Great leash

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We got this leash as a replacement from our previous roamer leash when the plastic buckle broke. I contacted Ruffwear just looking for a fix, and they offered a replacement - great service. The leash is great, allows both my wife and I to run with our dog without having to hold onto the leash and have awkward arm swings. The new closure is a little tough to open, but that means it won't open on accident, so that's great.

2014 Version = meh

Would you recommend this product?.: No

We have the old version, with the fastech clip that we use for one dog and have LOVED it. Super easy to put on and taken off, secure and awesome hands-free running action. Rhe only downer was that we only had one leash, but two dogs. So, I finally broke down and bought a second leash, anticipating twice the awesomeness. Sigh. The new clip is a pain to fasten and unfasten, yet surprisingly sometimes it will just fall open. Also, if you are wearing gloves, forget about fastening or unfastening this leash. I'm bummed; the previous model was fantastic!

Great!!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I have 3 labs ranging from 11 years to 8 months and I had been using retractable leashes for our walks in the evening which was chaos and a tangled mess. These leashes saved us. I hook my old girl to my waist and the two young ones I use the hand straps. No problems and we enjoy our walks now more than ever.

I like them

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I own two other Tuffwear style leashes, more of the bungee style and they are still being used. These are okay but the elasticity is a bit tight and hopefully will loosen over time. No sure I like the claw-clasp and hope they don't open unexpectedly. So far so good. Colors are Great!

Great running leash!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This is a great leash for running with my dog. I especially like the bungee at the end that prevents her from jerking the leash too hard. The clasp is also easy to use. The only thing I'd change is that I should have gotten the size L for running because once I adjust it to fit around my waist, the leash is a bit short. I also wish the leash would be able to swivel around my waist. For example, my dog runs on my left side, then moves to the right for some reason (probably sees a squirrel), the leash jerks across my waist uncomfortably.

Very good

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I run at least 7 miles every day with Rebel and the Roamer Leash is the best I have used so far. The strap began to fray slightly where it goes through the buckle soon after I began using it, but quickly reached a point of equilibrium and has not gotten any worse. The leash gets wet and dirty with every use, but cleans up easily by rinsing under a spigot. Rebel pulls hard at times during runs, especially if he sees a rabbit. The elastic is not strong enough to cushion the impact, but it does take up slack nicely if he happens to be running close to me. I am ordering a medium length Roamer Leash now, so I can keep him closer when we are running on a road with traffic.

like most of it

Would you recommend this product?.: No

So I liked the traffic handler and the roaming bungee part and the sturdy hook. But with the name "ruff" in it, thought it would have been more sturdy. I bought it in June and used on daily basis, but one time my dog got in a wading pond for maybe 3 minutes with it on and then out, it was damaged. He was running around with it on so it was wet, but then on way home, realized it was a portion where it was almost torn all the way through. So for safety reasons, I can't use it again. I typically don't pay over $30 for leashes, but it seemed nice and sturdy and liked the blue/green color. Anything that can be done would be helpful. I also think that if you plan to use it as a waist jogging leash, you would want to get a large for the length, so you have more room for them to run along side you. I would recommend in the case the dog never has a chance to get wet with leash on. Otherwise, did not feel like it lasted long enough.

Super

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We have been using this leash exclusively for about two months. I love the handle, it took a little bit to get the hang of unhooking and hooking it, but it is very secure, and I have never lost my dog to a quick pull. My only negative is that the bungee is almost completely stretched out at this point. There is still a little shock absorption, but not much.

downgrade

Would you recommend this product?.: No

The replacement of the side-release buckle with the new aluminum Talon Hook is horrible, where the fabric slides into the hook is already fraying and don't even get me started with trying to slide it into the hook "such a pain" . The Talon Clip on the new model is also different "cheaper"..For the price of the leash the older model was worth it all the way. I am very disappointed with the new model. I wish i had bought the old model again.

Well made and perfect for running!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

I was a little hesitant that my dog would pull too much and I wouldn't have good control but I was very pleasantly surprised! It's so nice to be hands free while running on sidewalks/streets/paths around town where a leash is necessary. I actually find myself pulling on my dog's neck LESS with this leash and appreciate the loop next to the clasp for times when more control is needed.

This is the best leash I have ever owned. Sugar is just 5 months old and is full of pull. This leash makes walking her a breeze. She spends most of her days running free on the farm, so taking her out on a trail it's hard for her to understand she doesn't own the world. This leash is perfect for keeping her close to me without her pulling my arm out of joint

Older version is WAY better

Would you recommend this product?.: No

I have both the new version and the old version of this leash., and I have already returned the new one. The older leash had a buckle clip for easy in and easy out. The new slider style frayed the leash material within weeks. Also, this is NOT FOR DOGS WHO LIKE TO BE AT THE END OF THE LEASH!!!! We use this leash a lot, and within 2 weeks the leash was totally stretched out with no bungie. The older style is way better with a cable of some sort encased in a cover. I give the old leash a 5, and the new leash a 1. If you are out a lot, and your dog likes to out in front, I would not suggest this leash. It is great for when your dog suddenly gets out to the end, but that is it. The old leashes had this problem solved and we have two of those that we use for everything.

My large dog is failry restrained, but we walk in hilly areas, so he has a tendency to pull. This leash eliminates any jerking. Plus, it's long enough to let him wander while short enough to pull him out of the way of cars. I can't wait to take him jogging om the beach.

The aluminum talon hooks are very durable. We had the original roamer and the hardware was plastic which broke when my dog pulled but the return with Ruff Wear was hassle free. Great Improvements

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This leash has addressed all of the problems with the earlier Roamer model. It uses the metal Talon hook to secure and adjust the handle and feels very sturdy. It's significantly lighter and the integrated Wavelength webbing looks like it will keep its elasticity a lot longer than the old bungee type material. The new colors are also fantastic, but I'd like to have a matching collar to the Roamer leash. Tip: I wanted wear this leash across my body, so I bought The Talon Belt to attach to the hande of the leash (making a big loop) without losing any additional length from the leash (this works for the new 2014 Flatout, Slackline, and Roamer leashes with the Talon Hook closure ).

Good for running, not safe in emergency

Would you recommend this product?.: No

Overall I really like this leash. The bungee material in the center is great for running with our dog and the color (purple dusk) is very pretty. The talon clip is strong but very light weight which I also like. However, the hook (on the human end) could be dangerous as it is DEFINITELY NOT quick release. I even struggle to get it unhooked when we are standing stlll. I would love if Ruffwear could redesign the hook into some form of safer mechanism - if for example you had to quickly detach from your dog. Good product, but only for VERY well trained dogs in controlled settings, otherwise you might end up getting hurt. I would recommend, but would hope for improvement.

Great starter leash to use with a puppy!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

This leash was given to me by my parents when I got my second dog this winter. It was the perfect leash to use to start training a new puppy. Instead of the leash suddenly snapping taught and harshly yanking on her neck when she got to the end of the lead, the roamer leash would provide gentle resistance and recoil as she got near the end, almost pulling her back automatically. It was like magic, self-correcting her every time she tried to venture too far away. Once she got a little bigger and used to walking on a lead, I began to take her on walks around the neighborhood with my other adult golden. Even though I tended to hold onto the least, it was so nice to be able to put the leash around my waist, so that I had a free hand, if needed -- especially useful when managing 2 dogs. It was also nice to teach her to "keeping going" and to stay with us when she'd get distracted, as it would gently pull her along. Yet it would also allow her to gain those few extra inches to chase after a leaf that blew by, etc. The only thing that I don't like about it is that when we are walking on the road, at times it almost gives the dog too much freedom. i.e. it is harder to get your dog under control suddenly, if say another dog is walking by and you don't want the two dogs to make contact, or you come to an intersection and need you dog to stop until you check to make sure that it is safe to cross the road. In those situations, I grab the leash close to the dog, but she still usually has an inch or two to play with that I can't do anything about. All in all, great leash -- highly recommended!

Overall an excellent product. Well made and does exactly what it says it does. Just very confused why it only has one metal "loop" hook instead of two. Then you have to go through the resizing process all over again...

great for hiking and running

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We replaced our old version of this leash with the new version. So far seems much stronger than the old version (seems like it will retain it's shape better). We have the large but maybe should have gone with the medium. Our dogs are tall and so are we (husband is 6'3" and I am 5'9") but I worry that I will trip over the slack when my dog is heeling. Husband doesn't have this problem, and no problem when my dog is "roaming: which is kind of the point. Great for hiking and running- the extra stretch means it is harder for your dog to pull you over if there is a sudden change in terrain or pace. Like the new buckle feature, is very easy to use and adjust.

Best hiking leash EVER!

Would you recommend this product?.: Yes!

We are avid hikers and backpackers. Jenga only uses a leash on busy trails and around The neighborhood. The waist loop is very convenient while on daily runs and feels very strong. I'm 6'3" 210lb and it fits with room to spare. The main reason for purchasing this leash is while hiking I hate getting pulled when Jenga needs to jump up or off ledges and rocks. The extra few feet of stretch this leash has allows her to safely get over obstacles without pulling me or her getting yanked mid leap. The handhold close to the collar is great for tight control or passing people on the trails. Only downfall is if your dog pulls you will not have very much control because or the stretch. Overall best leash I've ever owned.

I have the old version so that is all I can speak about. That being said...I LOVE it. I don't know why anyone would want to hold a leash in their hands after being able to have it around their waist. I use mine to run and walk my boy and it's great. The shorter loop for close control is great too. Four stars only because I have the old clasp closure and not the new hook one.
