This leash is the best on the market for keeping dogs who like to try to take off after birds and squirrels. I feel very secure on my walks

Not Durable

Would you recommend this product?.: No

Had this leash for about 2 weeks and used it on 4 hikes, loved how versatile the leash was. Could be used on my waist, in my hand and tied to a tree. HOWEVER, while i turned around to check on my boiling water, my dog had managed to chew through half of the bottom part of the leash. NOT DURABLE OR GOOD FOR STRONG CHEWERS!!!!

I love this leash! It allows my dog to wander and sniff around while I keep my hands free in order to use my walking poles when we go hiking. It is a great leash and I have no complaints.

I am SO in love with this leash!! It makes running with my pooch SO much easier, and more fun! We are both happier :) It is a bit long for running near a busy road, but through the neighborhood and on trails it is wonderful! Would recommend for ANY runner!

Love Hate Relationship

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I love most features of this leash! The only time I hate it is when I want my dog close, which is most of the time I have him on a leash! there is so much extra leash to hold onto. But for running and for the times I let my dog wander on a leash its great.

Smart, but not good enough..

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

When I got my first baby our dog was just 1 year old and a strong boy. When you walk with a "stroller" it is good to have two hands free and that is why I bought this product. It is a very smart idea, but the winters in Norway are cold and the plastic element to lock the leash around your waist broke during the winter. Fantastic when you go out running.

I bought this to use while walking along the beach, with keeping my dog close to me and having free hands for finding shells. I have also used this for working in my garden, with having my dog near and she enjoys being with me and has a bit of room to move about..

I run with all 4 of my dogs on leash. The Roamer has been a lifesver. They can stay far einough ahead of me so I am not tripping over them, but can pull them back to a very short length when traffic is present.

I like to take my dog with me when I go birding. This leash wraps around my waist, allowing me to use both hands for my binoculars and allowing my pup some "roaming room".

Best on the market!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This leash is by far the absolute best leash for running a dog. I have used this leash for years to run my dog. I love the hands-free ability by hooking the leash around my waist. The expandability of the leash allows my dog to get a little stop & sniff in while I am trying to maintain a run. This is the only leash I . Great for walking, hiking and just hooking your dog to a tree while you work in the front yard!

My dogs are not pullers so this worked great for us. We love to take them to the beach and let them run in the water without being in danger. We do have strict leash laws here so it gives them some freedom to explore but still keeps them near.

While the concept is great and allows free range for my person when running, sometimes our rhythms cause a "bouncing" effect of the bungee portion of the leash that can get out of control and really annoying.
Still worth $24.95 - but not worth $36: the cost after S&H.
And I'd rather run free anyway.

Almost Love It

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

Great great concept, but the smaller leash feels a bit weak. If she saw a squirl or something similar, I don't feel confident that the material would hold up. I've tried a friends longer version and it feels more sturdy! Only downside, its a bit long if you just want to do runs on street your dog.

I am buying a second one now, to keep in my pack. Have had two of them for years now and they have been nothing but great to have. They give my boys space to run around me without being yanked and pulled. I would recommend these to anyone and do. There perfect for both around the neighborhood and those ruff trails in the mountains.

I can stand to use a few pounds so putting it around my waist was a little too snug especially since there will be two of them. To solve the problem until I lose the pounds, I bought two extra Hoopie Collars as extentions. lol

This leash is one of my favorite dog products that I own! I have issues with my neck and it allows me to have my arms hang freely at my side while we walk. It is great for runners too because you have full use of your arms. It stretches out a little big after a couple months, which I prefer. I recommend this to any regular dog walker/runner.

the leash is great for hiking with my dogs. i wear it around my waist keeping my hands free for taking photos etc. Also works great for taking two dogs at once. I put it around my waist with one hooked on and the other on a leash in my hand. If you hike with your dog or walk two at once you can't go wrong with the roamer leash.

My sweet bear loves this.... The leash is wonderful, the ability to bungee him back - is a bonus!! :)> I have a comfort and a confidence with this - that I don't have with the flexi-leash. It can get wet, yucky and nasty.... and it can be cleaned in a few dunks. I would really say try it... :)

Great leash for running! I listened to a review on here and bought the 8 foot leash. It is the perfect length. It keeps my dog at the perfect distance as well as giving both of us space to run. I love not having to hold on to anything anymore. I just snap it around my waist on clip it on him and we are off! A must have for active people and their dogs!

The bungee feature on this leash has made it easier to train my spastic cattledog to loose leash walking. Both of my dogs walk on gentle leaders and the bungee feature plus lightweight design decreases the number of times they step over the leash. Worth the extra money!

8 foot excellent, 6 foot not so good

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I have both the 6 and 8 foot leashes. The 8 foot is used for canicross or skijoring on a daily basis. My first 8 foot lasted about 2 1/2 years before it broke. The metal part that attaches to the collar or harness broke off and Ruffwear replaced it. The 6 foot leash is NOT durable at all. My dog is only 40 pounds and she pulled hard one time and the plastic clip broke and she got away. They replaced the leash and she immediately broke the other one. Ruffwear was not willing to do anything else for me nor make it stronger so I had to take it to a cobbler to have them put a stronger clip on it. I DO NOT recommend the 6 foot leash for anything over 10 pounds!!

Good for what it's intended for

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

The leash works great for what it's intended for which is either running or hiking with your dog; however, it does not serve as a replacement for a retractable for city-street walking (which is what I got it for). I agree with other reviewers that if it had a middle traffic handle, then it would be great for mostly any kind of walking you do with your pet while still allowing your pet some freedom to roam. I find it hard to control my dog quickly when I need to and I need to bend down to grab the traffic handle--this could be eliminated if there was a middle handle. The elestic does stretch out after some use and makes the the leash even longer (and harder to use for regular walking). Overall, it's a good product for runner and hikers. I guess we're going back to Ruff Wear's flat-out leash until we can find a suitable replacement for a retractable.

Good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

While I love this product I agree with Chris abrove. With slight improvements this leash would go from good to awesome. I've always been satisfied with RuffWear's products. With a middle handle area and metal hardwear this leash would be far superior to those retractable dog leashes.

Awesome

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

With the winter runs, this leash is awesome. Even though my dog runs right at my side, it is nice to know there is something there just in case. Having the ability to tie around the waist and still have some give room if they do take off is nice. The only recommendations I would give is; break the leash up into two parts. In the middle of the leash add another handle area, where the leash doesn't pull as it extends when they do take off. Also, yes an improvement of adding a medal hardware to the leash would be great. My dog did get a hold of the clip and it bent some, but it still does clip. I would pay extra to have the extra handle and metal hardware.

I run with my whippet everyday off road and find this leash invaluable....he has enough range of motion out in front and the bungee takes the strain if he spots a squirrel/fox/cat.
