, but I snip it with scissors and it's fine.

poor, not worth the hefty price tag

Would you recommend this product?.: No

It's been a historically miserable winter in Massachusetts. Lando can't walk outside when there's a 2 inch layer of salt on the sidewalks and roads, or when the windchill is less than zero. We bought these because the grip trex and polar trex wouldn't fit him, as his paws are on the smaller side. Simply put, these boots do not stay on properly while my dog is walking at a leisurely pace. I made sure I fitted them properly. The hind boots are fine. The front ones need to be adjusted every block we walk. Very frustrating considering how expensive they are. Also, the craftsmanship is subpar - one of the boots has already completely lost the elasticity of one of the bands that holds it in place, and I've only had them for maybe a month. I've never complained about ANY purchase I've ever made, but these are entirely unsatisfactory. The silver lining is, that while they are on, Lando can walk on salty roads. Unfortunately, they don't stay on.

Terrific Boots

Fantastic boots that are durable and comfortable for our dog. Our dog is an exceptionally fast walker even in the snow. These boots stay on and give great protection and avoids any frozen/salty paws. Best of all with no pain, we can walk off his energy without worries from the weather.

Loki loves his boots in snowy weather. He runs with youthful abandon because his feet are protected and warmer. No uncomfortable snow buildup in his paws. Great design that when properly sized stay reliably on the paws. It takes a few minutes to pull them on so we do not use them everyday in the winter but mainly when there is fresh snow. Great product at a fair price.

My TM was getting a build-up of road salt congealed in the hair between his pads and it was irritating his skin. After soaking them in the tub, I had to cut out all of the hair, leaving him with feet plucked like a bird ready for roasting! I did my research and bought Summit Trex, xxl. So far I'm very impressed and they fit him wonderfully. Now he can spend all the time he wants out in the snow without getting sore feet!

It did the job

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

With the unusually cold weather in DC this year and chilling winds, these boots really saved us. My pup wouldn't do his business for 2 days, he is not used to doing it in our tiny patio and all attempts at walking ended up with me carrying him back in my arms because within 5-7 minutes on ice and snow he would start limping refuse to go further. Desperate on the 3rd day, we finally put on the boots, and it did the trick. I'll agree with other reviewers that they are hard to put on and you have to tighten them pretty well, but overall my pup didn't seem to mind walking in them.

The boots work great. Sheila is a small / medium sized terrier. She is very low to the ground. We use the boots for walking in the snow and very cold winter conditions. Sheila can run and hike in them in deep snow. The trick is making sure the Velcro is extra tight. We can walk much further in the cold / snow boots with the boots on.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Overall I really like these boots. I had some fit issues with the grip tex. They did not fit the hound feet of my Ibizan Hound well. I decided to try these boots and I'm really happy I did! I use these boots when biking my dogs and they are the only boots I've had that have stayed on well while they were running. My only problem with them is that some of the threads are already coming out of the top elastic part and I've only used them 2 or 3 times.

My canine companion(s): Yorkshire Terrier

Great product, faulty dog?

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Picked these up last year after the polar vortex settled over NJ - without a fenced yard we are forced to take Milo out on walks to relieve himself and to burn off some of that terrier energy. Because of how cold it was for me bundled up I thought the Summit Trex would be helpful for Milo to withstand the bitter cold a little better. First walk, I didn't tighten them enough so they slipped off one by one. The next few times I tightened them up a bit more until I started to find the 'sweet spot' of being snug enough without being too tight. I don't think they are the best fit for smaller dogs - at least those with shorter or more compact feet. Milo stopped growing at 16 lbs so he isn't the size of a regular yorkie but he is still a peanut in the dog world. Milo's front feet seem to fit in the boot better than the back and he has less of an issue with them as well. The back ones always seem too tight when I have the Velcro cinched down enough to keep them in place, to the point that it looks like he is walking on tip-toe on his back end. There is no easy way to get them on - think of trying to put socks and shoes on a squirming toddler that has claws AND teeth. You just have to be patient and I had to do lots of clicker training/positive rewarding in the house before we could even go outside with them on. Overall I love the boots - they are well made, seem to be wearing well for us (paved sidewalks are our primary areas to walk) and they do protect the dogs feet from salting and the elements. It can take some training to get the dog used to the feeling of something on their feet and they may not be the best fit for smaller dogs that just don't have the weight to bend the ankle of the boot when wearing them

Dissapointed!

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I bought these boots with the recommended socks for my pup because her paws get too cold in the winter and she doesn't last long outside. I measured her paws according to the Ruffwear sizing chart and ended up getting a different size for her front and back paws. I am so disappointed! When she wears them with the socks, they slip right off as she runs (trust me, I tightened the Velcro as much as it would go). Then I tried removing the socks so that the boots wouldn't slip off and instead gave my poor dog blisters! The boots also kept turning over so the sole was in the top of her paw and consequently they already tore up after only 3 uses. Not happy at all! I bought 2 sweaters from you and I was so impressed at the quality and fit but these boots are terrible.

My dog has skinny pencil so legs and giant paws. The sleeve is useless and hinders putting giant paws in the boot. They don't help it stay on either. Commonly during the run the fall off. The good, once you Velcro the heck out of it, he seems to run fine in them. When walking he tries to taken them off. Running, it puts him into beast mode and makes him run faster. I would buy them again, but might get the vibram ones.

Not bad but the sock stitching comes out

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I use these boots on both of my Aussies for when I take them out on the rollerblades. They used to run their paws raw but this completely solves the problem. I have found that they do need to wear socks but overall I'm pleased that they can run all out and the shoes will not come off. The only con I have is that the stitching comes out of the sock portion above the boot. It pretty much completely frayed away and gets really annoying as it sticks all over the velcro and causes quite a puzzle any time I go to put the boots on. If the boots were older I wouldn't mind much but I had only used them a few times before this b egan.

Pretty good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I knew, before buying the shoes, that small dog owners were not impressed by them --- I'd read the comments; but given the place I live and the extremely filthy, nearly non existent sidewalks, not having dog shoes was not an option, so I bought the shoes anyway, hoping that the shoes would work with my 6.5lbs. mutt. He's had them for about a week, now, and that's how long it's taken him to learn how to walk with them (given I walk him about three times a day, for about 30 minutes) --- not that he couldn't walk with them... just that the shoes would slip off easily in the beginning and I'd have to slip them back on again and again and again.... and again. It takes patience, especially as the walks get longer; but it seems like it was worth it as they finally stay on! I'm not sure why they kept on slipping off in the beginning while they don't know; maybe I chose the wrong size when I bought them (although I'm not sure I'd have been able to slip the shoes on as well, had they been smaller); maybe because the tread part is too long (someone else has comment on that and I do believe Pitchou would have had an easier time learning how to walk with them had they been shorter); or both. But I guess what it all comes down to, in the end, is that the boots work and my dog is happy with them on --- a week's time isn't much when I'll look back after a year, especially as they look really well made, and made to last! I do recommend them but I also do think Ruffwear can make some improvements.

Rubbed his dew claw pads completely RAW!!!

Would you recommend this product?.: No

Since Sulley is my service dog, he goes with me everywhere and sometimes that's on hot pavement. I wanted booties that would keep his poor feet from getting burned. After trying all we could in various stores I settled on these. The guide was helpful on the box and they fit well. They stayed on well minus when I accidentally flat-tired him and that one popped off. My issue is this... BOTH his dew claw pads were rubbed COMPLETELY RAW in just a few hours of wear. Yes, I'm aware that there are "socks" you can buy with them, but if these boots are going to RUB OPEN SORES ONTO YOUR DOG'S PADS, then they need to just up the price a bit and INCLUDE the socks. I'm absolutely horrified and now my poor guy is laying here next to me with bandages on both his front feet and IN PAIN while I have to either be vigilant in watching him to keep him from licking/tearing the bandages or make him wear a cone. I bought these boots to AVOID medical problems with the pads of his feet, NOT to CAUSE them! So disappointed...

I did my research and was sooo excited about these. But after having them on my the spin around when my dog runs and every 30-60 seconds I have to stop him and spin them back around. I sized them right and pulled the Velcro as tight as they would go. If they were any smaller I wouldn't be able to get them around his paws. But they just won't stay in place and after two wearing they have holes on the tops of the shoes because after they spin around he is actually walking or running of them upside down. I think you should make these with the same material all over on the top and the bottom so when they do slip around they won't get holes in them.

The quality of the boots is very good. I used them for hiking around rocky areas to protect my dogs paws. It took a little getting used to, and I had to tighten them down quite a bit. The first hike, a couple of the booties would fall off until I figured how tight they needed to be. The paw measurements I took for her size are pretty exact! I am glad I did not go any smaller, I could have possibly even gone a little bit larger as they fit her pretty snug. Overall though, they work great and she got many compliments and photos taken because of them :)

Very Frustrating to put on my dog

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I purchased these for the super cold winters we have in Denver. I purchased the socks and the boots for my dog. Although impressed by the quality of the product. I was super disappointed in the complexity of physically getting these on my dog's feet correctly. These are so hard to get on correctly that I have never been able to get my dog to sit still long enough to get all four on his paws and adjusted to the point I would feel he was ready to go outside in them. These were a waste of money for me, have never been used outside and went right back in the box and into storage in the closet. The two that I was able to get on my dog, fit very strangely I am not sure I would trust these to actually stay on if he were running around in the snow outside. Oh, buyer beware, they do not come with any suggestions for easily getting them on your pet's paws. Which would be very helpful, as I am sure there is a method for putting these on your pet quickly. I don't know of any dog that would sit perfectly still long enough to wrestle these on their paws the way you are required to do for a proper fit. I am only giving 2 stars for the quality of the materials used to make the product. Fit and ease of use I would give maybe a 1 star.

My dog has terrible allergies to fresh cut grass. In the spring and summer, she needs boots to protect her. These boots although high quality just don't fit well. They are difficult to get on, and then once her foot is in them, they are too large and slip off and spin around. I measured the way they suggested, I'm just not sure if this design will work and that's a shame because they are not cheap boots. I am going to try ordering a zip up boot w a smaller "pad" area and see if that works.

That being said, they are certainly protecting Tsypa from the elements and we haven't come across any other brand in this quality.

They do not last long and tear too easily above the toe. They need to that the material thicker that wraps over toe to be heavier. Would not recommend if looking for boots that are durable, but for simplicity they work.

well built, durable, poorly fitted for smaller dogs

Would you recommend this product?.: No

These boots are exceptionally well-made from durable materials, BUT! they are not suitable for smaller dogs. When I measured my dog for sizing I was surprised to learn that I only had to measure the width of the dogs paw, not the length. Once we got our boots and tried them on, it turned out that the tread on the boot is almost twice as long as his paw, which means the velcro cinch is up to high to keep the boots properly placed since they slide down tot he top of his paws. Within seconds of getting him booted and cinched the boots slipped and it looked as if he were wearing flippers. It's far too difficult for him to walk around this way. In the end we resorted to only using the boots when it's an absolute necessity to protect his paws from the incredibly low temperatures we've been having. Even now we've had to add another piece of adhesive velcro to the boot, approximately halfway between the cinch and the toe-end of the boot. This keeps them on in the proper position, but the bunching of all of that extra fabric on the top of the boot, not to mention that extra tread, creates for a highly unnatural gait. This product is probably fantastic for larger dogs or dogs with longer paws, but if you have a smaller breed, or simply a dog with shorter paws you should keep looking. It's a shame considering how well-made these are, that someone didn't take into consideration that small and large dogs have different shapes.

These shoes are awesome! I would and will buy them again!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

These shoes are awesome! Great quality! My dog has no problem walking and running in them! I had a back shoe fall off 2 times but that was before I realized I had to make sure the shoes were tight on his back feet. He used to lick his feet constantly after coming inside and now he doesn't bother! These shoes have made a huge difference in the snow and rain! I would and will buy them again!

Love It

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I do daily trail runs with my Yellow Lab, Turbo, near our home in Morgan Hill, California. We've had regular problems with thorns getting in his paws and causing infections. The last thorn was very deep and he needed surgery. So I now have him wearing the Summit Trex in Orange. He always takes a few goofy steps at first but then goes right into running and he is very happy in them. He sprints through tall weeds and they stay on fine. Previously we had the Grip Trex version but dirt and gravel came in through the top. The Summit Trex is great with the cuff above the shoe because no dirt or gravel gets in. It's important to tighten the strap snuggly around the shoe. If the shoe is coming off it's because they are too loose. I've been using these daily for a couple weeks now and Turbo and I love them! I'll probably get a second set in the grey to expand is wardrobe. He get's lot's of smiles and attention from people when they see his shoes!

Perfect protection for the arthritic old paws of our girl. If she was younger she could go forever in these. An added plus is that you can buy individual boots rather than just a set. (We use larger boots on the swollen print paws.)

These dog booties came incredibly handy during the recent extreme cold and snow in the Northeast. My dog Clyde is very small, around 13 pounds, so it's a bit hard to get these on his feet. However, once they are on tight they are greatHe was comfortable in the snow, bouncing around happily and safe from the salting in the neighborhood.

My dog Gibson took to his boots right away after a few awkward and hilarious first steps. After we started hiking he had no problem moving about and strutting along. Pretty good.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have the Grip Trex boots for my other dog Bane and we use them with the socks/liners. I ordered these boots for Raven hoping to skip a step. They are easy to get on, and they protect her feet, so they serve their purpose. But I like the Grip Trex better. They have a better design to pull the velcro tight without bunching up the shoe material, which looks uncomfortable to me on the Summit Trex. The little sock part at the top doesn't stay up to well, and as someone else said, I've already had some unraveling. They seem to be less breathable, which is good in the cold weather, and I do love the orange color. I recommend them, because they work, but I think Ruffwear could make some improvements.

Good quality, but not for my breed.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is very good quality product and not as bulky as similar products on the market. Unfortunately my dog is 6 pound Italian greyhound with very skinny legs. As much as I wanted this product to work, it didn't. I tried putting it on him and the smallest size Trex was just falling off. Too bad I've lost the receipt and didn't try to return it. I love Ruff Wear so it was a disappointment. I gave it 3 stars cause I think product is well made, just not for my pooch.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I wish the elastic part was better made like on the muttluks. I put them on my 12 year old golden to protect his feet from the salt on the streets. I thought the rubber soles would work better than the muttluks. Nothing works on ice. After a couple wears the seams are already not looking too good. The boots seemed to work but I suspect the elastic part will rip before long.

I have been searching for good quality boots for my dogs and I finally found them. These boots are easy to put on and they stay on (if you get the correct size). Both of my dogs have bigger feet in the front then the back. RuffWear was able to split the sizes for me! Now I am able to go on our 2+ mile walk in the dead of winter in feet of snow without worrying about my dogs feet. My dog Jackson even went tracking in the snow with the boots on. I like how the boots are flexible and not stiff, so they give my dogs more flexibility. We have gone on walks with very cold temperatures and when I took the boots off at home, their feet were nice and warm.

Excellent

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Do yourself a favor, and purchase the Bark’n Boot Liners™ as well. They make putting on the Summit Trex Boot so much easier, and the over all fit improves. Stryder is a one year old Australian Shepherd, and not going for a walk is not an option. Our cold temperatures combined with excess salt in the city was incredibly painful for him. He would actually stop walking and lay down. I have other Ruffwear products with outstanding quality and workmanship, and just new these boots would be well designed and durable. Pain free walks in the city, and runs out on the trails are what it's all about. Highly recommend!

satisfied

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Had the summit trex boots for about 4 day snow. We have 6-7 inches of snow so far. Decided to get these boots because my dog was having trouble walking outside because it has been so cold and where I live they put the salt deicing everywhere. So i wanted to get her something to protect her feet. I noticed right away the difference in her demeanor when she was outside with the boots on. We are very active and the boots have allowed us to be outside for longer walks which has been nice to get her exercise in the winter. She has due claws on her front paws and when I put her boots on I try and make sure they stay flat against her and haven't had any problems yet. The one thing that gets annoying is the velcro that holds the straps on gets snow packed in pretty easy, so when we are on walks i have to adjust them a few times. Today I pulled the top sock part of the boot down over the velcro and it worked a lot better. Haven't had trouble with them falling off yet and hopefully won't as other people have had in the reviews. Got them at the local REI store for ten dollars cheaper than online, which I found interesting. Also got one size bigger my dogs paw was 2 inches wide and got a 2.25 doesn't seem to matter to her or bother her. Been satisfied thus far with them and hope they continue to work for my dog.

The boots just came in and as for now they fit well, but I took a smaller size than I shoud have, so keep that in mind. I'm not planning on using those boots in any other case than salt and chemicals on the street, plus when my dog injuries her paw (as she did recently). I don't recommand using those in forests etc, I think boots are best for city-streets walks and paw injuries.

Stays on her paws much better and are much easier to put on than the Polar Trex, which usually went flying within 5 minutes. So far we've had multiple succesful off leash winter weather outings and only once did a boot come off. The sock portion doesn't offer much protection and usually just slides down, additionally one tore slightly on the second day. Not perfect, but they keep her bare paws off the freezing ground so she's not too busy trying to hold alternating feet in the air versus playing.

She loves to run resulting in wearing down her pads no matter what the surface other than grass or sand. Our kennel is particularly problematic. We were given some inexpensive boots that didn't work at all. Her first kennel stay with these proved successful although they sewed a large snap to on the cuff and velcro to keep them on. Prior to at home I was unsuccessful in keeping them on for any extended period. She does well wearing them. End result is for the first time she returned home not limping so I'm extremely happy. Let's face it, keeping booties on dogs has to be a challenge. If my baby can play without injury, I'm pleased. We have only had her in them for one stint at the kennel so I can't comment on wear-n-tear as others have.

They seemed like a great product at first, but the stitching has started to fail where the sole and fabric meet. Also, my dogs back pad has already torn through the sock part in just one run. I'm not too terrible impressed, but they have prevented his pads from getting worn down. I just wish they were more durable for the price. I should've bought me some shoes.

I purchased these for my 8 year old Boxer who was recently diagnosed with "the worst case of arthritis" my vet has ever seen. He was basically dragging his leg and started slipping on my hardwood floors, even when standing still. I ordered the Summit Trex and am pleased to say they work terrific. In the beginning, they were slipping slightly, but I just adjusted the velcro to be more snug and they stayed in place. I have to admit, the "dance" he did when getting used to them was pretty funny to watch, but now he is used to them. I only have him wear them indoors, as my yard is all grass and he is fine out there. I would highly recommend these!

My 15 year old Golden can still muster the energy for a nightly walk, but due to arthritis she drags one leg slightly and in the course of one lap around the block, would grind down her claws on that foot. I tried several other brands of K9 footwear that she would routinely "throw" several times a walk, or simply have trouble walking in.. I tried these and have never looked back. She has never thrown one, ever, and has actually worn one set out, which I was delighted to replace. Thanks to Rough Wear my "Golden Geezer" get her walk every night.

We've had these boots for a couple weeks and they are already falling apart. I had really high hopes for this product since they appeared much more durable then what you can find in pet stores. Aside from the shady quality, the straps fit right over my dog's dew claws and press them into her feet causing them to bleed. Needless to say I need to keep looking for a durable dog boot to protect her feet

Great design

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I decided to try these boots for Riley because I really liked how they have the gaiter. We also have the Grip trex and the biggest problem was that they would fill with gravel or road salt, etc. we took a trial hike that had both gravel and dirt trail and Riley had no problem. They stay on better than the Grip Trex also (which work best with the liners). I may add the liners in the winter for extra protection from the cold but I am looking forward to these protecting my Service Dog's feet both on hot pavement and in the midst of winter ice and road salt. She adapted very quickly to these boots and acted like they were comfortable on her. One note is that the stitching around the elastic on one of the gaiters started unraveling after our test hike. I trimmed it and am hoping it was just excess. Other than that, the craftsmanship is great. Riley and I very much appreciate the gear Ruffwear makes so she can help me enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors!
