Great Product!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This bright, very visible light lets me know where my Search and Rescue Black Lab is in dark and low light situations. It is dependable and even though small, shines brightly. I like to attach it to her harness rather than her collar and it works beautifully. Thanks for a great product.

Love it.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Because Lady is a Service Dog, it is very important she is visible at all times. I love that you can change the Beaon from flashing to solid. This is great for evening walks and when we let her out at night. We have a very big yard. I will always use one of these. I have also purchased an extra for the back of my son's clothing for walks at night.

Very visible

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Have two of these for our Goldens. We have a cabin and let the dogs out at night to do their business. The strobe setting is very bright and they seem to be pretty rugged. We've used them several times a week on the average for about a year. One of the lights will now only illuminate for a minute before it shuts off. I'm assuming it's the batteries. I'll replace them this week and we'll see... Very satisfied with these units.

Outstanding

One of the best safety and anxiety lessening products I have bought for my dog. Black and tan dog runs over 4 acres at night and is invisible at 20 feet. With this light I can always know where she is...or isnt. Lightweight, very bright, easy and strong clip on, does not appear to bother the dog.

Great Security Light

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The Mutts Manzo have proudly worn the Beacon for 4 years . We like the multi flash mode, so we can tell which dog is which, when we let them out at night. Just wish it was water repellant. We forgot to unclip before they went stick fetching. Ruffwear- maybe you could work on that- Two Paws Up from The Mutts Manzo.

Good Product

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I like how The Beacon has a bright light and has slow flash, quick flash and solid light options for maximum visibility. I use this light for my guide dog for the blind when we are traveling in low light conditions. The clip on the back of The Beacon enables me to hook it to the side of her harness or to a loop on the back of her jacket, and the metal ring on top would allow me to hook it onto a collar.

best I've found

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Gypsy is my search dog. Finding something to illuminate her at night is hard because of her long hair. I've tried the others and they did not hold up or were not as bright as this light. It has a solid attaching point that allows it to dangle and can take the beating Texas brush gives you.

Well made

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is a nice light. The thing I like best is that it is easy for me to turn the light on and off or blinking mode. Other makers of these lights don't seem as bright and are almost impossible to change modes. I think Ruffwear makes it usable. You need to be able to change it quickly, not have to spend 15 min trying to get it on.

It slides a bit when my dog is really active but that is my only minor complaint. High visibility even through fog and terrain. I really like the different flashing options. I would highly recommend this product for any dog owner. Great for night time runs, I always feel much safer knowing my dog will be clearly visible. I've gotten several compliments and inquiries as to where I got it when we are out running.

Two Bits of Information. I have the older and this new model. I use them clipped to myself (headband) for running in the dark. YOU ARE VERY VISIBLE!!! I have had the older one for 3 years and it has 100+ hours of running time on it. Just replaced the 2 CR2032 for the first time in the older model. Found these directions online to replace...And, the battery replacement instructions are as follows: * Use a screwdriver or coin to pry off the backplate-opposite the lens * Remove batteries and replace with new batteries * Orient both batteries in the same direction, with the positive terminals facing the battery cover * Align marks and replace cover

I was worried after reading other reviews about the light falling off due to a flimsy connector. I ordered mind about a month ago and haven't had any trouble with it - I keep it clipped to the back of my dog's jacket when we go camping and it has stayed put so far. I love being able to locate him from a distance - that light is seriously bright!

We bought 3 beacons. Our dog is dark brown, and we often exercise after dark off leash. He's a hunter and goes through all the tall grass and heavy brush. Had clipped a Beacon to his collar, and he lost it first time out. So next time I clipped to the loop on his Cloud Chaser coat especially designed for a Beacon. Lost it first time out. The third Beacon wouldn't stay turned on. Ruffwear gave us a credit for that one.

Good light for night-time running or hiking

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I use this light a lot during the winter when I take my dog running at night. It works well for keeping track of where he is when he's running around the trails. I mainly attach it to the light loop on the Ruffwear track jacket, but have also attached it to his collar. It's light-weight and has a small profile so that it's barely noticeable when the light is turned off. The battery has always lasted me well even though my dog always runs through streams and has completely submerged the light on more than one occasion. Also, the battery is pretty easily replaceable which is always nice for when it does die. The only problem I've run into recently is that sometimes it will come unhooked from the track jacket. The first one I had lasted me about a year before it fell off and was lost (the battery was still working fine though). The second one I bought fell off within a week of getting it so I'm not sure if it was just coincidence or if the clasp design changed. I'm going to start using the ring attachment as well now so that problem should be resolved. Overall I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who takes their dog out in the early morning or late evening. Even if he's good about not running off it's always reassuring to know exactly where my dog is at.

The Beacon is an excellent addition to our walks and runs. Dark comes early in Wisconsin winters and the Beacon produces a bright light with options for a steady beam or flashing light. The trick-o-treaters were jealous of our lights

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We have a light each - one for each dog and one for the leash for whomever is walking them! Its pretty dark out here after 4pm and the lights work great. On Halloween, we had the dogs out around 5:30pm and all the trick-or-treaters ooh'ed and aah'ed about the dogs and their special lights. :) All they had was flashlights and glowsticks... Improvements: We wish it was easier to change the batteries (daily use ~1 hour/day for 6 weeks and one of the beacons is dead already) and/or you sold battery packs.

So far, so good. Have had it about a week and I love how visible Percy is in our pitch black quiet neighborhood at night. Not that much traffic, foot or vehicle, but with nights coming earlier, I like him being so visible. He is a large cat and I clipped the Beacon on the back of his collar. It fits great. Have another cat, smaller, am wondering if she could manage the size of the Beacon. Wish it came with a smaller size option.

Bright

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have purchased several of these lights over the past 3 or 4 years. The old design did have an issue with not being water tight. Mine would either blink and not turn off or not blink at all when it got wet. If I opened it up, took out the batteries and let it dry out it would start working again. After a few times of this happening the switch on the bottom would just stop working and I would have to purchase another light. The new design has the switch on the side and so far has not shorted out from dampness or direct contact with water. I must say I liked the lens on the old design better because it it was wider on the sides thus throwing more peripheral light . The first thing I do when I get a Beacon light is add an extra ring and a carabiner type clip for easy attachment to the collar ring. I have never lost a Beacon light attached in this manner.

I haven't seen any reviews on this so maybe it is just me but the beacon patterns in which it blinks are really annoying. Instead of a steady blink on and off, it is more like a strobe light. I've seen warnings for possible seizures on lesser gadgets. I also wish the design of the lens was dome-like instead of flat so it would be more visible from the side. I love Ruffwear and have been more than happy with their products. This one could be better.

The first one I bought I clipped on her collar - it fell off and we lost it in the woods/yard. So, I thought it was such a great product I thought I would use the ring this time - which worked fine, kinda hard to get on...but, it stayed on so that's the point, right!? Well, today she was outside during Hurricane Sandy and the light came on by itself....I took her collar off and unscrewed the back and the battery was soaking wet. I would have to recommend this product with reservation...

I have to open our gym at 5:30AM..thus I walk my dogs at 4:30AM! I think its a necessity to have the Beacon on them. Funny story: I got stopped by the police who had no clue what the flashing light was who saw us a half mile away! He told me I really had him baffled as to what it was. I often see a biker out with a Beacon on as well. I am always afraid the dogs may bolt on me in the dark if approached by a stranger or another "dog on the loose", so I know not only can people see me, but I will always be able to find them in the dark with the Beacon! Seriously a great product for those who take their dogs out in the dark.

I have 2 dogs--we walk early morning when it's dark--no water except for sprinklers (yes, suburban dogs). One dog likes to walk in the mud and sniff, which is where the Beacon got a bit dirty--but nothing submerged. After ONE MONTH, the Beacon shorted out. The other dog who stays away from the dirt? His still works, but i'm really disappointed in Ruffwear as it's a brand I trust completely. Except for the Beacon. I'm using my bike lights now--sadly, those work much better and were less expensive.

It helps to remove back of locket to allow innards to air dry over night, but that is a hassle. Battery life is not great even without contact with water, but, that said, it is still the best I've found and am ordering more today.

Very handy, great for city walks and hiking alike.

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

In my experience the beacon stays nicely on Miles' 3/4 inch nylon collar for nighttime walks in the city (so many bad drivers here!) and when hiking. It puts out a really nice strong light, and I like the different settings it has. Miles isn't much of a water dog, so I can't speak to its use in water. But it has done fine in rain so far...

I have shorted out two of these in the last 2 weeks. On both occasions the dog went swimming, the light turned itself on and would not go off until the battery died.

wonderful, but needs stronger attachment

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love this for letting my dogs out at night. However, it has fallen off the dog collar a few times and although I am not using the ring, but the other attachment, I would like for the ring to be more heavy duty. Otherwise it would get five stars

Lite is great

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I agree with the first few reviews, I have lost a couple of beacons, the ring is so flimsy, does not live up to the ruffwear reputation!!! Border collies by definition are ruff dogs. The beacon, let alone the batteries are expensive. To buy both really adds up. Please ruffwear - make a ruffer dog collar light.

I Expect more from Ruff Wear...

Would you recommend this product?.: No

First, Let me say this. At a glance, if you are not actually using the beacon, its great. However, I expect better quality and durability from RuffWear. 1. The Ring to attach the Beacon is a joke. Its not only insanely small, but obviously cheap. I expect better from Ruffwear. 2. The clip--I'd love to be able to clip this to Finn's life jacket or K-9 Overcoat, but I'm far too worried that it will never stay on. I'm constantly grabbing it after it falls off. The clip needs to have some sort of sliding mechanism to ensure that it will stay on when the dog is actually in movement! Ruff Wear designs for the active dog, and I feel like the attachment options in this beacon forgot to keep in mind that Ruff Wear dogs are Active Dogs! 3. The price--If you are going to make a cheap beacon, price it accordingly. The price of Ruff Wear's Beacon implies quality and durability that we usually expect from Ruff Wear. This is just not the case. The beacon seems like an afterthought and not like the typical well thought-out products Ruff Wear usually sells. I hope to see improvements to match the price and reputation of other Ruff Wear products.

Light works just fine. Blinks, strobes, or solid glow. Mine came with a different ring than the one depicted, and it is tiny. You'll probaly want to swap it out for one like the one in the photo.

Watertight? - NOT BY A LONG SHOT!! Durable? - LASTED ONE MONTH!! The 2 of these "dog tested" lights cost me $40 and proved to be no better than the pieces of crap I can buy for $5 which last about the same amount of time! How disappointing...crap is crap no matter how much you pay for it! One star only because I have to!!

Like it, but didn't withstand the wear and tear of our lifestyle...

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We bought this for our black dog so she was visible when we let her out at night to go to the bathroom, and for the night time walks. She loves to swim and has taken many swims while The Beacon was still on her collar. Didn't cross my mind to take it off, but it filled with water and shorted out. We got all the water out and let it dry out, but it still does not work properly. I loved it, and would recommend it to anyone, but make sure you take it off before they jump in the river!

I love this product...so much so that I am on my 3rd one since the first two were lost. There should definitely be an option to clip it on and off the collar in a more secure but removable way than the plastic clip or the O ring. Aside from that much nicer than the cheap ones I have gotten at the pet store. A well made product......

Cheesy metal ring useless. Dog ran as ring opened up. Lucky to get him back. Buton not identifiable enough. Used "white out" to paint it white. Works well but othr than metal cheap ring- waaaaaaaay overpriced when including shipping. Illuminates well.

nice product

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love using this light for my dog at night. It is wonderful when we let her off leash at the dog park or even in our yard so we can easily track her. It is great at night when we go for walks and she is easily seen by traffic. Many people comment on how great a product it is. Only downside is the clasp is tough to place on and off her coat. It does come off sometimes too when she plays with other dogs.

Bright- like constant/blink fast control with difficult to use tiny button.

Painted button white so human can find it to use. Permantely attached to D-ring on collar. Very small & cheap attachment ring. Bought larger heavier steel ring used for 1 inch key rings Should be on sweivel attachment. Too expensive for this lone defect and cheap , yet most important, element of product. Yes, I am buying 1 more for added safety factor to collar & animal.

I very much liked the beacon for keeping track of my dog in low light conditions, but the device will consistently come off if my dog plays with other dogs, run through brush, or rubs againsts an object to itch him self. The product would be ideal if the clasp locked some how to prevent slipping off. I'll give it 3 stars because it's pretty expensive to keep losing!

I have been looking for a safety light for the boys for awhile. Overall I'm surprised no one has made a really rugged safety light for dogs but this comes as close as there is for now. I purchased my at REI. It has a plastic clip that will not last and it does not have a quick release ring for the collar ring. Light is bright and it has a blink, rapid blink, and a constant mode.

I love the light...but we also lost the first one and had to replace it pretty quickly. I would suggest adding a clip that quickly hooks onto the tag ring on the collar and and can be removed when you come in! This would prevent what happened to us, which was slipping off the collar! Overall great product :)

We walk city streets when the sun is down & thanks to The Beacon we feel very safe. People love the lights on the dogs & we love the fact they can see the dogs from far way, particularly the small dark dog. Thank you Ruffwear for the illumination
