Cool!

I like different settings: blinking, fast blinking, no blinking and off.
Good for walking dogs at night near street or in countryside.
Kobe did not like it on clipped onto his leather collar, and managed to roll around enough to get it off. So I used the clip option and hooked to dog tag loop.
Sally is a puppy, and it would be nice to have a smaller sized Beacon for her too.

Bright
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
I have purchased several of these lights over the past 3 or 4 years. The old design did have an issue with not being water tight. Mine would either blink and not turn off or not blink at all when it got wet. If I opened it up, took out the batteries and let it dry out it would start working again. After a few times of this happening the switch on the bottom would just stop working and I would have to purchase another light. The new design has the switch on the side and so far has not shorted out from dampness or direct contact with water. I must say I liked the lens on the old design better because it it was wider on the sides thus throwing more peripheral light . The first thing I do when I get a Beacon light is add an extra ring and a carabiner type clip for easy attachment to the collar ring. I have never lost a Beacon light attached in this manner.

This is a handy way to find your dog in the dark. I clipped mine to his track jacket. He's loosing his hearing, so he doesn't always respond when I call. With this I can see where he is. It's been rained on and rolled over in the dirt and it still works just fine.

This product is great once you chage out the clip. I bought larger than usual rings and they worked well. I have a dog rescue, live in the mountains, so I get a lot of fog and snow. The Beacon really helps me to see where the more adventurous dogs areas I have over an acre of fenced heavily treed property. The four dogs I bought these for have them on their collars aal the time, if the weather is bad I switch them on.

I haven't seen any reviews on this so maybe it is just me but the beacon patterns in which it blinks are really annoying. Instead of a steady blink on and off, it is more like a strobe light. I've seen warnings for possible seizures on lesser gadgets. I also wish the design of the lens was dome-like instead of flat so it would be more visible from the side. I love Ruffwear and have been more than happy with their products. This one could be better.

The first one I bought I clipped on her collar - it fell off and we lost it in the woods/yard. So, I thought it was such a great product I thought I would use the ring this time - which worked fine, kinda hard to get on...but, it stayed on so that's the point, right!? Well, today she was outside during Hurricane Sandy and the light came on by itself....I took her collar off and unscrewed the back and the battery was soaking wet. I would have to recommend this product with reservation...

I have to open our gym at 5:30AM..thus I walk my dogs at 4:30AM! I think its a necessity to have the Beacon on them. Funny story: I got stopped by the police who had no clue what the flashing light was who saw us a half mile away! He told me I really had him baffled as to what it was. I often see a biker out with a Beacon on as well. I am always afraid the dogs may bolt on me in the dark if approached by a stranger or another "dog on the loose", so I know not only can people see me, but I will always be able to find them in the dark with the Beacon! Seriously a great product for those who take their dogs out in the dark.

Love clipping it to dog and heading out in the dark. But then the weather turned misty and the thing frizzled out, a short I think. Had it about a month. I have 2 dogs--we walk early morning when it's dark--no water except for sprinklers (yes, suburban dogs). One dog likes to walk in the mud and sniff, which is where the Beacon got a bit dirty--but nothing submerged. After ONE MONTH, the Beacon shorted out. The other dog who stays away from the dirt? His still works, but i'm really disappointed in Ruffwear as it's a brand I trust completely. Except for the Beacon. I'm using my bike lights now--sadly, those work much better and were less expensive.

Have tried many other lights on the market and while this product is not perfect, it is the best I've found. I, too, have had problems with contact with water, even without submersion, the light won't turn off then battery dies. It helps to remove back of locket to allow innards to air dry over night, but that is a hassle. Battery life is not great even without contact with water, but, that said, it is still the best I've found and am ordering more today.

Very handy, great for city walks and hiking alike.
Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!
In my experience the beacon stays nicely on Miles' 3/4 inch nylon collar for nighttime walks in the city (so many bad drivers here!) and when hiking. It puts out a really nice strong light, and I like the different settings it has. Miles isn't much of a water dog, so I can't speak to its use in water. But it has done fine in rain so far...

I agree with the first few reviews, I have lost a couple of beacons, the ring is so flimsy, does not live up to the ruffwear reputation!!! Border collies by definition are ruff dogs. The beacon, let alone the batteries are expensive. To buy both really adds up. Please ruffwear - make a ruffer dog collar light.

I Expect more from Ruff Wear...
Would you recommend this product?.: No
First, Let me say this. At a glance, if you are not actually using the beacon, its great. However, I expect better quality and durability from RuffWear.
1. The Ring to attach the Beacon is a joke. Its not only insanely small, but obviously cheap. I expect better from Ruffwear.
2. The clip--I'd love to be able to clip this to Finn's life jacket or K-9 Overcoat, but I'm far too worried that it will never stay on. I'm constantly grabbing it after it falls off. The clip needs to have some sort of sliding mechanism to ensure that it will stay on when the dog is actually in movement! Ruff Wear designs for the active dog, and I feel like the attachment options in this beacon forgot to keep in mind that Ruff Wear dogs are Active Dogs!
3. The price--If you are going to make a cheap beacon, price it accordingly. The price of Ruff Wear's Beacon implies quality and durability that we usually expect from Ruff Wear. This is just not the case.
The beacon seems like an afterthought and not like the typical well thought-out products Ruff Wear usually sells. I hope to see improvements to match the price and reputation of other Ruff Wear products.

We bought this for our black dog so she was visible when we let her out at night to go to the bathroom, and for the night time walks. She loves to swim and has taken many swims while The Beacon was still on her collar.
Didn't cross my mind to take it off, but it filled with water and shorted out. We got all the water out and let it dry out, but it still does not work properly.
I loved it, and would recommend it to anyone, but make sure you take it off before they jump in the river!

I love using this light for my dog at night. It is wonderful when we let her off leash at the dog park or even in our yard so we can easily track her. It is great at night when we go for walks and she is easily seen by traffic. Many people comment on how great a product it is.
Only downside is the clasp is tough to place on and off her coat. It does come off sometimes too when she plays with other dogs.

I very much liked the beacon for keeping track of my dog in low light conditions, but the device will consistently come off if my dog plays with other dogs, run through brush, or rubs againsts an object to itch him self. The product would be ideal if the clasp locked some how to prevent slipping off. I'll give it 3 stars because it's pretty expensive to keep losing!

I purchased my at REI. It has a plastic clip that will not last and it does not have a quick release ring for the collar ring. Light is bright and it has a blink, rapid blink, and a constant mode.

Great

This was exactly what we needed. We have a large fenced backyard and at night sometimes it's very hard to see our border terrier . Now we can see her even if her nose takes her to the FAR end of our property!!

I love it

I love the light...but we also lost the first one and had to replace it pretty quickly. I would suggest adding a clip that quickly hooks onto the tag ring on the collar and and can be removed when you come in! This would prevent what happened to us, which was slipping off the collar! Overall great product :)

Does not stay on

I bought this to keep my dogs in sight when they play at dusk/night. Both lights fell off while they were running before I had a chance to turn the lights on - quickest waste of $34.

Awesome

Works great. We walk at night and this light is bright enough to keep us from getting ran over. We have received several good comments from neighbors. Battery last a long time. I bought 2, one for each of us!

We walk city streets when the sun is down & thanks to The Beacon we feel very safe.
People love the lights on the dogs & we love the fact they can see the dogs from far way, particularly the small dark dog.
Thank you Ruffwear for the illumination
