K-9 Float Coat™ Safety
Q: What is the weight rating of the K-9 Float Coat™?
A: At this time, the Coast Guard will not approve or rate flotation devises for dogs.
Our K-9 Float Coat™ was designed to be the best life jacket for dogs on the market. Our owner, Patrick Kruse, tested the coat for 2 years with his dog, Otis, for the initial release of the product, along with other product testers in the field. They are avid kayakers and spent a lot of time on class 4-5 rivers testing the K-9 Float Coat for performance. They continue to test the float coat in the field.
Three, layered, separate panels of closed cell Volara® foam allow the K-9 Float Coat to comfortably wrap around the dog’s contour providing an ergonomic fit while allowing for increased buoyancy and safety. High quality Volara foam has a low water absorption rate unlike other foams and won’t degrade from UV exposure. The low profile assistance handle reduces the potential of becoming snagged yet remains accessible for easy assistance. Reinforced and double-stitched, the handle is centered for a balanced lift.
The foam in the K-9 Float Coat is tapered: there is less buoyancy underneath the coat where it wraps under the belly of the dog. The top of the coat has twice the thickness of the bottom. This allows the dog to float in an upright swimming position. The problem with other dog flotation on the market is the buoyancy is the same all around the coat. When the dog hits the water, it flips them over on their back. The Ruff Wear K-9 Float Coat is designed to keep your dog in a natural horizontal swimming position.
